The Commodore’s sales total of 5455, released today in official industry figures for October, is a second consecutive record month for Holden’s large car, improving slightly on September’s result - the first full month on sale for the new VE model.

More significantly, the Commodore’s result was not far off doubling that of the Ford Falcon, which recorded 2945 sales. This is the biggest sales gap this year between the two rivals, giving Commodore a huge 53.1 per cent share of the large-car market – its best result since October 2002.

Falcon’s 27.7 market share for October still kept the Ford in second place, but the car lost another place in the best-sellers table after it was outsold not only by the Toyota Corolla (3722 sales) but also, for the first time in 2006, the four-cylinder Toyota Camry (3046).

Looks like it could be sustainable. Petrol coming down helps. Poor 380.

holden would have to be reasonalby happy with that figure. no discounts. no ve wagons and utes while fuel $$$ are still reasonably high. i hear holden are selling more of the pricier models than theywere the vz. hsv would be happy as well giving they are selling 3x more gts than r8s and thats with no discount to.

i hope ford release the falcon sooner. its sad to watch a favorite go down like that. the market has short memories of how good falcon really is.

There is nothing actually wrong with the falcon, but Ford allways seems to be playing catch up against the Holdens.

This is bad for Ford, bad for the Falcon's continued manufacture and really bad for the Aussie auto industry. The Falcon should be in the box seat for fleet and private sales, especially with Ford basically giving the Euro sport pack of six-speed auto, stability, alloys and other knick-knacks away for $250 in BFII. It appears the market is more fragile than anyone credited.

If Ford US's VP - who is in Oz checking things out this week - were to decide they could sacrifice local manufacture and lose hardly any sales by importing, everyone else is in trouble. We can't afford to lose many more local companies or there will be no Oz industry.

Just hope to God there's no more fuel price wobbles for six months or so.

Most evident with the VT V AU. one of the nicest commodores produced, VS the most ugliest/ worst falcon ever produced!! and they made 3 series of the bastards :lmao:

I heard it mentioned on the news last night that Ford Oz would be cutting thousands of jobs before Christmas. Sad news.

Excuse the stupid question but..... is the October sales of HSV (491) included in the Holden figures or are they separate.
Also , has anyone got a sales breakdown on the Holden October figures - I would like to know the Captiva sales at least for the few days they have been on sale.

Captiva - 393

Not a bad result, considering that it had only been on sale for a few weeks and that the Captiva Maxx isnt on sale either. Better than what the Adventura was doing.

Also heard that there is limited stock and that there is a bit of a waiting list... can anyone confirm.

Total - 2,993 (2,685) +11.5%

Local + imported = 8,691 (9,192) -5.5%

Ford's local models had an abysmal month. Even at 52 cars per hour Ford are building more then they are selling. If BF MkII does not reverse the trend then 2007 will be very ugly with more job redundancies. Focus is the only star for the imported models and almost outsold the Astra. Overall a poor result as the market grew 5% whereas Ford went in the opposite direction.

As to the dark side.........

Holden - Australian manufactured vehicles

Commodore - 5,455 (4,906) +11.2%
Ute/Crewman - 827 (1,543) -46.4%
Statesman/Caprice - 433 (229) +89.1%
Adventra - 145 (320) -54.7%
Monaro - 32 (350) -90.9%

Total - 6,892 (7,348) -6.2%

Holden - fully imported vehicles

Astra - 1,620 (2,867) -43.5%
Rodeo - 1,496 (1,719) -13.0%
Barina - 1,074 (821) +30.8%
Viva - 1,070 (470) +127.7%
Captiva - 393 (0) +100.0%
Vectra - 104 (286) -63.6%
Combo - 77 (112) -31.3%
Tigra - 53 (98) -45.9%
Cruze - 0 (188) -100.0%
Zafira - 0 (14) -100.0%
Jackaroo - 0 (0) N/A
Total - 5,887 (6,575) -10.5%

Local + imported = 12,779 (13,923) -8.2%

Second full month of VE sales. Easily the number one model for the month, best month for 2006 and an improvement over the corresponding month in 2005. However it appears that 7,000+ sales a month are a thing of the past. New Statesman/Caprice models still selling well which goes to show that there is a market for LWB cars if the product is right (hello Ford). For the imported models the Daewoo models are starting to make their presence felt. Captiva makes its debut. Overall a poor result as the market grew 5% whereas Holden went in the opposite direction.

66% of Ford vehicles sold in October 06 are Australian made.
54% of Holden vehicles sold in October 06 are Australian made

Thanks to Falcon Freak from Fordforums for the break down.

Sorry if this is qouted and posted wrongly...

Bill Ford actually came out to open the construction of a new development centre in Geelong and test the entire local Ford range plus some Orion mechanicals in BF mules so he hardly came here to close things down...in fact he hinted at large car RWD work for some US model....Crown Vic replacement most likely so the doom and gloom is a little premature.

p.s he's actually the Ford chairman and retiring CEO, not a VP.

Hope Ford increases sales next month..............

For Holden the most important thing is beating toyota. Hopefully they could get all their products out i.e. captiva, tosca etc.

I didn't intimate he did. I hope he is impressed - I am impressed with what Ford Oz achieves (BA/BF and Territory) with comparatively little and if they could convince the US to let them keep a little more of what they earn for R&D it would be even more.

The new car market surged again to hits highest October level since 1984, according to figures released by Land Transport New Zealand.

7791 new cars were registered for the month, 5% up on September and 3.9% ahead of October 2005’s record. Conversely, new commercial vehicle sales, at 1507, were 16% down on October last year.

Year to date, new car sales are just 1.1% behind the same ten months of 2005, but new commericial vehicle sales are running 10.3% behind.

“The new car market continues at a very similar level to last year’s record,” said Perry Kerr, CEO of the Motor Industry Association, “But it’s clear that tightening business conditions are having an effect on the sales of commercial vehicles.”

Toyota have raced ahead to take a commanding lead over Ford in year to date new vehicle sales, and Corolla was easily the top selling individual model for the month, with Commodore second.
