1) I am wondering what people out there use to clean the gunk off there mags, I have a VY SS and have the original mags on them, and am noticing some marks on them what can I use to clean them???

2)Also what are the best chamois out there?? I dont mind paying good money for quality! Can anyone tell me the brand and where to buy good quality chamois?

3) what products do people use to get tar off their cars?

All info would be very helpful

Thanks

Yeah... i have a VY SS with the stockies on also. They are a bit of a pain to clean but i just use soap and water with a spounge and then a moist cloth. It takes a bit of time, but comes out nice. :burnout:

I have always only used the genuine chamois i.e. not sure what dead animal it is from but that one.

When my current one requires replacing I think I will go for the new micro fiber types currently on the market. I have been using Bowden products e.g. polish, car wash, micro fiber window cleaner cloths, micro fiber polishing cloths etc and am yet to be let down. I am probably paying a premium for their name on the various cloths however as mentioned I have had nothing but positive experiences with their gear. I notice they now market a micro fiber chamois so that is my next one.

On my VY wheels, I used the remaining car wash after doing the rest of the car plus an old sponge and toothbrush. Seemed to do the trick for me

I find the Enka-Fill chamois to be the best out there. They are the one that comes in the orange container. Most supermarkets stock them for around $10.

The Holden mag wheel cleaner is the schizzit! About $11.00 a spray pack from Holden, spray on, leave 5 mintues and a soft brush will loosen the muck, then hose off.

If it gets the eyeshadow off an Astra's wheels (it does) nothing on a VY will phase it. Holden also used to sell a good bugspray which worked great, then stopped because it was airosol. Still waiting for the spraypack replacement.

I cant go past the Meguairs synthetic chamois. The come in a black container and only cost around 10 bucks. Iv e had a few dark cars and leaves it pretty much streak free.
Have heard also that the holden mag wheel cleaner is good.

I like the "Turtle Wax" brand of bug & tar remover. Spray on, wipe off and polish to a shine. I've had excellent results with it.

tyreBrite, or something like that, 9'tis in the shed, and i am at work) for the mags.
probably works better on Alloy than chromies, but in saying that, haven't tried it on chromies.

I bought 2 chamios, one is a natural type and cost $18 and the other is a $2 type... I think the $2 one works better:werd:

Mag cleaner: diluted truck wash as per the container gets off stubborn marks and brake dust pretty well. NB: dont use full strength - has alkaline salts in it.

Tar remover: Go with a dab of kero - dampen blobs with a cloth, leave for 30 secs to soften and they just come off with a wipe - if you rub too much small pieces of grit in the tar can leave noticeable fine scratches.

Chammy: Enka-fil - orange container, dont go hard like traditional ones when dry, and sop up water really well.

Try kero on the tar/bugs, it works great on a rag and then give it a polish.
The chamois your talking about what brand is it?, Big ones are handy you can put them in large sandwich bag and zip lock them to keep them clean and sweaty.
If you talking about the inside of the mags that are really dirty, remove them to get them clean, meguires mag wheel cleaner is strong and does the job, then when you wash your car next time, wash them with normal car wash left over in bucket and a different spong (old one is ok), if you maintain them you wont get the big build up.

I use Mothers Wheel cleaner on the VS, works a treat, just make sure that I rinse it all away properly. I have also used the Meguiars Wheel cleaner, which is non acid, but found that the Mothers did a better job. Also use a Meguiars chamois, which seems to do the job, but its getting on a bit now and is due for replacement.

The animal is actually called a chamois, it's a hairy. llama looking thing.

Mag wheel cleaner: Eagle one in orange bottle and brush from K-mart auto

Tar remover: Turps. ( rarely necessary keep the polish up to the paint)

Chamois: Plas Chamois, was made by Kanebo, now Aion

Best wheel cleaner is the remaining soapie water and an old sponge. Another good trick is to get a concentrated wash liquid like CT-18 Truckwash and dilute a bit done and scrub it onto the actual tyre wall and that way its self cleaning to a degree and only when it rains...or rather if it rains. Of course thats only useful if you're not always putting tyre shine on.

Interesting! Although poses some interesting questions as to how it got there!!
