I am wanting to replace the shocks on my Monaro.
I have searched the forum and there are lots of posts about "don't buy XYZ as they are crap" etc etc..
Has anyone got any firtst hand experience with replacing their shocks on their Monaro?
I know that Monroe GT Reflex go for about $120pr Rear and abour $135ea Fronts, these appear to the the bottom of the list (at least price wise), what prices would I pay up from here?

Have used the following
i) Monroe - cheap and ride is OK.
ii) KYB - reasonable price with improved firmness in ride.
iii) Koni - expensive with ability to adjust ride, a good case of actually gettingwhat you pay for.
iv) HSV R8 - Made by Monroe with good 'factory' ride quality.
Currently have the HSV R8/GTO shocks in our CV8 and a friend has Koni's in her GTO. PM me if you want to have a ride in either.:driving: :driving:
i would recommend KYB AGX Adjustables.......they are outstanding and externally adjustable too.

Bilstein shocks and Ebaich springs are awesome but your getting what you pay for. Monroe are low end shocks for camry's and boring cars. i wouldnt use them in decent car. If your going to replace the suspension, upgrade to something better. Koni, Bilstein, Kyb adjustables would be my pick.

I am about to change my shocks and have been told that Bilstein and Ebaich are the shit and if u want the best get either of them. But you will pay a large premium.

I use Bilsteins with Eibach springs everytime I upgrade the suspension on a new car and couldn't be happier.
The Boge shocks mentioned by P.I.M.P are similar to Bilsteins in that they are a monotube design, from memory these are standard on "Jeep".
A lot pricier than the others though........

i think they set me back around $200 a corner (perhaps better with good negotiation)! Then a nominal amount of $90 or so for a good wheel alignment.....
You will be most impressed mate!

I can live with roughly $200 each. Better than what i was quoted for Bilsteins! :errr:

As the springs in your car compress over bumps, going around corners, accelerating and braking they need something to control the re-coil in the spring - if you have ever seen a car driving down the road without shocks you will understand what I mean - the car never stops bouncing.
Basically, a good set of shocks (matched to the spring rate) produce even and controlled weight transfer giving the car much greater balance.
The more balanced the car, the harder you can push.
Monotube gas shocks like Bilsteins give excellent feedback through the steering wheel and seat, it feels like you are holding both front wheels in your hands, you can tell exactly what the wheels are doing and makes the whole car much more predictable.

I've got Koni adjustables and king springs on my car and the handling and ride is sensational. Went to Deca Shepparton a few weeks back with the GT club and they set up a course on the skid pan to zig zag through. I hardened up the shocks and the car handled superbly.

I fitted Monroe GT Shocks and Struts today and I am very happy with the result.
Traction kicks in a lot less, goes around roundabouts much quicker, less road noise and a far better ride.
This is the second best $400, next to the Chipmaster Mail Order Tune, I have spent this month on the car!
