hey guys, currently going through all my options as the engine in my VU SS looks like it needs an overhaul, I have sourced a motor for sale that looks interesting, have a quote at getting my motor sorted, seen Holden in frankston are selling new LS1s for just over 5k, just wondering if anyone know who is selling, and how much the Holden 6ltrs (L76) are going for, and if it all would be a straight bolt-up in my ute (m6), would standard computer and loom be sufficiant or would I need that to be replaced aswell?
My car runs an LS2 block and the only thing that had to be done was a bit of rewiring(the knock sensors i think???).
Considering the l76 runs an ls2 block i would think it would be the same deal
goodluck

The LS2 comes with an electronic throttle body and the LS1 throttle body is not suitable for the LS2 manifold. There are several LS2 cable throttle bodies available including FAST, Holley and Throttle Bodies Australia. I guess you could fit the LS1 throttle body and manifold but that would be a step backwards. The LS2 throttle body is 90mm so you may also need to replace LS1 air box and MAF.
The LS1 computer is suitable for the LS2. The LS2 injector wiring plugs are different to the LS1 and the knock and cam sensors have been moved to the front of the engine.
I bought my engine from Bay City Holden Spare Parts 140 Dandenong Road Frankston 3199 03 97844464 0418135211

Good luck finding a L76, they are harder to track down than a LS2.

yeah i have been searching, found Bay City have LS2s for 7.5k but im not really looking at spending that much considering i still need it in and tuned... Havent seen any L76's so maybe I'll have to concerntrate on getting another LS1, do Holden sell their new motors with warrenties?

Id expect the L76 to be more than a LS2. I was looking for the heads and intake but at over $2300 per head and $1500+ for the manifold... ill keep looking.

There's also the issue of crank reluctor wheels to be addressed.
LS1 and up to 05 LS2 = 24 tooth
Think some or all later Gen 4 will be 58 tooth.

On top of the 7.5k you need approx $600 for TB, rewiring of knock sensors, reluctor wheel, R&R engine, fluids, tune etc. All up you'd be looking at least$10k. But it's well worth it, LS2 is a much nicer engine than LS1 and makes better power and torque, and with a cam can make very good power.

well went in to Holden today, the LS1s they have are VY spec which i believe have better pistons, rings and a few things... So that will be the go for me I think... All up I can have the engine in (engine comes with water pump, injectors coilpack leads et cetera) with my bolt on stuff put on it for 6.5k or there abouts including money I already oew APS. Definately a good thing I believe as the engine also comes with 12months warrenty for some added peace of mind that I wont be going through this again soon!

I think that is the one in our classifieds section? http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=62760
Just out of interest. Would it be better buying an LS1 and with the spare money putting that towards the mods. If forced induction was on the cards, would there be a big advantage going with an LS2?

From Sonny's results (and ST) it seems the LS2 responds really well to FI (at least turbos anyway). Of course it depends on $$$ and how far you want to go. LS2, small GTS style cam, 7-8 psi = 400 rwkw with twins :woot:
