on the weekend we had a track day at phillip island and this is the result, another reason to keep the good car at home and have a dedicated track car :bawl:

Oh dear :bawl: :bawl: :bawl:

That's got to hurt bad. So without giving too much away, what happened ? I take it no one was physically hurt bad but that just looks awful. Good to see you're still willing to post it up here though.

I feel sick to the stomach :bawl:

can you give details on what happened?
Last acco @ a track day i heard of was caused from running semi comp fronts and stock rears... the back brakes locked up and lost tractions :1peek:

its a mates car that is now in my care until we decide what to do with her, no one hurt thank f*ck, still trying to figure what went wrong but looks like from video footage that the lhf ball joint studs sheared off after hiting a pothole near the ripple strip at about 160kph and this sent the car into a spin, trouble is that the lhf hit the concrete wall quite hard with steering on full lock and this may have sheared the rivets. this car had semi comps all round and the guy has done club track days for years

You guys should be thankful that it’s just mechanical damage. Cars can be reshelled, metal can be reworked, engines can be rebuilt.

Your friend will feel like **** now but hopefully he’ll come back better and stronger after this, especially as it seems like a mechanical error than a driver’s one.

Phillip Island seems to be my “bogey” track. I can never really enjoy myself around there (going around in road cars). Last time I was there I had a slow leak from a nail in one of my tyres. Found out at Southern Loop (I’d backed off because the handling felt a bit “strange”).

Sounds like the track may have some issues,... potholes big enough to sheer ball joints and nails on the track:confused:

I think I might've bought the nail with me. Either way I test pressures before I go out now - the damn thing still "looked" fine.

VS Clubbies can be found for well south of 10k these days. Id just get another VS and transfer the driveline and use it as a track car. Shame to see one in that condition but there is more damage there than is economical to repair.

Shame to see it in that shape, They are still a good looking Clubbie especially the white ,with its stealthy /no bs. looks.

And that was probably in good nick too, pity.

the engine/driveline is ok ive now got it in a running and drivable state, but the front rails are bent and the boot floor is kinked so its more of a case of a reshell or wreckout, this car only had 74k on the clock and was in mint condition the interior is the devonish upgrade with gts steering wheel etc

yes is a vr clubby, and it did have a 1 meeting old set of semi comp tyres all round chances are ill end up owning this one as the guy really doesnt want to see it again and has just bought a runout vz hrt limited edition
the question is how easily will the parts move if i decide to wreck out or what i can do with the parts in another shell, im thinking of a vr/s v6 ute and putting all the gear in that or reshelling and making it into a clubby again

I gave the wall a scrap at sandown in my club car last year , but i only needed to fit a RHF gaurd , light and front bar
I was using some old slicks and couldn't get them warm enough in the 3 lap sprints , so after that i bought 4 new yokohama advan A048 tyres

Sorry to see the car end up like that, but all things considered the way it came onto the front straight your mate was lucky not to have gotten hurt, the car can be fixed

Reshell it spank. I reckon the VR clubbies are nice, and it will be a shame to see one disected into a ute.

Track days can be brutal, this guy got it all wrong on the back straight sweeper at mallala with some pretty serious panel damage

I know it's a throw-away-line, but a bit hard Voods. no matter what the car, and no matter what the value, it still represents someones's pide and joy... :) and is usually representative of their level of affordability...

That's why I will only visit the drag strip. A lot less to do wrong in a straight line (at sane power levels anyway). I cannot afford to trash a nice car at the track.

Thats if you have a dragstrip :vpo: F#ckin Bob Jane

Give me a dedicated track car any day, roll cage, harness FTW. Still makes you very sad when you bend your track car though
