Hi Guys,

I noticed today that my odometer globe isn't working! Is it easy to fix myself (i haven't checked the fuses, but i dont think it is this as everything else is working :werd: ) or will the cocks at holden need to stuff in & around the dash???

Thanks Justin

if its just the backlight, ie.. you can still see the odo reading, just on a dark screen, then its not too difficult. I needs to have the instrument cluster removed. start with removing the console section around the shifter to get to some screws that hold the dash facia on, then screws at the top infront of the speedo cluster, i think thats all of them, the rest just held with clips, carefully remove the facia, then unscrew the speedo cluster, remove and turn over, there are heeps of little globe holders on the back, pull out the one that lines up on the front (shine torch down hole to see if correct), check/replace the globe, available at most parts shops.

Good luck!

Can be done yourself.

Need to take dash to get to it tho.

Basically you start from the centre consol and make your way up.
It's been a while since I've done it.

~ Pull out electric window switch gear from consol.- Gently with small flat blade screwdriver lift it out. Disconnect.
~ Lift gear leaver surround out. - Held by two screws at cigarette lighter and clips.
~ Remove stereo - Four bits of coat hangar wire pushed into four holes. Disconnect.
~ Remove two screws at centre storage.
~ Drop fuse door under steering wheel two or three screws there.
~ Two screws at dash.
~ Pull Upper dash out slowly - held by clips - to a point where you can disconnect Mode, Hazzard and Headlight harness and then remove.
~ Two screws at dash. Again pull dash to a point where you can pull plug. (Mine was a bitch to pull)
~ Behind dash you will see globe(s). Using small flat head twist half turn and they pop out.
~ Holdens charged me $13 for one:cussing:

I thinks thats it. Just be gentle. If it's hard just check around for screws. I may have missed something.

For some strange reason it's working again. I guess it's playing games with me?
Will have it checked out by holden when i can.

Thanks guys

Mine does exactly the same thing, but it also happens to the tacho aswell, I usually find that a quick thump on top of the dash gets them working again.

I had a similar problem with my VX, which was caused by a broken globe filament. The light for the mode selector would switch on and off repeatedly. A good hard whack used to fix it for a while. After pulling the dash apart, I replaced the globe (which you can get from tandy's or dick smiths, just re use the green plastic sleeve that it sits in) and it worked fine.

Follow VXtreem's directions as they are pretty much right, the only thing I would add is to use a cloth to cover the screwdriver you use to remove the power window switches. This helps to prevent scratches on the surrounding plastic.

The stereo can easily be removed by cutting a coat hanger, and forming 2 "U" shaped pieces of metal, which slide into the holes on the radio itself. (it is easier to put the stereo back in if you remove the passenger side console cover, so that you can pull the wires back into position as you put the stereo back in, this also requires you to remove the glove box door, which is reasonably simple to do.)

Just don't force any parts, otherwise you may damage something. There are 5 screws on the bottom of the instrument cluster surround (3 around steering wheel, other two below stereo), 4 clips on top, and another clip to the right side of the stereo section. To get to the bottom screws, you need to drop the lower fuse box cover, and pull the steering wheel out, and lock it into its lowest position.

To remove the bulb holders, rotate them anticlockwise.
