I got my insurance premium today, and as a few have mentioned on here, the earlier LS1's like mine are dropping in value but increasing in insurance preiums.
My latest renewal has the ever decreasing agreed value but a premium higher than last year, still no claims still rating 1. Called the AAMI b*tch. and she tells me that more people are having incidents in V8 commodores in your area so your premium has increased.:cussing:
Bloody things are getting too cheap and the ferals are buying them:hide:
So i started to shop around because i wont be giving them my renewal, and hows this;
RACV to insure my VX1 SS for a value of $21k will cost $1350
RACV to insure new VE SS for $45K will cost $835
Thank you AAMI b*tch, i now have a great agrument to convince the missus for an upgrade:lmao:

You dont mean Just Car Insurance do u, because they are just an arm of AAMI.
I already didnt like AAMI's auctioning off of car repairs so i was thinking of moving.
Will look and see if Ryno do Melbourne.

You should jump on the RACV website and do an online quote, I realise different areas make a difference to the quote but I just did an online quote for the same vehicle as yours as mine is due shortly and I came up with $920 for a VX SS, then further deductions for multi-policy and loyalty. I think I paid under $800 for mine last year with the RACV they were infact the cheapest of the main stream insurers. Maybe the person you spoke to made an error. But you are right about the bogan factor same thing happened when I bought a near new VN SS years ago, as they became cheaper and fell into the wrong hands the premiums started to climb.

The quote i posted was via online quoting. I do use the car for business which adds a little bit, but my AAMI quote which is increasing was with the business use and was still $200 cheaper than RACV.

You should try owning a VT Brian, Bogans, P-Platers and just about everybody bloody else can afford them now. :sux:
How many accidents have I had in mine... ZERO ! Yet I pay the penalty of all those who have. (SHIT !)

You should try insuring my VE GTS. I organised my Insurance prior to me picking up my car. I have a rating one, 65% no claim bonus (standard for NRMA where others offer 85%), Green slip through NRMA, I am 37 no accidents no insurance claims, however my Girlfriend is 23 and she occasionally drives the car, got a quote from AAMI for $2600, then I phoned every other Insurance company, then I decided to go to NRMA to find out the price and low and behold they will insure my GTS agreed value of $85,000 for $1800 per year. NRMA I thought would be the most expensive but low and behold they were the cheapest of all.,

You should look at maybe not putting her down as a reguler driver, then touch wood,if she has an accident you pay a higher excess for not being a nominated driver. You have to do the sums ,but sometimes it pays. The higher excess may be $500 or $1000 extra, but if you do not have a claim in a few years, you will be ahead........Cheers John

I have found NRMA the cheapest of the 'big name' companies for the last 5 odd years and in most cases I am talking a minimum of hundreds of dollars cheaper. I go through the comparison process each year when my renewal arrives.
My new VE SS is cheaper than the 3 year old VY it replaced and I had it from new as well.
One good feature I like is new for old replacement if the VE is written off in the first 2 years so there is no need to go anything other than market value (which is normally cheaper than agreed value) during that period.
Just make sure all the extras like tint etc are nominated so in the worst case scenario that you total the car you get a new one with identical extras fitted

I often wonder what they would try to palm me off with if my VZSS was written off. eg. do I get a VESS or VESS-V?

Dont know your ages, but at the ripe old age of 32, my new VE SSV is only going to cost me $640 per year for insurance (my VX SS cost about $770), agreed at a value of $56000. The policy is also open so that anyone, young or old can drive the beasty with confidence. Am going through CGU for what its worth, may be worth a look, as it was one of the cheapest that i could find.

Ouch thats a bit steep. My ute (VU SS 50) is costing me about $715 ish a year from memory for full comprehensive....and I'm only 22. Originaly bought the ute when I was 20 and it was perhaps $50 dearer then as opposed to now. Go figure hey! It's about on par with the amount I was paying for a VS V6 ute (although was only 16.5 when I originally bought that and it say rnd $700 continuelly til I bought the SS).

When I had my Monaro, and was a member of the Monaro Club of QLD I got a discount for being a member of a car club through Vigil. It was only costing me around $400 / year, at and agreed value of $19k with 24hr roadside assistance. Ontop of that, if the vehicle was written off, I retained the wreck.
Do ya reckon they would give a discount for being a LS1 member?
That however was about 6 years ago, but the value was about the same, and you could steal it with a bobby pin.
The VT cost about $400, and they value it at $13k, with RACQ

Yeah I had thought about leaving her off the insurance, but i figured better to be safe than sorry esspecially with the GTS. Some insurance companies just paid me off because the car was only just out, not on the system and cost too much and would not insure it. Rather pay the extra and be covered by insurance.

Bloody hell, how in blazes do you lot get your insurance so friggen cheap.
The wagon insured thru NRMA - 65% I am 35, the wife 36, market value (which is what about 14,500 i think atm), and it costs me approx $840 a year. No accidents since i was on my p's, last speeding fine December 2004, wife never had an accident and the only speeding fine she ever received was one of mine a about 9-10 years ago (camera, lisence cancelled for not paying parking fine x3).

My Caprice costs me 2100 a year through NRMA, cheapest by a long shot being a 19yr old p-plater (not one of the bogans who hoons everywhere in my super duper LS1). I was hoping for a bit cheaper as it is a caprice and not an SS or something but nope, even the companies that are meant to be better for younger drivers were more expensive. As soon as i said P-plate and V8 in the same sentence most told me to jam it.

we live in sydney,it's going to be expensive for us until you reach 35 to 40 and then it starts to come down.what a lot are'nt saying is how much to claim on there insurance at fault. my son is 19 driving a v6 vx berlina ,$1200 a year and because he had a suspension on his licence, to claim an at fault accident it's nearly $2500.i pay $800 for a vy lumina v6 65% plus gold with gio ,insured for $19500 and thats market not agreed.to claim an at fault it only costs me $200 and i can have two at faults a year without losing any no claim.
My GTS (VTII) is insured through Shannons. They know EVERYTHING that it has had done to it, and it is insured for $55,000 (agreed value).
That costs me around $1400. Which I think is pretty damn good.

Thanks for the advice, I have got a quote from them and it is only $735 compared to AAMI wanting nearly $1200.
Reading thru the policy it looks better as well, especially like to see "choice of repairer" which AAMI do not give you.

$1400 for an SS isn't too bad for 20y/o, although my 21y/o partner has her suby insured for 26k through AAMI for just over $800 /year, took us ages to get that price though.

Im 25, got VU SS insured through shannons, full comp, they know all mods, (wheels, brakes, susp, exhst, body etc) harrop blower goes on 11/12/06 premium only goes from $980 to $1180 insured for $47,000. Im pretty happy with that.
Although apparently the V8 utes are high risk, compared to my old mans Coupe4 with a couple of mods only pays $600.00 insured for $75,000 through shannons also.

Think you will find the main difference is where the car is garaged i.e. post code. Try playing around with the on line quotes by putting in all your details as normal and my Brisbane post code of 4116 and see what difference the new quote is. That way you will know for certain that it is only where you live causing the high price. Oh, the suburb is Stretton 4116
Also some insurance companies don't like a particular type of car i.e. their statistics’ show a high claims rate. In that case try looking at other companies. I have experienced this with my wife’s Hyundai Excel shopping trolley.

Hi,
Forget RACV I was with them for my VX SS series 2, was $1293 or so Rating 1. I am now with CGU and paying about $900 which was one of the cheapest I could find, pretty good, no extra for pay by the month, may look at Ryno insurance as mentioned previously in this post. I agree what others are saying value of car insurance wise is down but premiums are up

That seems a little excessive, when I first looked at insurance I spoke to them and it was going to be rnd $1700 (April last year when I was just pushing 21). But then I spose location would seem to pose as a big issue over east in regards to price. Never noticed that here causing any issues.

$1090 through RACV for me - 24 rating 1, lost license twice, last speeding fine was in april '05 but no claims.. they know about all my mods (suspension, cat back and CAI). Had my VS clubbie insured for them as well ($1190, just cars wanted $4k)
i'll look at other companies once i'm 25 and am contemplating further mods (damn wallet!1!!!)

Yeh I don't fully understand it, our trade in vehicle was an approaching 10 yr old 4 cylinder Camry. When we picked up the new VE Calais V and checked the insurance cost (RACQ) I remember getting a nice shock as it was exactly $8 (thats right eight dollars) more to insure the Calais V with 6 litre and bunch of accessories than it was for the ageing Camry - approx $840. I was expecting around 1200+ needless to say I was very happy!!
Maybe its the type of drivers who predominantly own Calais (oldies)
