View Full Version : Introducing myself!
Hi guys my name is Alon and im a new holden owner :bravo:
I am 18yrs old and I am from Croydon, Sydney, learning a bit about cars from various sources, mainly my boss, but I am loving every minute of it.
Here is my car.. its my second car to date, the first being a 1992 Commodore Wagon..... which I hated.... I love old cars so I decided to get something nice :)
Its a 1962 EJ Wagon, everything original, including the 149. Has a few rust spots which I am getting repaired. Drives perfect except for gear selection (3 speed manual) which is getting repaired as we speak.

Im not sure about my plans after the immediate maintainance. I might keep it completely original and go about re-chroming everything, and doing a full restoration. OR I might get a nice v8 and go about replacing the diff, tailshaft, box etc etc to get it a bit faster BUT still keep it looking nostalgic.
Any suggestions about what to do with my new baby?

The 149, must have been fitted later in life as being an early wagon it should have been a grey motor (sideplate) actually, but I wouldn't put my house on it. btw the Ej boxes are unique to that model too. prolly 2nd synchro gone in it ill bet.
You can do a lot with those ol EJ's or just leave it stock standard for reasale value. although the 149 has changed that scenario. but very:cool:

Welcome Noir.
That's a beautiful ride  bet it smells nice too. Leave it as it is!
Cheers Savvy.
Oh it does smell nice
Its my daily so I think people will be seeing alot of it.
My boss works on drag cars, so I think at some point im going to be influenced to get it going faster.
When I get the car back from the mechanics ill take a few shots of the engine bay.
Wouldnt mind going on some cruises in the near future!

if its got a 149ci in it its aftermarket one the EJ wagon had a grey motor 138ci...
heres some info for you
The EJ Holden was released in July 31st 1962 and in it's own right, sold nearly as many cars per day as the EH. The EJ was compact, yet had space for six adults, and luggage. It looked good, handled exceptionally well compared to previous models, except the brakes were overlooked in the revamping of mechanical items.
It was a car that introduced us to a new Holden. The "Premier" model which had a leather interior and metallic paint available. Other features included a Hydramatic auto transmission, a handbrake warning light, hood ornament and twin horns. The EJ retained the 138ci "Grey" motor, and the suspension set up from previous models. The panelvan and utility were released in January 1963, and their rear tail lights, which were based on the sedan, were carried through to the next model to save tooling costs. The EJ was a lower, sleeker and faster Holden than those previous, and it was good (love that panoramic rear screen). Cost of the EJ was $2102 for a Standard sedan, and a total of 154,811 units were built and sold up until August 1963

Slugg No they didn't :bounce: ( eh wagon having ej tail lights.) (I see you edited that out) ,,and he said it was a 62 ej and thats what I see in the pic.
it was only the p/van and ute in the EH that kept the EJ tail lights.
Ps I had just finished pm'ing that whole script to Noir.:)
EDIT Im glad we now agree. :lmao: Good edit Slugg.

Don't you dare mod that lovely old girl .....:(
I will buy it off you if you don't want to keep it stock .. there is so few of them around now that to mess with it would be a shame.
I havn't sat in one of them for over 25 yrs but I bet it stills smells the same as the others did way back when.
Wife just saw the pick and said she owned an EH wagon about 23 yrs ago she would love it :bounce:
I bet peeps allways want to have a good look at it .. if you mod it, it won't have the same cred.
I bet the chicks dig it :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:
Nice ride mate
cheers

Keep her rigy dig mate although I would only do some very minor mods that you cant see.
Like upgrade the brakes if they are all drums all around.
And if your going to change the geabox maybe a 5 speed Celica (RWD Celicas) gearbox might be the go and it might give it a bit more go.
But keep it looking original because you don't see many around like yours sadly.
Well guys,
I have decided to keep it as mint looking as possible, and as mechanically original as possible while still doing a few mods to make the ride more enjoyable.
On my immediate list is:
Brakes
Suspension
Redwall tires
MAYBE new box depending on how well the mechanic has fixed the selector.
Also the boot of the car is done in wood with chrome strips, so as a DIY I will propperly laminate the wood and rechrome the strips. Should look funky!

( brakes)I probably would just replace the wheel cylinders and shoes, and fit a pbr vacum powered brake booster, and perhaps a duo servo unit from a later model (not real nessescary)
The only other option you have is to fit a hd/hr ball joint disc front end under her,( more so found in some hr's) but I dont think it would be worth it really for the little gain over the drums and taking it too far from original.
ps those strips in the rear were originally just silver painted.
gearbox a 4 speed all synchro from a found mainly in ht hg & some hr& hk 186's will go with a little mod to the crossmember, if you wanted to keep it all GMH,
just a note the ej& eh Autos had a bigger hump in the floor tunnel and bolt upward crossmember, almost as if they intended to fit a 4 speed, not yours but it will go in.

woops forgot the Torana box too and an auto Ej tailshaft should be the spline you need for the 4 speed ( I think) (oldtimers setting in) lol
