View Full Version : Full Size "Spare" Wheel on VE

Got my new Calais V with 20" and asked for full size spare. The spare is full size alloy but original spec wheel/tyre. Asked about it but the salesman said that was the way they supplied them.
Is this right??
Not a huge issue to me - just checkin that I'm being told the truth. Maybe a 20 wouldn't fit in the wheelwell correctly but I dunno.
Do you mean that your Spare is full size (normal width) but a smaller than 20 inch diameter? or it's a full size (diameter) but not as wide as the rest?

I think he means the spare is only a 19" rather than one of the 20s
That's how it is!
do a search, plenty on the topic.
$250 gets you a full size original fit Wheel. Same OD as the 20" so OK for a short time spare.
Cheers

Thats it all I needed to hear. Its the original fit wheel and tyre which IMO is better than the space saver.
Point being though, why don't they offer the 20" full size as a spare, even for a few dollars more again if needed - I wouldn't have an issue with that - I just didn't know at time of order - it just says full size wheen and it seems I made wrong assumptionsand. With the probs I have had to date getting it here set up the way I want, I'm not going down the negotiation road again with the dealership on this one thing. It will be a true "spare" and thats all.
Sorry if I was not too clear on what the spare wheel was!!

The thing is you could have got a 5th 20 inch wheel had you asked for it, its about $700 if memory serves me correctly.
Ask for a full size spare and u will get an original alloy and tyre, not the optional ones you requested.

Well that's ruined me day eh. :cussing:
The salesman at no time even mentioned the 20" spare as an additional option to the full size wheel option - and I just assumed. Geese you live and learn (or some seem to).
Thanks for the info though!! I'll just have a couple of extra rumbos tonight and be over it and move on by tomorrow. Hope others learn by my mistake.

Im interested as to whether you guys that got the 20" options on your cars also got your standard wheels?
As i knew, you buy the car and your buy 'extra' accessories therefore you should also get you standard wheels. :hmmm:

If you negotiate a bit I see it as a pretty reasonable option for 4 x 20 inch wheels and 35 profile tyres if they are what you like and is the way you are going anyway. Holden keep the originals and the cost of the option is sort of like the difference.
Seems ok to me and I would prefer it that way than have two sets of wheels/tyres or for holden to jack up the accessory price to the full cost of 4 x 20 wheels and 4 x expensive Bridgestone 245/35/20 tyres as well - but it depends on your situation and I'm sure other opinions would differ.
Thats why I'm spittin - sounds like I could have had a spare 20" wheel and abovementioned tyre for somewhere around $700 - can't even buy the tyre for that.

Calaisrider, its not too late. See the dealer and tell him you just found out about the $700 deal, and you need his help. He will be ordering full size upgrades all the time for customers. All he has to do is vary one of the orders to a 20" spare, you pay the extra $450, then swap it with your spare when the new car arrives in PD. Easy.

It's worth a go!! As I say its not that big an issue, just down on myself - really can't believe after all my research on the VE Calais V and ordering just about every option available - I missed this bit.
Dealer and I are not on the best of terms - they stuffed me around and I refused to take the car - even had to draw up a new contract at one stage. I did well out of it all though.

The price of the accessory wheels is a change over price, so they trade in your OEM wheels for the accessory ones, unfortunatley you can't have both.

PM me if you can't and I'll see what I can do to help. I have a pretty strong relationship with my dealer.

Think you'll find the talked about $700 is above the price of the 19 inch that you have already paid extra for. The space saver steelie's are worth virtually nothing to HSVi or the dealer in trade in value.

Calaisrider, its not too late.
That's right. Just depends on your dealer I expect and as long as you haven't used the spare. My dealer told me the full size $250 extra wheel was a steel rim as that was the info they had at the time. When I spoke to him a few days ago he admitted that he was wrong and it is a mag and if I wanted to order it they would do it for me.
Just talk to you selling new car manager and see how you go.

I'll definately give em a call, I supppose on resale it would be better for anyone buying the car to know they had all wheels the same and there have been previous times when money was tight and I used the spare rather than buy a new tyre.
Given the great ride on the 20s (IMO) which I was very nervous about in the beginning, I am unlikely to go back to original spec so may as well have 5 the same.
Thanks guys - everyone is just so helpful and supportive on this forum, its absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wondering did you end up striking a deal with the dealership and getting that 20 inch spare?

No, I rang the "sales manager" at John Sivyer Holden at Moorooka where I bought the car and he said they were in short supply when I got the car hence the option was not there to go 20" spare. He said there should be no probs now and he would get back to me asap on an exchange price. As has been the :cussing: case at every step of my experience with that Sivyer mob, he never got back to me.
I'm going to try Armstrong Holden next week, they have looked after me very well to date and I'm pretty sure they will work something out.
I'll let you know the outcome:wave:

Just an update!!!
Well its all very clear now. Armstrong Holden did a lot of ringing around whilst I was there and did a search on my car.
Typical - John Sivyer stuffed up in the way they ordered my car. Aparently they placed the order with the other accessories I wanted and also the fullsize spare - all seems ok to this point. Problem arose when they did not specify 20' wheels and as such the build was stock wheels which included the spare; and on delivery to the dealership John Sivyer put 20s on it.
Now I'm in limbo land as there is no option/precedence/costing to exchange under these terms - just a glitch - but Armstrong have promised they will sort something out as a compromise. So I am still very happy with Armstrong Holden's continued commitment to client satisfaction and service to date.
Thank gawd Holden revoked Sivyers licence to operate. I'm not a happy camper with Sivyers Louise!!!

Hope you can sort all this out mate ...
Gotta hand it to HSV with the E Series, they really have got a lot of things right. My GTS has the 20" factory alloy spare with factory rubber ... standard. Gotta be happy with that.

Isn't it true that even if your got the 20" spare and original tyre, they are directional so only fit 2 of the 4 spaces. You would need a non directional tyre as the spare (mounted on the 20" rim).

The 20" Bridgestones are not directional.

Ahhh now I'm with you all - mmmm have to reconsider my thoughts to a change later to 265 Yokohamas as the ones I want "are" directional. Stock are Bridgestone 245 Potenzas
