Hi guys, well its probably been over a year since i was here last, after my car got nicked i ended up getting into bikes and bought meself a new R6. Been having an absolute ball on that and getting involved in the bike scene.

Though all of a sudden ive realised how much i miss cars, especially of the V8 variety and have decided to start looking into getting another one.

Being a ford fan at heart its hard to have to buy another commodore but i just cant help it with the big 6.0Ls being offered.

Now ive come to the conclusion that im going to purchase a new vz ss ute so i was just wondering if you guys could help me out with a few things.

At current im looking at getting the black model with red leather and hard cover.

1. Ill be purchasing in Melb, any ideas as to about what kind of price i should be paying on road would be appreciated. Just so ive got a general idea how much dealers will move on price...

2. Id be looking to get a different set of wheels (prob 18s) and dont mind the "L" series on the website, is the added $ fair or am i better off looking elsewhere?

3. What am i looking at having to do to in terms of lowering to get rid of the ugly gap between the guard and tyres?

4. Any advice on directions to go exhaust wise would be appreciated, mainly to get a pleasing v8 rumble more than extra performance.

5. Whats options are available to fit a decent sound system into the ute?

6. Any other minor modifications worth doing for a cleaner look or better performance?

I know thats alot of questions though ive been out of the loop awhile and therefore pretty lost. Any help on any of the se subjects would be hugely appreciated! Thanks guys

3. Lowering

You can get away with just springs, but to look decent you'll need at least super lows in the fron and super super lows in the rear.

5. Exhaust

Best LS1 i've heard was running 1 3/4" Pacemakers, not sure on cats, and the single 3.5" Sureflo system (in the loud version)

6. Performance

Excluding the exhaust, a decent over the radiator cold air intake and a good edti should liven things up a fair bit, and give you around 250+rwkw

Hi there MickNugent,

I bought my thunder earlier this year from Preston Motors in the City.

1. The dealer originally quoted me $43,500 on road with: Towbar, tint, tubliner, mats but got them down to $42,500 on road.

2. You'll find you wont pay full price they'll do a deal swapping the old wheels.

3. I put super lows all round in my ute... Original shocks, no camber kit required but depends whether you are lucky enough not to require one.

4. I got a custom cat back twin 2.5" system for $550 fitted it's got the V8 rumble and not the dredded vacuum cleaner note.

5. Haven't looked into it.. I've found the sound system to be quite resonable.

6. Make sure you get the slimlines!

Have a look at my black thunder with superlows and you'll see how it will look.
