I see a few nice LS1's / Holden anything about whilst sedately cruising the streets of Canberra ......(one good bloke I spoke to in Woolies carpark one day put me on to LS1 in the 1st place) ....... what I would like to know is ...which ones are members............ one day I will attend a Gentech Dyno day and meet a few people .... but in the mean time post some pics ....(I will do the same if I ever get skilled enough:) ).............. PS those stickers I read about in a couple of other threads sound like the go.......... how do we get some?????

My LS1.com.au sticker is under the bonnet - not going to help spot me :)
There was a cruise a few weeks ago and there is a Gentech day coming up soon I believe to celebrate the new workshop.

I thought a BBQ lunch at a lake or something could be an idea.

Seems that it is getting hot enough for a BBQ... just hope that the rain and wind holds off.

Hi
The Skid Pan is great fun. Shame it was double booked on last Sunday which meant Rick had to find something else for his group to do.
So we did some motokhana fun on the area next door.
http://www.circlefx.com/~mr2act/sept2006_rickbates_motorkhana/index.html
Mine is the silver CV8-Z.
Bit harder on the tyres than the skid pan but still lots of fun.

It was my first time on the skidpan, definately something I'd recommend. I drive my car so slowly when its wet, I'm worse then an L plater. But it was great to go in a controlled environment to see how easy it was to slide/spin out. I went with a bunch of mates who are into R/S libertys and GT forresters, I was going so slow compared to them.
It definately taught me that driving in the wet slow is still my best option :)
The guys name was Derrick, didn't get his last name but he was really friendly and helped me out a lot. He's got a GTR skyline which one of the guys got to take out on the pan, he was rapped.
Highly recommended to anyone wanting to have some fun and/or even to learn how easy it is to loose control in these cars. Did bugger all to my tyres too, couldn't even notice.

Can any of you blokes recommend a good local detailer?
I've tried the guys in Phillip behind the Shell servo (Advanced Automotive Detailing?) and have to say I wasn't overly impressed. They did an alright job, but if I'm paying someone to do it, I want them to be more thourough.
There were little things that annoyed me, like polish that needed to be buffed a bit, fluff all over the dash from their cloths, and the interior back didn't even look like it got done.
So, where have you tried and what did you think?

how do you organise to go out on the skid pan?
do you have to be in a car club or can you just call up and book a day to go on it with a couple of mates??

There ar a few options for the skid pan.
People like Rick bates and Derrick run sessions on a regular basis
see here
http://www.batesadvanceddriving.com
Not just skid pan but advanced/defensive driving.
They are also open to running sessions for clubs/groups in a similar way.
I am doing another day with rick on the 15th but am happy to do more :-) as it is great fun and you learn heaps

Derrick's website is www.fifthgear.com.au. I did it with the a bunch of guys from the RS liberty club. If you contact him, he'll be able to fit you in somewhere. We did it on the Saturday and he said he another spot free the next day if we wanted to have another go, I was out of money :(

There is more to validation than just coming along once and being nominated. It generally requires a few get togethers before one is nominated to be validated.
Validation is a privilege, NOT a right.

Now that I am back and contibuting to the forum both in posts and trying to organise meets I would think that I am not taking the validation as a small thing... rather I love the LS1.com.au site and would like to be able to take fuller roll in the contributions that I can make.

I have to agree - although not validated:bawl: ............ From the majority of things I have read and seen on LS1 the standards are high, things like cruise for a cure and so on.............(and I have really only sat back and read and sometimes laughed and rarely contributed - so as not to look a fool) and I dont think validation should just be a given................unfortunately due to running my business and family time which is most important, I find it difficult to go along to Dyno days and the like............. but I am going to make the effort and get known................. just turning up doesnt seem to cut it:soap:

I haven't been in a VE yet and it will be great meeting more Canberra members so am going to come out to a weekend meet eventually (under the pump atm till after Bathurst weekend).
PS - Don't forget anyone who is slightly interested in having a fun track day with your car, we are having one on October 4th at Wakefield Park along with another forum. So if you want to come out and watch or go for a spin yourself I can give you full details. Also late in the year there will be a GenTech dyno day.

We went for a drive in my VE SSV and in bluess57 VT SS (which BTW sounds pretty mad)
Would have been nice to get a few more people along... but I realise that there were few that couldnt make it.....maybe next time!!
Funny thing happened when i was waiting for the guys to turn up.... a set of copper came up to me and asked to swap cars (they had a merc van)... they got out of the van and asked to have a look around (of which i said was no problem) they were really nice and even joked about how easy it would be to loose your licence in this car!!!!!
