Hi,

I was after a bit of advice. I have a VT V6 and the fuel hose going into the injector rail on the passenger side has started dripping fuel.

I've called Holden spares, and have been told the hose can NOT be bought seperately. They tell me I have to buy the whole assembly including the fuel rail and that will set me back $225.00!!

You're kidding right?? Can't I just get a new hose from somewhere and clamp it on with decent hose clamps instead of the odd looking clamps that are currently used?

Please help with some better news :(

Thanks
Jules

Also, while I'm at it. Could this leak be causing the car the die under hard acceleration from standstill (ie: floor it and the engine dips and almost stalls, feather it and it moves away OK??) It even backfired through the airbox once when I was trying to diagnose by yanking on the accellerator cable in the driveway whilst in park.

225 bucks out of pocket Vs having petrol dripping into my engine bay..

I know which one I would choose.... and how quickly I would choose it....

Yes, I understand that, but given that I can do nothing until after work today I may have a choice.

Spend $225.00 at Holden parts, or possibly pick up an appropriate hose and clamps from an auto parts supplier? What I would like to know is if anyone has gone down this route, or has any suggestions other than to just cough up the dosh?

C'mon the hose isn't made of gold, surely if I know the inside diameter and spec I can fix it for much less?

You better learn to deal with it pretty quick malibu91. These use snap lock fittings, and if you try to clamp a normal hose onto this, you have a good chance of an even bigger leak and possible fire!
Time to figure out what you are doing....QUICK.

Are u sure it's the hose? My V6 just needs new seals, maybe this is the case for you too.

if you try a hose clamp make sure you get the fuel injection clamps as they are different to the normal everyday clamps.

You can either buy the whole fuel rail assembly with hoses attached from HSPO. Or you can do the repair yourself. But if your car catches fire in future because you didn't do the repair properly, your insurance may not cover you.

OK, thanks guys. I appreciate the advice.
As an update I have bought some Gates Fuel Injection 5/16 hose. I'm told this is equivalent to OEM hose. I have attached it with Repco brand hose clamps and the leak is gone. I have taken the car for a drive, and all seems well.

Now, what do you guys think?
If I change the clamps to high pressure fuel injection type, where would be the best place to source them?

Do you guys think this fix is OK. Personally after removing the old Holden clamps I would tend to think so. The old clamps did not seem very tight. I could twist the hose on the fitting without too much trouble. Nowhere near as tight as I have the new hose clamps at the moment. I used a socket to tighten them "moderately". Tighter than a screwdriver, but not so tight as to distort the hose.

At this stage the fix has cost $30.00. I'm not trying to cut corners. I just don't see that Holdens clamps and hoses are better than the hose I am using, with the possible exception of the Repco clamps. At least not $190.00 better, which at the moment I simply don't have.

bump? Anyone know where to find these clamps?
