I have had a thought, it may have been thought of already and rejected but figured the powers that be can only say no.

This is more geared towards the entire ls1 community and not just the forum. But is it possible to have guest chat nights on the IRC channel. Someone could organize a guest speaker to go online to the chat room at a specific time where members can ask a bucket load of questions etc etc.

The topic could be anything from Legalities in the various states, How to's, Experiences from members of the motor racing community I.E Victor Bray, Dave Ferricks hell someone at some stage might even be able to get Garth Tander or someone at some stage.

For those that cannot use an IRC client, we can introduce a web based platform for them to use as well as the guest speaker either from their home or anywhere there is an internet connection.

Topics and guest don't necessarily have to be from the Automotive industry/group. Guest like reporters perhaps, Musicians etc etc.

Just a thought, and it wouldn't be too hard to implement.

There is a IRC channal and has been used for years. (see sig) We often get Tuna, Delco, Howquick and many others dropping in. If you can find some celeb's to join that would be great.

Well it wouldn't be any harder to moderate than a forum, except it's real time. Besides most deamons will have tools you can use to make sure innappropriate words are not used.

I have been doing IRC for about 10 years, I have had a deamon on my own server for about 3 years (it's shutdown now though), I have had web based clients setup to join the server and specific channels. It's not as much a logistical nightmare as you would think, just take a little time to setup. Once setup it's straight forward.

Everything can be implemented for zero cost's and can be another feature for members to use, and as I said before, find some people of interest to join the channel and give us info, answer questions.

I am more than happy to help, hell i'll even setup a deamon on my server again for the task. Just let me know. There really isn't anything to lose in my opinion.

Well I know a few people that might be of interest's. Dave Ferricks for one, he's been racing dragster's for years with Team Piranah Insurance. I am sure I could get him to logon at some time. (Although I suspect there would be alot of people known in this capacity too.

Give me stationary and emails can be sent, all they can do is say no.

Ultimately it's up to the forum owner to allow me to do so, there would also be integration needed with the webapps side of things into the forum as well if they wanted to go that way. If I have a quiet weekend I will install a deamon and configure it. Then we will be half way there if thats the direction things head.

Great idea though.

Why not use the shoutbox for this. Something useful instead of all the spam

Cheers,
