Does squat produce better traction at the expense of tyre wear (inside edges)? I was thinking of putting in HD rear springs because I thought it would improve traction- by stopping the squat; hence keeping the rear tyres flatter instead of them riding their inside edge?

you asked this question in another thread a few minutes ago

couldnt you wait for someone to answer it there??

afaik you kinda answered your own question

you said squat will cause inside edge tyre wear, which is what was asked in the other thread, this means less contact with the road and less traction. So squat probably doesnt help traction if its causing the camber to go out.

stiffer springs will reduce squat, but the lowering will cause camber issues which will need a camber kit to resolve or if newer than vx2 then can get away with some adjustment of the stock components

if the car squat it does help with traction as it shifts the weight to the rear wheels the camber kits are then used to dial in a 0 camber to alow the tyre to be completely on the road.

you need to transfer weight to the tyres. stopping squat prevents that on road tyres which don't have the grip to lift the front to put more weight to the rear.

stock fe2 rear end and shocks up front that allow it to lift help transfer the weight.

but then as you say you can drop too far for the old IRS rear end and loose contact patch due to the silly design of it. you need transfer weight with some travel but then stop the drop at the right point of max contact. which is where some air bags may help, or some other setup.

reduce the transfer and loose some traction

that my theory anyway. but i havn't raced for 8 years either. but i do know know that harder springs on the road on mine loose traction in a straight line

harder springs .........loose traction in a straight line

Does anyone concour that harder (rear) springs will mean LESS traction?

Surely someone has answers?
