Well the worst kept secret of the last 6 months has finally been made official. Craig may be back in Red but still in the blue oval if that makes sense lol.

This is the biggest deal ever in V8 Supercar history and just goes to show that we are being noticed down under here by the worlds big corporations!

Bring on Team Vodafone!

http://www.v8supercar.com.au/news/latestnews/newsdisplay.asp?Ind=M&gid=17387517

"Commencing from January 2007, the Triple Eight Race Engineering prepared V8 Supercar Team will be known as TeamVodafone, under a three-year naming rights partnership deal with Vodafone Australia announced today.

John Casey, CMO Vodafone Australia recognises Triple Eight Race Engineering as the organisation that prides itself on being competitive, innovative and at the forefront of technology excellence – making it a great fit for Vodafone.

“Motor sport fans are driven by passion and Vodafone will take them closer to the action by bringing our partnership to life in new and ex citing formats,” said John.

Intimate and exclusive insights into TeamVodafone will be available next year for fans to download on Vodafone live! with 3G, including interviews from the drivers, garage cam and race previews.

“V8 Supercar racing is an iconic Australian sport and Vodafone is committed to giving our customers and staff across the country the opportunity to get up close and personal with TeamVodafone,” he said.

Throughout the racing season, Vodafone customers and staff will get the chance to be in the driver’s seat with TeamVodafone through hot laps, driver experience days, garage/ pit tours, wheel changing competitions and autograph sessions with the Team’s popular drivers Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup.

“Vodafone is entering into an exciting era in motor sport and is taking on a new global relationship with the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team also commencing in the new year,” said John.

Triple Eight Race Engineering Team Principal, Roland Dane, said the signing of Vodafone was a major coup for the Team and for the Australian motorsport as a whole.

“We are very proud to be associated with one of the world’s most prominent brands and are extremely excited to join with them on the V8 Championship circuit in 2007. We are also pleased to announce that Sony Ericsson will join TeamVodafone in 2007 as the Team’s Official Handset Partner. The pairing of Vodafone and Sony Ericsson will offer the team and its supporters access to content and technology never associated with this team.

“Vodafone’s three year commitment to Triple Eight Race Engineering indicates that they are serious about establishing a sustaining presence in V8 Supercars, and we hope to reward this by continuing to run at the front of the field.

“TeamVodafone with drivers Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup will be the cars to watch in 2007, with an exciting new look that will be unveiled early in the new year,” said Roland.

Three times V8 Supercar Champion and this year’s joint Bathurst winner, Craig Lowndes is excited about the new look team.

“To know you have the backing and support of global brands like Vodafone and Sony Ericsson is a huge compliment and we are really looking forward to delivering a Championship result in 2007,” said Lowndes.

“And the opportunities associated with 3G mobiles will allow both Jamie and myself the opportunity to broadcast race previews and post race reports via Vodafone live! with 3G.

“It’s a completely new era for Australian V8 Supercars and I can’t wait to get it all started.”"

Of course if the event is held at a track that is not in Vodafone 3G coverage, like Bathurst or Hidden Valley or Phililip Island or QLD Raceway or Wannaroo or actually just about all of them you can't get to see any of this stuff while at the track.........

I recently switched to Vodafone only to discover NO 3G IN MY FARKING AREA!! Of course I was not told that when I purchased.

20 more months and I'm back to Optus.

Back on topic, I really like the look of the cars and hope with all that cash triple 8 can kick some ass this year. Go Lowndes!

.

Actually Craig is a top bloke. I have always been a supporter of him, and i'll continue to be when he comes back to the lion, as would be reasonable to expect in a 2 make series.

The decision to appeal was made for him. It's a pity that Roland Dane doesn't have the same strength of character as "the Kid":werd: and be able to take in on the chin.

Go Lowndesy.

Good on Rick for winning last year, he was consistent and stayed up the front pretty much the whole season. But everyone expects it to be short lived. I doubt if we will see him in the top 3 this year.

Its Lowndesy's year and no one from Ford or Holden will have anything negative to say when he holds the championship trophy above his head.

Nice frog.

Yep biggest deal = the most pressure to perform.

Pressure builds diamonds or blows holes.

Last year the Kid should have wrapped up the title before the last race at PI...unfortunately he shot himself in the foot (eg Surfers).

If the Kid doesn't do the tantrums thing this year he will probably win the title as IMHO he's got the quickest car, smartest team and is a fast (if not fastest) driver.

Lol im sure they wont be too bothered with the amount of new phones signups they will get from this sponsorship with the 888 and Lowndes exposure.

Speaking of vodafone my work has just switched our 400 Australia wide company mobile phones from Telstra to Vodafone for a apparent cost saving. The cost saving is caused by not being able to make any calls due to no reception!

Cant say I agree with that. Consistant isnt good enough. Garth Tander or Lowndes deserved to win it as they WON races. Garth would have won it if Mr Walkinshaw didnt have his briliant idea for the enduros and Craig would have won it if he wasnt punted off the track. Finally this year the points are structured for Race winners and not accumulators like Rick Kelly and Russell Ingall. I want to see guys rewarded for winning these races and not sitting back in 5th.

I agree I hope it will be Lowndesie or Tanders year! They are my 2 favourite drivers! Its not about manufacturers for most people these days. Its more team vs team or driver vs driver which makes sense.

Cheers
