Guys,

I have just got myself some king springs :yahoo: , have been told their called ultra ultra low (2' drop in the rear, 1.5' in the front) just wondering a few things, what are some recommendations for shocks/struts? if anyone else has springs that have lowered their car by that much PLEASE post pics so I can see what the end result could be.

THANKS :D

As per the King springs website:

Front: KHFL-47SL

Rear: KHRL-46SL

When I spoke to King springs and quoted those part numbers I was told it would drop the rear 2 inches and the front 1.5 inches, was also told they are refered to as ultra ultra low, was also told there are lower springs than that available

Thanks for the reply

There certainly is, those will sit it still torried up in the back, king are a bit stuck in the 70s when it comes to sets.

The ones you have are (i assume jokingly) referred to as ultra low.

PArt number XXXX-XXSSL would be ultra ultra low...

I believe this is what you are after:
http://www.haroc.1337thing.com/ls1/Travyss/Lowered%20picture.jpg

Front: 47sl
Rear: 46slhd

I am using Boge struts and shocks and they are great for the price ~$350 from memory.
Cheers,
Trav

Edit: These springs reduced the ride height by 45/40 mm for the front and rear respectively.

Is there any problem with insurance when you lower a car?

Most insurance companies will have a policy criteria such as:
1. Max 30 mm drop
2. Ensure that there is 100 mm clearance underneath car
3. Suspension travel is maintained to xxx of factory specs.....

etc etc

It would be prudent to tell your insurance company if you have lowered, are lowering your vehicle. Although some people push the boundaries of what is allowed;)

thats the exact height i want, ill be ordering those same springs...
can you post the full part numbers for front and rear ... how is the HD in the back?? too stiff or is that there softest option? i believe HHD is the VERY stiff track purpose spring?

I think this is a perfect ride height, not too low that I scrape everywhere but such that it still looks nice. It took me two goes to get the height right, hence I have a few spare springs in the garage as door stops. The part numbers are as follows:

Front: KHFL-47SL
Rear: KHRL- 46SLHD

The HD springs in the rear are fine, although the front springs are quite firm. Although, this is to be expected with the reduced ride height. I have not bottomed out or had any rubbing problems to date.

I believe I have some more technical engineering information, not commonly available, from Kings springs on the different part numbers on my other computer. This includes the actual stiffness of the springs (N/m) which will give you a more quantitative comparison between the various springs. I will try an post it up soon.

Cheers,
Travis

I have an email from AAMI from when I was lowering mine saying all they were concerned about was that it was still roadworthy.

I have the KHFL-47SL's on the front. The measurement from hub centre to guard is 330mm.

The rears are KHRL-46 (there's no "SL" mentioned on the receipt) but the measurement is 320mm.

Tron2004 that looks awesome, do you have much trouble with clearences etc? I have 19's I wonder i that would make much of a difference in how these springs would look on my VY SS.

Just gotta be real careful at any car park location that you haven't been before.
I always traverse over most speed humps at an angle to reduce scraping underneath.
Generally it's not too bad.
The lowest point is actually the exhaust pipe flange just behind the cats.
Sits 95mm off the road.

Hey Tron i have just got an SV8 and would like it to sit at this height but just one thing. Have you changed shocks or anything else or just the springs? also are they 17" on your car?

Thanks

If you were changing springs it would be sensible to change struts/shocks too. The factory dampers are pretty average and depending on the km's of the vehicle probably on the way out. Don't be stingy, replace them now and you will save in the long run as you won't have to pay labour twice. You can get Boge's and Monroes for around $350/400 or a bit more for KYB's.

Nope, the original shocks were kept.
Now I know that most ppl here will shake their heads in horror at that, but I have to say that I haven't had any "bouncey" probs or any other issues whatsover!!
It rides mickey mouse (albeit a tad hard).

And yep, still have the 17's.
19's will be my next move. :D

Thanks Trav & Tron both your rides look sweet as guess my next question is to get struts/shocks is that 350-400 all up with/without springs and fitted?

Cheers guys.

(weird saying thanks to Trav as thats my name is as well :))
