A mate of mine just bought an SRT8 with the 6.1 liter Hemi. I was very impressed. It had heaps of go in a straight line but it was a bit average going around corners. Very aggresive styling and the interior did not have as much room as you would think for a car of that size.Yeah it was different ,but dont worry folks, the new E series are a lot better car.

One word describes the 300C very succintly :spew:

I cannot beleive anyone finds them anything but repulsive. Only the seppos could come up with such a car. I say the factory rims look good though.

A camry looks better than the 300C, so the VE dipstick will look better too.

Holden doesn't have anything to worry about. VE Calais looks shit hot and dare I say as good as any sedan I've ever seen out of Europe, maybe the nicest. Audi A6 is closest I can think of. BMW have lost the plot and Mercs are too conservative an stodgy.

I have to disagree I really like the 300c to look at, especially the wagon .

I am not sure why but I first saw one in the states last year and am still very impressed by the styling.
I wouldn't own one though, nope never ... the bloody thing probably wouldn't fit in my garage. :)

cheers

I reckon with a nice mesh style grille the 300 looks hot.

300c is a hot car, but I HATE the interior. I couldn't bare to be in one.

My problem is I hate the VE, I think it looks shit from every angle but front on so I would seriously consider something like this:

Frankly, if I had that much money to spend and looked at something other than Holden v8, I'd probably give the new Volvo v8 (http://www.volvocars.com.au/campaigns/MY07/NewS80/Phase2Geneva/default.htm) a good look. It's a decade ahead in technology than Chrysler and can go when you give it some stick.

Clarkson's take on the 300c (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6sHH2GVfME) (not the Srt-8). Then there's the famous beach test they did :)

Amazing looking car, rubbish/cheap interior and as Jeremy said handles like a boat.

Is there anything done with the brakes/suspension on the SRT8? I remeber reading somewhere that they've done nothing to it

People keep mentioning that the SRT8 (Whilst I wouldn't purchase one, sure I'd have one though) is shit house through the corners... yet Motor in its Bang for Your Buck contest noted that SRT8 was not far off the SS however the SRT8 tyres were fried after 4 hours of testing and therefore Did Not Finish...

i like the 300c, not a real fan of the ve, wasnt one for the vy either but i bought an ss, much rather the 300c :)

not everyone buys a v8 for a 1/4 mile monster, some people just get them to cruise around, like my ol man has need for a v8, hates sixes and loves the power when overtaking trucks. It will be interesting what aftermarket stuff becomes avalable over the next few years and iff the sales of the 300c and srt8 will keep them in aus

The biggest problem, I have with the 300c is the lack of space inside. It's the same size as my statesman on the outside but inside is smaller than a commodore. Wheels summed it up best in the design awards as the "reverse Tardis"

Statements made with respect to the SRT's handling are probably correct. However, I'd say that anyone that buys a car like this would be totally aware of the car's characteristics, and would not be concerned at all about "how the car goes around corners!" --6.1 litres & 317kw says it all!--what American car of this size, & power, does go around corners! You either like this car, or you don't--I love it, particularly 6.1 litres & 317kw!!
Cheers, Pickles.
PS, 569nm torque looks pretty good too!

I love the 300C wagon, it has style and substance. They have less load lugging capability than a Commodore wagon which is the downside.

I wish there was a HSV and FPV wagons.

Love the look of the 300c, hate the interior and my blood flows holden red....

But seriously, a Volvo? 232kw from 4.4l is not that impressive, if it was 6.1 like the SRT8 it would only be a handfull of KW ahead, using the same KW/LTR.
Geez, i hope it's not a front driver :hide:
I was saying to my dad the other day (who BTW is a bloody volvo driver, in every sense of the word) that the reason that their adds say 'Volvo - For Life' is that once you have one, you a stuck with the bastard.....

Yup and I'd still choose a Volvo v8 over the 300c :) To paraphrase someone above, not everyone wants to look like a gangster, some of us appreciate the technology and overall refinement. And to answer your question, it's awd. Endulge me and click on the link :eyes:

People criticising the SRT8's handling should look at what journalists are saying about the VE now that the VE's honeymoon period is over. Once again they are saying how much the Commodore enjoys leaning on its outside front tyre (See this month's Motor BFYB).

So if your after a large car that makes a statement you can't go wrong with a 300C SRT8. Unfortunately the interior design, equipment levels and price really let it down. And this is where the VE Calais-V steps in and mops the floor. Then a GTS with track mode MRC pours salt into the wounds.

I find the 300C is more a work of art and more unique than a Gangster car. Cars are emotional purchases for some, they pick what they connect with.

i don't mind them, a nice set of 20s, perhaps even 22s? and lowered would look good. Maybe a quad exhaust out the back too.

If you read the Motor BFYB article - the Srt-8 would be quicker than an SS around a race track - it was .1 sec slower with COMPLETELY SHOT tyres!! - Go the chrysler!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd swap the clubby for one no questions asked, especially with my disliking of the VE.

When it comes down to the engines the Volvo V8 is a bit compromised in that it is a 60 degree V8 rather than a 90 degree V8. This was so that it can fit in transverse applications.

I like the Volvo V8 car. It might make a nice cruisy tow car.....

Heres my 2c...I couldn't give two f**ks whether the car can go round a corner at break neck speed, its all about crusing and the straight line, so for mine the SRT8 is a good bit of gear. Having sat in one, I dont think the interior is all that bad, however there is room for improvement.

Hopefully the next model will have the 392ci hemi. What a ball tearer that would be!!
