wow thats a fairly big cam (not massive but decent)
LSA suggests it'd be fairly well behaved with the power coming on abit lower (correct me if im wrong im no cam expert by a any means)
But definatly will liven it up n give you a massive boost in power
is this a daily driver??

Daz,
Theres plenty of comp grinds that make good power and good dailey drivers, with that cam you might as well camp out the bowser.

No my mate who owns a performance shop after a few coldies watching the GF mentioned his hot water system had sh1t itself and his mrs has always wanted a solahart so she has told him to do the work on my car to the same value $4000 so deal is as good as done.
My car is a daily driver but I only do about 250ks per week cruising the suburbs doing quote's and never see peek hour so a lumpy cam suits me to a T.

Thanks Sonny I hold what you say in very high regard (you know your sh1t) I don't want crap economy I do want a lumpyish idle with strong low to mid power top end high revs don't excite me but I like good strong mid range would the comp 224/228-112lsa still be the go this is my pick.

Daz,
I dont know wat it is ur after, but the comp 224/228 112lsa xtreme rpm cam doesnt make super numbers,it will give you anywhere from 240 to 260rkw depending on exh/intake /etc,but it makes shit loads of strong torque thru the low and mid rev ranges and delivers a nice lope with super fuel economy, will chalk up the tyres no problem at part throttles, good cam have used it many times, though like i said i dont know wat ur exactly after, but this one may be option for you :) ...

sonny what cam can you recomend that has the exact same properties as you just mentioned in regards to the 224-228 112 but just slightly larger if that makes sense ... larger in terms of making more power, but still in the low/mid range with decent economy and so on ?? or is that the only option? i know i shouldnt get caught up with rwkw but yeh lol cant help it at times

Alot of ppl get caught up in rwkw figures,i have a had some smaller cams make not more rwkw, but more torque than a larger cam,it all depends where you want ur power and wat ur gonna do with it, "Bombadear" is a perfect example,he has one of my custom cams in the 218's range and he has run a 12.2 i believe with 3.7's and a otr,to answer ur question yes i have a custom cam that will produce the goods :) of wat ur asking :yup:

That doesn't help me in Perth.
And why is that.
Im in Vic and Ive bought several itmes from Sonny. Always arrived the next day. Im sure Perth would only be a 2 days proposition.
In saying that, I've also dealt with John at SQP. No nonsense and you will get exactly what your after from him.

the comp 224/228 112lsa xtreme rpm cam.....will give you anywhere from 240 to 260rkw.....it makes shit loads of strong torque.......delivers a nice lope with super fuel economy
I think you have a fairly clear indication there Daz. I was tossing up with this one and the 222/224 I eventully chose. I chickened out a little because my car is my daily driver and I knew the 222/224 was a very good, safe bet.
The mid 230s cam will be a tad too large and you won't get into the usable rev-band unless you stay in 1st or 2nd on urban streets. It will be doughy down low and it will chew juice like no tomorrow..
Go for something a bit milder as advised and get it tuned by a master. You won't be disappointed.
Cheers and good luck with the choice,
Macca

IMHO to big Daz.
Much like the enlightened gent Macca I fitted the same 222/224 cam upon advice from Sonny and the results are
Not the biggest peak number (258kw) but 700nm of torque. :bounce:
The Idle the car has is enough to put a horn on a jellyfish and still friendly enough to drive everyday with fuel friendly manners.

What about upping to a 224/228 ? Big difference over the 222/224 ?

Depends which 224/228 ur talking bout, theres the "xtreme series" then theres the "high lift series" both have diff outcomes

I'll second what Sonny says and add a yardstick for cams:-
Try and always stay with moderate duration,
As much lift as you can, and the LSA somewhere around 112 degrees.

Sonny I was looking at the 222/224 xtreme series for my daily driver which is a VZ Ute. On an Avg day I will do 100km.
Whats the diff with the high lift series and xtreme and is the 224/228 going to be to much for a daily driver ?
Thanks in Advance

The xtreme series doesnt have as much lift as the high lift series, they are 2 totally diff cams as far as performance wise, the xtremes series is a great dailey driver, loads of torque from the basement though wont make you a dyno queen, how ever the high lift series will make good dyno numbers & good mid and high end torque though wont be as torquey as the extreme low end,its a bit of trade of,you just have to ask urself wat ur after as the high lift series will comprimise low end torque, though has a real good top end,you gotta ask ur self...how often am i revving at 4000rpm and above ? if i was to choose between the 2 a daliey driver,i would take the xtreme series hands down,it makes awsome torque a low end revs which makes it a joy to drive, hope this helps :)

Thanks Sonny for your advice :bravo:
One more thing, I think 222/224 is a HI-LIFT and the 224/230 is a xtreme or can you get 222/224 in the xtreme ???
Thanks Again

im just wondering what one could expect from a 228/230 112 cam with the following mods,
25% underdrive, otr mafless tune, pace 1 3/4 4-1. m6 ripshift with tex clutch
i would also be doing the 918 springs at the same time i put a cam in but the choice of cam is still up in the air.
and what else would i need to change: pushrods, etc?
any help appreciated.

Sonny,
I was looking at Comp Cams (http://www.compcams.com/technical/Catalogs/106-07/172-175.pdf), So you recond the XFI RPM 220/224 ? or what about the XFI RPM HI_LIFT 222/224 for a daily driver. Plus is the XFI XE-R 224/230 to much for a daily driver.
Thanks again for your help

The "XFI" & "XE-R" have really fast and agressive ramp rates and require "good" set of valve springs, the one i was refering to was the "xtreme series, they are "easy " on the valve train.

G'day there Sonny. I dunno if blokes are on the same page as you, but the current comp catalogue rates from least aggressive, to most aggressive thus:-
-XFI RPM;
-XFI RPM Hi-Lift;
-XFI X-ER.
The names seem to have changed slightly, since I purchased my 222/224. This may be causing some confusion amongst blokes reading your advice.
Cheers,
Macca

Wat you have quoted there is correct though comparing a "XFI" to A "Xtreme" or "high lift series" is very diff, check the "lift"on any of the "XFI" range,it has alot more lift and faster ramp rates, which makes it a more agressive cam,Having alot more lift and agressive ramp rates reduces the life of the valve springs and guides dramatically depending on how much lift and duration you have, hope this has cleared things up for you :)
