Well I had the pleasure of being woken up at 5AM this morning by the police as my neighbour had heard something out the front and come to discover this.

As you can see, they got two of the wheels on the passanger side but my neighbour disturbed them before they could get the others and they took off when he confronted them.

There were two of them taking the wheels and a couple more in a car a little down the street. He managed to get the car registration, but they expect it to be stolen.

Try a different hosting site. All I see is little yellow frogs.

Did they damage your car (other than pinching the wheels, that is).

Do wheel lock nuts actually work or deter em. Anyone got some suggestions on what are the best brand/type.

Pickin up my new VE Calais at 4pm today and have 20" on it - now I am re-thinking the need for lock nuts.

This should be better. Will take the advise about hosting and file type, just usually reduce the image size by 50% in Photoshop and save it as .gif because it makes the file size under 1MB so I can use Imageshack.

They were just the stock standard wheels and rims. It is a government car, reduces the pain as I don't actually have to pay to replace them, but is still bloody annoying.

There is slight marks and scratches on the bottom of the car from the block etc, but not like they broke in to steal anything.

Just been talking to my neighbour.

He woke and heard something in the street, looked out to see one of the guys carrying one of my tyres along. There was one up on a nearby corner as a lookout and one taking the tyres. He called the police and then came out the front and tackled the guy when he came back past, the guy broke free and brandished a tyre iron. My neighbour tried to grab him again, but the guy turned and ran. He gave chase towards their car but then realised that the car had more people in it so stopped and get the license number. He doesn't think the car was stolen as it was a bunch of young guys in a kinda of bogan hotted up and well looked after Commodore.

He went and called the police and told them the registration. They came and searched the area and when to the house the car was registered to, but nobody was home at like 6AM. Will have to check up to see what happens. If nothing I'm thinking of getting the address from the DMV and putting a brick through their window.

Well I will be calling up today to order the anti-tamper wheels and license plate screws for my new VE Calais V which is about 10 days away from delivery.

Exactly! They should go ahead and make it into another seperate city.....surrounded by a wall. Not to sounds stuck up, but I live in one of the most expensive suburbs in the city, the place just around the corner just sold for over $3 million, however the car was registered to a dodgy poor northern suburb. They come down and drive around the nice places to find things to steal.

And I shall be buying my neighbour something nice. He must be one hell of a light sleeper as this isn't the first time he has woken up at night and stopped stuff happening.

The jack isn't ours they left it when my neighbour confronted them. It is currently the only thing holding that side of the car up as they hadn't actually put the bricks under the car properly.

Nope, hardly ever. We had some problems with people breaking into nice cars at night, which my neighbour actually stopped as well, so have always put my car inside since then. Just happened that my mother was late home and her car goes infront of mine so I left it out. She didn't bring it in and I forgot it was out and this is what happened.

We have a 6 foot fence and big solid gates that you can't see through. Lucky actually, because if they could they may have come for the much nicer cars in the driveway.

Could have been like this.

Well apparently they took prints from the car and the remaining wheels. Not sure if they did the jack, would make sense, but who knows. I think I will take it down to the station once it is no longer holding my car up.

There is nothing more violating than waking up and finding your car has been vandalised.

I hope this doesn't cound like a cop bashing exercise, but don't expect them to put in any effort to catch up with whoever it was. This just won't rate highly enough on their radar.

Two years ago I had all four wheels stolen from my WRX STi (the gold wheels), and car left on bricks on all 4 corners. A fellow STI owner I know, also in the IT trade, was helping me with a loan of four spare wheels to get me mobile, but he also put a notice on the WRX Owners Website mentioning the theft.

Two hours later and another club member (from a Subaru workshop) was in the process of placing a For Sale ad for those same wheels on the same forum.

Turns out the guy who stole them sold them to a guy with a WRX, who then sold them to the WRX workshop (all in 6 hours). The workshop called my mate (the club member) who put them in touch with me. Once we confirmed they were indeed my wheels they gave them back, no questions asked.

We then both went to cops and spent two hours giving statements, including the phone number of the guy who sold them to him. (It took a while to explain to the police how the internet works and how I could end up in touch with the recipient of the wheels without their help).

The workshop got their money back from the WRX owner but he was too scared to dob in the original thief for fear of having legs broken or suchlike.

Nothing further was done by the cops !! I wasn't out of pocket, but some lowlife scum got away with it... to no doubt do it again.

One highlight from the process - My insurance company at the time "Famous Car Insurance - based in Perth", were willing to give the workshop the money back that they paid for the stolen wheels to reward them for their honesty. As it turned out they didn't need to, but a nice gesture nevertheless.

Overall, a lot of faith restored from the actions of decent people through that process. Oh yeah, and a nice wheel brace they left behind as well....thanks !! :yahoo:

Well my new wheels were great....until I drove on them and I could feel a very bad vibration throught the drivers side of the car.

Worried about it I limped it back to the Bridgestone place that came out to fit them. Got there and told them the drivers side was wrong and the guy goes "oh, the other side. I guess they loosened the nuts on that side as well. I didn't even think of checking those."

Yeah, nice job buddy! I was going to say something when he was fixing it, but I figured he would have already done it....I would have.

Problem isn't so much the cops don't want to do anything, just that their hands become tied by people who are too afraid to stand up and do the right thing. How many people now stand back and watch shit happening, without even bothering to report it to the police? Too many decent people are worried about the repercussions of dobbing in arseholes, then sit back and don't help get these scum off of the streets.

Combine this with the legal system, which is designed to assist scum, and the lack lustre penalties that are handed out by the judicial system, and I think you get the idea.

If we all did our part, we could ensure that some of the scum spend a large portion of their "free time" in gaol.

Its about time that crooks started "falling over and hurting themselves" :nutkick: before the police arrive, might make them think about the repercussions of stealing from decent folk.

I bought a set, I cant remember the name of them at the moment, but they came in a little red plastic box. These actually have a hex dome that fits over the top of them so they look light the other chrome wheel nuts on the car. You need to take this cap off with the tool provided and then slide the key over the top, this is a three prong tool that locates into 3 holes in the nut then it comes off easy. Where the good part is is that once the cap is off the nut is perfectly round and the outer sheth free spins so you cant use a socket or vice grips or anything like that. The only way that I can think of being able to remove these without the key is to have a centre punch and put it in one of the holes and hit it simular to when you try to get out a snapped bolt.

Sorry to hear about your loss mate - vandallism and theft in any form is hard to take. Hopefully the offenders will be caught and dealt with and the world will be better for all of us.

However, I am really p*ssed off at the way you have tagged a whole suburb with this and your attitude to people that aren't as well off as you. Salisbury is one of Adelaide's biggest suburbs filled with hard working types - many of whom are factory workers for the very company that makes the great car that this forum is all about. And yes many of them don't have a lot of money but the vast majority are honest, decent battlers whose taxes just happen to pay for that classy VE Calais you hope to pick up this week from the government car pool.

No I don't live in Salisbury or anywhere near but I hate snobby prejudices based on wealth. One thing I've learned in life is never to judge character by the size of someones wallet or the size of their house. Hopefully you learn the same lesson b4 it's too late.

End Rant.

I'm sure the OP wasn't being serious :) The thiefs could have come from anywhere, but a higher chance they were from an outskirts suburb - Salisbury just being an example.

Yes most of the Salisbury people are good people. I work around there and travel through every day.

BUT it's a fact - and anyone in Adelaide will tell you - there's also a higher number of 'bogans' out Salisbury and Elizabeth way - same goes down South.
People I know down south say how many bogans are around there - their words too.
It's just statistical that the not-so-well-off live on the outskirts and there will be a higher incidence of unemployment, crime and criminals from these areas.
Same goes with hoons. Driving through everyday means I see them everyday - and there's more of em in Elizabeth than Medindie ;) And you're more likely to get your wheels stolen from there too.

fester1
12-11-2006, 08:24 PM
I think the OP was able to confirm theat the offenders were from the northern suburbs and hence his post. And yes crime rates in the north and south of Adelaide are higher than elsewhere as are unemployment rates etc. But don't forget that the City of Salisbury has a population of well over 100,000 people - comparing that to the population of Medindie which is less than 10% of that size is not really fair.

However, my problem is that rather than having a go at he damage to his ride the OP turned it into a rant about us vs them based on wealth. I just get really peeved at the chattering classes sipping skinny lattes on the Parade and moaning about the great unwashed.

I used to work in the :whip: prison system, and recall an incident where a prisoner started yelling and behaving like a right f@@king tosser (more so than usual). I went up to him and asked what the fuss was about, only to be told that some arsehole had stolen his pride and joy from his mums house, and then burnt the thing, much to our amusement. :yahoo:

he didn't appreciate us laughing at him, and took even more offence to one of the guards pointing out that he must have forgotten why he was in prison in the first place, Stealing cars.

I still get a smile on my face when I think about how he reacted, now he knows how the rest of us feel when our cars get nicked. Life has a nasty habit of sneaking up on you, and punching you in the face when you deserve it.

Very true! There was a crewman with what looked like or rtaher used to look like some speedy 17" rims on it a few doors up, had all 4 pinched one evening. And only a week or so later there was another ute further down on Harrow Rd up on jacks that had some cheap looking rims pinched also. Thus my ute never lives in the street.

Even places like Berri in the riverland have big problems with it. A mate whos a copper up there was saying its one of the big problems they have!

Dead right about little bastards vandalising stuff though. Some little prick kicked the heads off the sprinkles I had on the front lawn the other evening - was riding a push bike, heard this smart ass little kid yell out "theres water restrictions you d!ckhead." If i ever catch the little bugga at it again, he'll never ride past again. Had a similar thing happen form little kids years ago as well, threw tins of paint they'd flogged from a house two doors up that was being renovated. knew exactly who it was cause they left a pair of scissors in the tin they'd used to punch a hole in it.
