The November issue of Wheels has the 'Billion Dollar Baby' show on DVD on the cover. It also has a few words on the new Grange, a review of the Captiva range and a comparo between a Calais V, BMW 550i and a Mercedes Benz E500. Well worth a read, but worth it just for the DVD.

Yeh i picked this up from the shops on saturday. The dont make any mention that Deborah Hutton was gonna be on the DVD!! .. cant stand that woman!

Surely ms Hawkins would have been a much better option!

well, they are the gys that have been driving all these cars for years, for a living, and they reckon it holds up rather well from the sound of it.

Cause they might be luxury cars here, but ze germans use em as taxis, cop cars etc.

Not that I beleive a bmw or merc buyer would cross shop with holden here.

Interesting comparo all the same. :bravo:

well i've been lucky enough to drive a E500 and a 530i (not a 550i but very similiar) and they really are a nice cars and leave the holden for dead. But i suppose they are another 100k...

Well worth the money just for the DVD, goes for over an hour with heaps of great time lapse video of how the VE is put together on the production line in the extras part of the DVD.

The cars they use as taxis are very spartan by comparison to the models sold here. I sat in an M-B taxi when went went to Europe. Its interior had all the class of an EA - rubber flooring & all.

But it is funny seeing taxi ranks full of the things... :yup:

Have a look at the Calais centre console/dash and the Mercedes one. They are very, very similar. There is also a little paragraph comparing the Calais to an Audi A6. Holden must be pleased to read about these comparos.

Got my copy of of Wheels in the mail, as usual. Flicked through it, as usual. Was disappointed, as usual. Farks sake, a comparison of the 'sports' versions of Mazda 6 and Camry, and they used autos. Wow - 4 cyl autos. They had a drive of the Aurion, and made it sound about as exciting as a second hand fridge. The Captiva story would have raised some interest, but soft-roaders aren't really my thing.

Perhaps I'm getting grumpy in my old age!

I'm getting sick of the car mags aswell.

"EVO" (UK) is not bad sometimes but I currently enjoy the e-zine "Winding Road" (it's quite good and FREE)

Wheels choice of "sports" Mazda6 and Camry is probably driven by the fact that somewhere around 80% of them are ordered that way by customers - most people aren't enthusiasts to the extent that buying a sports car MUST have a manual box - guess they are testing the most commonly found versions.

I wouldn't buy an auto camry/mazda 6 either (the camry is apparently a real yawn it's so slow) - come to think of it, I wouldn't buy a Camry anytime:eek:

They seemed to have damned the Aurion with faint praise, though the real performance figures appear to be 0-100 7.5secs, 15.5 sec 0-400m - it only comes as an auto!
