Hi all,

I am looking at purchasing either a VZ SS 5.7L or a VZ SS 6.0L and cannot decide based on the following:

-I will be using for work and do roughly 50000kms a year so what fuel ecomomy can I expect from both mainly freeway use?
-What reliability can I expect?
- If I edit get a mild edit (is there an edit for the 6.0L?) what performance and ecomomy can I expect?

I will be selling the XR6T after 3 great years (157000kms) and this will be my first Holden but am shocked at how cheap the VZ's are now which is the main reason Im buying one.

Thanks for your help

Go the 6.0L, there's nor going to be much in it economy wise, probably no difference at all. Yes you can get an edit but the 6.0L will give you more bang for your buck.

One other point is that as the 6.0L came out towards the end of the VZ range, you will be getting a newer car.

If you can find one, go for the L76 6.0L Gen IV as Simon says. The only problem I see is that there will be less of them around as there weren't that many to begin with. Once edited economy will be great. Easy 10L/100 on the highway, probably less. Nothing wrong with a 5.7 and you may pick one up cheaper. Maybe also look for an SS-Z as they came with the Monaro wheels, leather, better brakes and binnacle guages. Did the 6.0L also have these? VZs are a friggen bargain!

The other thing is that, if you are going to modify, the 6.0L responds even better to bolt-ons and, in particular, is a rocket with a cam change.

Funny thing about the last of the VZ SS's, you get different stuff depending on what they had. I ordered a VZ SS 6.0L. When I picked it up it had leather, the bigger brakes and the guard vents. It didn't have the binnacle gauges, but had a pop up compartment instead. The key tags had "SS-Z" written on them though. I think I would have preferred the binnacle gauges, but they are a small price to pay for the 6.0L.

I've got a stock VZ SS 6L, economy for mostly freeway (non peak hour clogged that is...) gets me 10L/100, add a bit of city driving into the mix and my general economy is around 12-13L/100

Would expect it to be better once edited. Oh, 6spd too....
