....for the total number of Holden SS's in one place at one time in South Africa, we had our first ever Holden cruise in South Africa today and let me tell you about and please try not the get too jealous....;)

It consisted of 150km's of mixed driving and the 11 SS V8's we had created a stirr everywhere we went but that could have something to do with the fact that most had very noisy exhausts.

Well the members of this forum will be delighted to know that in the finest Australia tradition, that any place to involved a stop street or robot was autographed by a few cars, some rubber was put down on the tarmac, some lurid slides were done.

We had a route that combined a nice mountain pass with some fast country road, and no mate this was the 100km/h stuff, the speed limit is 120 km/h but well it was the middle of nowhere and it was 33 degrees outside so are party of cars cruised happily at 180 km/h+

Small towns came to a standstill kids waved, the towns were filled of revving LS1's and it was all good, very good in fact.

We stopped at a garage in one small town and I couldnt help but think of that Aus rock band "Midnight Oil" it was apt and the pictures attached I hope will convey that feeling.

So its was a good day, the cars could be enjoyed to the full and everyone had a great time and it was amazing to see so many Holdens in one place....

Pics to follow.

PS, I hope nobody is in the least bit jealous....:D

Great looking group of cars. Good to see aussie exports being admired! Are Ford still exporting Falcons to SA or is Australia the only lucky country for these?

Sorry guys, That was Afrikaans! I am living near to the guy i presume, and want to make contact. Yes, ours are called Luminas and we never had a V8 Falcon here, only the straight sixes.

Looks like the apartheid issue is slowly getting sorted out over there now as I even saw some black ones……. My apologies in advance to any member who took offence at my sense of humor.

On a serious note, is the VE available for sale over there yet. If it is could any member living in South Africa be able to get me a quote from your selling dealer on a VE SS Grille (the one with the Chev badge on it). Maybe if I can’t get one here in Australia it might be possible to buy one from over there and get it sent ‘down under’

They are great cars! Just still seem that there are still a lot of dumbs here that do not buy them. They are exceptionally well prized, and for a few bucks one can get great power.

A pity that we do not have tuners here, or very little.

Yeh it was a great drive, its rather amusing when one encounters a Falcon here, the rivalry isnt too strong here, but I remember conveniently sitting next to a 1997 Falcon XR6 in a VX SS and well it would have been rude not to blow him into the weeds....;)

Will try take better pictures next time.....about the grill will try and investigate it but our dealers here arent all that helpful(wonder where they learnt this trait...wonder if this forms part of their training at the Holden factory)

It's weird to see all those holdens badged chevy as stock . Also, I'd love to see what a "chevy" dealer over there looks like..

Looks like it was a great day, I bet fun was had by all. My friend's from South Africa and from what I hear, I wish the cops were as leniant over here , then we'd all happily cruise at 180km/h+ along country roads.

No Hammer, we have the nicest, fast, open roads to drive on. And have a climate, as I understand, that closely relates to yours.
