Hey guy's at the end of last week i put my clubsport in to a dealer for a couple of warranty issues. One been quite a noticable thump from the rear end after the clutch has started to take up.I had the same prob with my old vu ss abnormal wear in drive shafts wich were replaced by another dealer no question's asked.
Now i pick the clubsport up and sure enough they tell me the left side drive shaft has abnormal wear. And they were talking to holden about it and they would call me.
Before i put the car in i reset the trip meter,so i see they have done just under 2 ks.I also noted the fuel usage wich was 11.5ltr/100 but now it is reading in the 40s
Have they flogged it or is it somthing else?Over a couple of days it settled back to mid 11s any thoughts.

when you are just idling the car around the place, the fuel economy is horrible. when i reset mine after coming out of the servo, it reads in the 30's, but after a few kays, drops down to a more accurate reading.

I have never seen such a big variation like that before the highest i have ever seen is high 13s.

My vote is that some apprentice has flogged the hell outta it :( I've not been able to get mine up that high when I try!!!

Thats why i dont let anyone drive my clubbie for not even the service manger.
I agree with Bigalroks.... You do 100klm's at 5k's per hour and see if it takes 40litres or not... I think it might

I think you'd be jumping the gun a little by assuming someone has flogged your car. Sometimes if I've just started up and I've reset the trip meter fuel counter thing mine has read anywhere from 40L/100km - 99L/100km.
They might have even sat the car still while it was idling for five minutes having reset the computer. That would send the L/100km pretty high.

I wouldn't worry if it settled fairly quickly.
Yesterday, after filling my tank, and idling out of the servo, a quick glance at the meter showed 96l/100km! Is this a record? ;-)
I have never seen it that high, and it changed to 40l/100km within a few more seconds, and back to normal within a few km's.
Cheers,
M.
i have been in this situation twice. Once with Holden dealer once with other mechanic, on both occasions i was going to spit the dummy badly thinking they had thrashed my car but i kept a level head and thought about it... with the other mechanic i know the guy for over 10 years and he is sensible az, family man who owns a successful and well reputable business in the Illawarra, i asked him straight out if he thrashed my car he said no, he told me everywhere he road tested the car, i beleived him and have since replicated the high fuel consumption upon reseting the trip comp, leaving on idle for periods, revving to clean throttle body and he road tested in "hilly" area... i wouldnt worry 2 much... take it 2 some1 u can trust and u can be at ease.........

don't stress mate. Also, if they disconnected the battery or whatever reset things it'll show a high fuel usage when they drive it around the shop..
on the otherhand, after i finished my mods on my car, i had to drop it off to ford for an indicator switch warranty job... got the car back with 30kms extra on the odo and fuel consumption at 38L :cussing:
30kms to check an indicator switch?? the car has power steering!! some "friendly" customer service woman tried to tell me it was a standard road test.... yeah right. 30kms standard road test to check that the indicator worked? more like some punk taking a 300rwkw XR6T for a hoon... oh, i also noticed my tyres were chopped up too... needless to say, from then on, whenever i drop my car in for warranty work, i tell them that no one is to take my car for a drive... all test drives will be performed by me, or by a mechanic in my presence. it's just not fair that they take our pride and joys and flog the sh*t out of them.

I'm sure it's been answered before, but is your car still covered by insurance if any dealership staff takes your pride & joy for a "test drive"?
Or does the dealership have it's own coverage when being "test driven"?

not sure mate.. i'd hope that they'd have insurance to cover anything. Then again... i'm sure that my car not being standard, they'd do everything possible to get out of it..

I'm not to stressed about it but it did make me wonder.I don't normally take my car to holden but it was a warranty issue.
If they decide to fix the prob there won't be any road test's unless i'm in it.

My policy (AAMI) says nobody under 30 allowed to drive it (which I love as it means my daughters and their boyfriends don't even bother to ask to drive it!) but does say that doesn't apply for servicing etc, so I assume your own insurance covers it anyway. Hopefully they have insurance to cover that scenario so you wouldn't have to claim on your own insurance and pay the excess.

Each dealership has their own insurance, the worker who has an accident just has to simply pay an excess and it gets all sorted from there :)
