View Full Version : Twin pipes
Hi all. got a question 4 ya's.
where would i find out about what
tank i need to put in my car
to move it over to the centre of the boot
so that i can put pipes either side of the car?
i have a vx clubby.
The GTO has pipes on either side of the car.
you cant with the vx due to the tank
being moved over to the drivers side of the car.
I have seen a pic of a vx clubby with pipes either side so
u must be able to do it.
Any help would be great guys. thx.

Hey bud,
From what i was told when i enquired about doing it to my SS was that an aftermarket boot mounted tank was the only go. When i checked into prices it turned out to be quite an expensive operation. Sorry about my limited knowledge but i dropped the ball pretty quick when i saw the $$$.
Cheers

Sorry AHR8, I can't answer your question but just wanted to throw a couple of cents in.
I thought it strange when I bought my SV8 that it and SS's did not come standard with twin pipes, yet you could go buy a 6 and even 4 cylinder car fitted standard with twin pipes.
Very strange.
Oh well, thank god it still sounds like a V8 !!! :D

Yup, boot mounted like the monaros is the only way by memory.
I looked into it for my SS, not cheap either.

Bah! boot mounted tank?!?
Go to your local 4x4 store and ask about auxillery tanks. Down south, Long Range Automotive has been suggested.
Basically your after a drop tank.
Pending you're happy to relocate your spare wheel to the boot space you'll need to cut the spare wheel well out, weld up the boot floor, and get a custom tank made.
There's an article on one of the suspension sites, maybe whiteline, about a bloke who did the above process and ended up with an aluminium 104 litre tank that was lighter at full load than the stock one.
Or you could do a dodgy and pipe across from left to right after the rear muffler.
I've looked pretty extensivly into this and doing a search will probably find the threads I've written about it. At the end of the day it would probably cost more than most people are willing to pay for such a basic aesthetic improvement and you'd need to get it engineered, but it's certainly do-able.

You can run a pipe behind the fuel tank like the one on the Statesman, but there is not much length for a tip. You could only fit an oval tip, not a twin tip.
The Statesman is longer and there is more room between the bar and the tank.

WoW. sounds like more trouble than it is worth.
Thanks very much for all the input guys, appreciated.
i dont think i am going to hack into my R8 just to have twin
