As title says i nedd some advice. I'm thinkin about buying a 2000 vx berlina.
I can get it for $17k , bit dear i know, but im trading in and theyre giving me $17 for my ute. Now the cars has 80000km is in nice conditoin etc etc. Prob is the engine was rebuilt at 60000km, is that good or bad thing? The car comes with 3 year warranty (certified vehicle warranty), some may say useless but at least it covers major things ie engine.
Also how good is the fuel economy really with the ls1. My 5lt now gets about 330km out of 55 litres(shit i know). Do the ls1 really use about the same as a v6?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

The LS1 isn't as bad on fuel as everyone thinks.

Mine costs $80 to fill up and I get 550km roughly to a tank which lasts me an entire week.

They're giving you $17k for VS SS ute? So pretty much it's a straight swap?

The engine should be no worries and it will possibly have been rebuilt with the newer pistons.

As for fuel consumption, generally it will use less than the Holden 5lt 304 engine, but more than a V6.

Expect around 12 - 14lt/100km if driven normally. Higher if hoofed.

Good luck with it,

Macca

should be able to get a 2000 VX berlina 5.7 for around 16k and under!
If u boot the 8 around yes it will use more fuel just depends on how u drive it! also get urself ls1 edit that will help the fuel consumtion depending once again how u drive it!

Expensive but sounds good.
I think its expensive because I picked up a 2000 VX Calais 5.7L with leather, 11 months rego for $15 800 six months ago.

Cars that may stop in front of you. J/K

The price is a little steep, but you make the decision. Make sure you dont buy the first one you see. There are plenty around as its a buyers market atm with V8's.

14k max. VX LS1 Calais with leather and 50-70kays are going for 15k. Remember its a buyers market.

Ive looked around and found at dealers(im trading remember) theyre going from 18k to 22k.
http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.dealer_results?category_id=1&selected_model=6&selected_region=0&search_type=20&make_id=10&model_id=4840&keyword=vx&state_id=2&region_id=104&search_postcode=&search_distance=25
the one im interested in is third one down.

Also gotta remeber im getting 17k for my ute where most other places are offering from 12k-14k.
Its funny, the cars at Campbelltown wakelings and they offered 17k for my ute. I looked at another car at camden wakelings (same business different location) and they only offered me 14k, go figure:confused:

Purchase price of Berlina is irrelevant….17K / 12K or 25….your simply re-writing your loan ( At a cost ) to upgrade into a much improved vehicle…a win win situation so long as your happy with finance arrangements imho....and while plently of folk are advising the VX is overpriced..rest assurred that in used car land ...17K for a VS Seriers 5 litre ute is a most generous trade in offer indeed ;) .

For those who read my other thread about buying a vx berlina today i took it for test drive and subject to finance will be buying it.:woot:
Gotta say though compared to my 5lt it was pretty slow of the mark, not that shove in the back of the seat thing. It drove smooth no engine noise or rattles that i could hear.
Has 17" factory mags plus all other berlina options. Interior is a bit of a sore point with the wife , she dont like the colour.
Anyway overall i think its a good car. I have one question though , if i do the two hole mod, catback exhaust and edit will it give me the same feeling as the 5lt?

First of congrat's on the new car, bet you will have a lot of fun in it :)

My calais has the same mod's as you have listed, but still my old vn 5lt feels stronger off the mark. But really who cares, by about 3000rpm the barge just kills the old girl. If i was towing something i would preffer the 5lt but for out right power the Ls1 is the go.

Yea, congats indeed, Berlina is a good pick!

Dont wory to much about the lift off performance, when you have a go at a 5.0lt with your new wepon, you will see that you are only at a disadvantege for the first 20-30m, after that........bye bye little 5.0.......:driving:

You have done well mate ,

keep an eye on the for sale section here ,you can pick up 2nd hand exhausts and other things needed to give the old girl a push along , I bought mine for $24k 3 yrs ago and havent looked back since.

When you have the dollars go to Marranos and have a talk to Sonny ,he will give you the best advice.

Yeah do it.
1 Newer car.
2 Better fuel consumption.
3 These thing respond better to mods.
If you want the 5.0l take off maybe consider a diff ratio swap.

The engine in my VY1 SV8 was exchanged by Holden for a rebuild-warranty engine @ 70,000km .. other than the fact that I now have a '03 plated car with an '01 cast engine block, the rebuild engine appears fine. It's up to 110,000km now and no problems; runs great, no nasty knocks when cold/hot, uses no oil etc .... so personally I'd probably say the rebuild is an asset not a liability.

Good luck with the purchase!
