Just got a phone call from telstra, saying that my number had been randomly selected yada yada yada, basically, they want me to go to them from vodafone. They offered me $200 welcome credit and a new phone for nothing that is unlocked. On a $49 cap plan they offered me some samsung that really didnt interest me, but on the $79 cap plan they offered me the Nokia N70, whats peoples opinions on the Nokia N70 and the deal they are doing, im due for a new phone and almost did the deal a minute ago, i talked him into calling me in an hour so i could do some things.

Cheers People

tread carefully.

1. telstra isn't allowed to call competitors customers. it's against the marketing practices.

2. the N70 is a piece of poo. get the N73 or N80

Don't jumpin too quick. I got caught out with AAPT on the home phone and what seemed like a good deal at the time in comparison to telstra, turned out to be total bullsh%t. Read everything 6 times over, and ask yourself if you really would be better off swapping carriers.

I did think it was strange telstra ringing me, wasnt aware its against marketing practices though, cheers for the input rogue, the more i think about it, the more i think ill just put up with the piece of shit phone i have and hold out and look around and get a deal and a phone that suits me, not what they think i can afford.

I suggest you ring Vodafone and ask them what deals they are doing at the moment, mention the telstra deal.

Also check the call rates Vodafone is cheaper than Telstra.

You will get more talk time out of your vodafone for same $$$ and they also offer free 3g phones as well.

cheers

Telstra is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with.
They could offer me free phone calls for the next 5 years and I still wouldn't sign up with them.
They managed to screw my company for more than $5,000 on one occasion and it was all based upon terms and conditions that they did not make us aware of at the time.
They also managed to add somebodys mobile phone bill to our account, it stayed on our account for more than 4 months before they eventually removed it (over $1,000 worth).
We did not get reimbursed or compensated in any way despite complaining to the ombudsman and our local MP.
Our only option was to take them to court and because we would be claiming for less than $10,000 we would have to wear our own court costs, so on our solicitors advice we let it go and changed to another provider.
In case you haven't guessed, I hate telstra with a passion and try and steer evryone clear of them.
I would not believe a word they are telling you.

I changed back to Telstra a few months ago, I got sick of Three's rubbish service and Three fraudulently altered my contract after i signed it.
Also with Three it helps if u speak Hindu if u want to call them:yup:

I got the N70 on a plan rather than a cap. Worked out better once you compare actual call costs.
I have been happy with the phone so far. Best of all though it is great to be back to decent coverage, Vodafone is pretty poor coverage, and Three swap between there own and Telstra's but the transition does not work smoothly with daily issues in the service.

The only good thing they have is the coverage, i will be looking around at what i can do once i have my finances in order, cheers for your help guys

I have the N70 and am with Telstra. Very happy with the phone, the 2 Megapixel camera is pretty good quality. All the pics of my SSV in the thread link below were taken with the mobile.

There are now 3.2 Megapixel cameras on the market, it's like anything as soon as you get new technology, a month later it's old hat.

I know a few people with the $49 and $79 caps and they make the most of them and like them...

Good luck.

I ennvy you more for your car than i do your good fortune with telstra and the N70. Im really not in the position right now to be impulse signing to contracts for companies, i currently use a vodafone $49 cap, and im happy with that, if i dont have money for credit, i dont have credit, and i dont owe any companies any money. Which works well for a uni bum that consumes more than his fair share of alcohol. im trying to save for a JVC video camera and a new car, so plans probably wont work in my favour for that as money will dissapear from accounts more frequently than it does now

with vodafone you can go onto the $49 cap on contract, get $280 worth of credit, and at the moment they have a few different free phones you can get.

cant go wrong. give them a call.

You got spammed. Telstra dont ring, all their agents do though. It will be some dealer somewhere trying to sell phones. You can walk into any shop and get offered the same thing. The whole "you have been randomly selected" is BS.

I figured as much, i only considered it because my phone is on its last legs, it selects when it wants to connect to the network, takes 3 or 4 goes to send an SMS, just gets frustrating sometimes. Ihave looked at what vodafone have for their $49 cap plans, but plans arnt for me, id much rather go pre paid and have not chance of owing them more money, cos once i run out of credit, thats it, i cant make any more calls or anything. I think i will end up buying a phone outright

Cheers for your help guys

thats fair enough.

im on the 49 cap plan myself and find it pretty good. mind you i only go through 100ish a month so its plenty for me.
you can keep track of how much you've spent pretty easily anyway, can just send a message to them and it replies telling you how much credit you've used....

This is what anyone should do with any door2door or phone sales. If u really need it, then its worth shopping for.
Phone people dont get the time of day from me. Door2door, i say I'm hapy for u to leave a brochure of ur product and pricing but i do not buy or change providers at the door.
Its amazing how many of these phone or door sales people say they cant leave me or provide me with product and pricing info. Its buy now or never. Never a bigger warning sign NOT to buy.

I just had a guy in the last 5 minutes come to the door dressed in what looks like a electricity contractors uniform, complete with safety stripes and he says " your area has just qualified for discounts on your gas and electricity, could u just run and grab ur last electricity bill so i can review it..."

I say, "NO, u mean u are selling gas and electricity"

he says No "we provide change overs of providers"

I say "so ur company doesnt sell electricity????"

so it goes on,..eventually we get to the point of me proving he is trying to sell electricity and gas to me.

Point of the story, u will never get a straight story from a door2door or phone sales person and should NEVER buy from them on the spot.
Bye bye.

At work we get calls from India about 2-3 times a week re telco's etc.

I just explain to them that if you come and see me in person (appointment needed) I would be happy to listen to you.

Get two responses they either hang up or tell me they are calling from India then I hang up.

BTW never say yes over the phone as a friend was recorded saying yes (as if he approved to move to a new telco) but was acdtually answering a question and about two weeks later got a bill from a telco he had never heard of. Got sorted out but cost him a few hours of running around.
