After a 2 week trip from Brissy, I picked it up late yesterday with my 6 year old son James riding shotgun, the look on his face when I started it is priceless. Took the morning off work and give it a scrub up, as I requested it NOT to be washed, and was very happy with the car, nice and original and well looked after, and just clocked 36 000kms.

JKGMH will post up some pics tonight, thanks JK

I got it from Brissy from Darren at Wellington Point, he had it for 12 years, and some Horticulture mob had it before that.

Both my boys love my cars and have claimed a Monaro each!
Don't worry it's staying an original classic.

Any time Daz if you want to store that Walky in my workshop. You'd have to leave the keys so I could start it every few days.... :stick:

I know a guy that's looking to store a Walky replica. He has spent $100,000 on it with 403rwkw. Now that'd be fun to look after... :nyuk:

Congratulations upon purchasing a classic.
I owned a VN Group A for several years, sold it last year with 22ks on the clock. They are a MAGIC car. They haven't been very popular, some taking a while to sell, & it took me a while to sell mine. But, when I did sell it, I told the buyer he was getting a bargain, & he was.
BUT, things are now starting to change, prices are going up, because people are realizing what a great, & understated, car the VN Group A is. A mate of mine recently sold his--it went IMMEDIATELY. They only made 302 of them, they sold for just under $70k in 1991 (twice the price of a Calais!), & Holden still lost money.
A great deal of work went into the VN Group A. As far as the engine is concerned, only the starter motor & generator are the same as normal VN V8, everything else is different. It's the only Holden with modified inner wheel arches modified on line(to fit racing rubber!), as a result of which the rear seat squab rubs on the rear door trims! You can still purchase the 6 speed ZF gearbox used in the VN Group A---at a price of $16k from ZF!
As the VN is also the rarest Group A, in time I reckon it'll be the dearest. There were only 300 Phase 111s built, there is no reason why, in time, the VN Group A cannot achieve the same status.
KEEP IT ORIGINAL!!
I have a heap of info on VN Group A, so if you need any info, PM me with your ph. no. & I'll have a chat with you.
Cheers, Pickles.

I am continually thinking the exact same thing, these two cars are going to have their day very shortly.
And there is bugger all of these two models left in good nic with low k's

Yeah, it's good to get a nice car but getting one that is directly race inspired is reassuring in both enjoyment and future value, and as I've said it's staying original, apart from different rims, a big stereo fitout, oh and maybe a nice flare job....kidding

I wanted to get one of these before I got into an LS1, but what concerned me was replacing the parts which are rare and that I couldnt see myself daily driving or modding the crap out of it, its just too rare and nice a car to do that imo.

Some great comments here of a, currently, very understated, & very undervalued, classic Australian Muscle car.
But, just a couple of points (a)-Speedy Gonzales--you made the right choice in not buying a VN Group A as a daily driver--they are "pretty average" around the city I can tell you, but get them on the open road, on some good hills, curves etc, & they're just magic. (b) Burnout9--The VN Group A was only a "contract build" by HSV--all they did was fit ancilliary parts like wheels, seats, body kit etc etc. The car was actually designed & conceived as a "homologation special" (for Group A Racing), by Holden Motorsport, under the leadership of John Lindell. Mike Simcoe played a large part in styling the body.
Cheers, Pickles.

Did you have the GT Falcon, that you were selling?

The VN was for sale for 2 month's before I saw it, and I think it's still on carsales or carpoint, I rang and told him and he has asked for it to be removed but has had at least 2 calls a day for it, one guy told him it was worth 50k and he'd sold it too cheap...a mate of his found out and was spewing as he would have got it too had he known... and I was only just thinking about one and my bank manager rang me with this one.......lucky I spose.:)

Ta mate, the reason I asked about the falcon was that another West Aussie was buying this car but had to sell his GT first...and didnt.
Darren, the previous owner got heaps of calls from W.A. people, dunno why non of them bought it?

Thanks mate, the VN is getting a big once over at the moment and a nice polish too so it's ready for the cruise, and the Q coupe is happening, just getting the final fit up of body panels before painting.
