Firstly Hi to every one on the forum.

I am about to buy a Statesman International and was wondering where on the car I can find the build number?

Firstly Hi to every one on the forum.

Mate, I am guessing that you are referring to the build number as where it comes in a limited edition? i.e. "number 60 of 250"?

Internationals never had that, just their ordinary Holden build number.

FYI

After November 2002 (Holden start their new year in November)

6G1= Aust. GMH, H = WH, Y = Statesman, 54 = Sedan, F = 5.7, 3 = check no., 3 = 2003 L9 = Built in SA, 48611 = Ser no.

Before November 2002

6H8 WH Y 19 F Y L5 96778

6H8= Aust. GMH, WH = WH (duh), Y = Statesman, 19 = Sedan, F = 5.7, Y=2000, L5 = Built in SA, 96778 = Ser no.

Commodore Model Designation

Division - 1st character = 8 (standard numeral allocated to GMH Limited)

Degree of luxury - 2nd character - K = Commodore SL, L = Commodore Berlina, X = Calais

Body style code - 3rd & 4th character - Body style identification - 19 = Sedan (4 door,6window), 35 = Station wagon

Engine code - 5th character - Engine identification code - L = 3.3ltr, K = 3.3ltr EFI, T = 5.0ltr

Model year code - 6th character - Identifies model year - (This letter changes 1st September each year and relates to GM Internal operations only :-
D = 1984, E=1985, F=1986, etc

Assembly Plant code - 7th & 8th characters - Australian Assembly Plant Identification code:-
J1 thru to J9 = Melbourne, L1 thru to L9 = Adelaide

Serial (Sequence) Number - 9th to 13th character - Sequential Production Serial Number
Note : This designates the Serial Unit Number at each Vehicle Plant, starting at (00001) and continues in numerical sequence regardless of vehicle type

Series Code - 14th character - GMH Limited Model Code Designation for each Model Program
Eg, H = VH, K = VK, L = VL, etc

Therefore a VIN that reads - 8 X 19 T E L6 00025 K would mean, A GMH Limited produced vehicle, type = Calais sedan 5.0ltr, produced in 1985 at Adelaide and was the 25th vehicle produced in the VK model production.
