Hey Guys
I am sure this hase been posted in the past but i need to know a few things?
As I understand the VZ have 3.46.1 ratio. What has the highest anyone has gone before it gets too rediculous? I have been told 3.9 is plenty but i want some other comments from you guys. Also the SSZ come with the 6 speed?
Cheers
Mick

cant imagine you'd do alot of highway kms? hows the consumption?
what work have you done to it? is the 1-2 change at WOT bit wild?

VZ V8 manuals (except M12 gearbox) should have been factory fitted with 3.73 ratio.
I've driven a few 6 speeds with 3.9's and they're fine - still good for freeway driving.

I've got 4.10's in my 6 sp manual crewman, perfect gearing for around town and highway. Latest highway economy figures,......9.6 litres/100 kms.Bloody outstanding for a Crewie, I reckon.
Cheers

I have 3.9s in a M6, cruising is no worries at all, still pulling two fifths of f**k all revs in 6th at >100

vz ss ute - 3.46
vz ss sedan - 3.73
vz clubbie - im fairly sure these came with 3.9's but cant find the material anymore.
the ve clubbies have gone back to 3.73's
also, for 3.9's
6th gear @ 100kmh is around 1550rpm. you really dont notice the difference, beyond the car feeling lighter and a little easier to rev down low. the only change is that you do sense youre changing the gears quicker, which is only natural, but as long as youve got the power it shouldnt bother you.
dont go and buy a cheap diff centre though, so many people have asked me where to get diff gears, i say sonny does a brilliant tight and silent diff and swaps the whole unit, and they go nah, little bit too much for me, go to a place like d*** te****** or some similar place (you should work that out) and then find out theyre up for a new diff after 6 months, or is grinds or whines like a fat woman ****ing, or clunks etc. pay the extra couple of hundred and go get it done by someone who respects you and your car and is willing to to a proper job.
theres my paid ad for sonny out of the way for this month, cya :)

God now I am confused I was told that my VY SS auto had 3.07:1 that was the standard diff for them.
As I read throught all these threads I don't see that mentioned.
I am intending to change to 3.7:1 very shortly at a cost of $1,500 drive in drive out.
I know this may sould dumb to you guys but is there a tag or code that will tell me the actuall diff I have in the car?
I hope I am on the right track here with the diff change as well.
Cheers

My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong)
All VZ SS auto's have 3.07's.
VZ SS manuals have 3.73 in the 5.7's and 3.46 in the 6.0L.
Not sure about ute's though, thought it would be all the same.
Does that sound right?

Yep, 3.07 is right for a VY SS auto. Should be a tag hanging off it so you can check.
$1500 sounds a bit expensive in my (limited) experience, especially if that's a changeover cost. I'm sure there are a few threads on here where people were paying around the $1200 - $1300 mark.
From memory a complete new 3.73 LSD diff centre from Holden is only about that money or not much more and there's about an hour's labour to fit it, plus a bit to recalibrate speedo. People have got around $400 for 3.07 LSD on eBay as apparently they go well in V6's as have lower ratio for better acceleration than standard V6 and also have the LSD.

Can someone confirm that those diff ratios apply to the VZ Crewman SS as well?
Thanks.
