Hi
Lets start an expose a shonk thread so that none of us get bitten by the same shark. Ill kick off.
Last Saturday, I purchased a set of Genuine CV8-R wheels from Payless tyres in Chullora. I paid $1590 for the set of wheels with new tyres and had a wheel alignment done. When doing the wheel alignment they said, it may pull a little to the left, it will take me hours to fix it but it’s due to you needing a camber kit??? It didn’t seem to pull anywhere with the standard wheels?
When I got home, I noticed the wheels looked a little funny. As you may all know, the CV8-R wheels have a polished machined face. But the centre cap was silver. It looked very odd. (I have photos) I logged onto the net later in the evening and noticed that the original wheels centre caps were in fact chrome. I confirmed it on many different Monaro CV8-R’s and even on the Payless wheels website.
I contacted Payless wheels and tyres on the Sunday morning, they ummed and ahhhed a while and then said, maybe we made a mistake, bring the car in and we will look at it. Mistake my arse, how can they honestly say they didn’t notice. The silver centre caps must be a cheaper alternative so they tried to put one over me. They advertised the wheels as genuine items from Holden.
I live about 20km away, I said who is gonna fix me up for my time and petrol, they just said, they can’t help me. I then suggested they deliver the proper caps to me or post them to me and I will return the standard caps. They turned around and said, no post me yours and upon receipt they will post out the chrome versions. I responded, so in the interim I drive around on new wheels with no caps? It’s your mistake guys, you can wear the additional cost faced. They refused to post me the caps and said it would only be resolved if I returned to their shop.
So I drove back there on my expense later in the day, when I got there they didn’t want to talk to me, no apologies, no nothing. One of the young guys came over and he said he would swap them, but he tried to say most people prefer the silver caps. What a load of crap. Then he grabbed a knife and attempted to remove my centre caps. I tapped him on the shoulder and said you scratch the wheels you can put a new set on, take the wheels off properly and fit them with the new caps.
Then when he finished the owner was nowhere to be seen to discuss the problem, I just left but should have thumped the lot of them. Shonky people, never ever buy from them.

Slander, libel, defamation .... tread carefully :)
Bugger of a story. Then again, hate to say it, but often in life you get what you pay for .... or pay less ;)
Unfortunately that story sounds all too familiar with many instances in life

When I had a VL some time ago, I bought a new set of wheels. The conditions that I put on the sale were 1. Must have holden lion centre caps 2. Must not scrub
Well on the day that I went in to get my new wheels they had centre caps that read 'Enzo' no holden lion in sight, but they promised to get me the holden ones, and they scrubed fairly badly (I found out on the way home), and having waited 2 weeks for my new wheels and tyres, they didn't even have the correct tyres on them. As I had taken the day off work to go get them, and they didn't have the tyres that I had ordered in stock, I begrudgingly took my car with the new wheels, on the promise that I would have the holden lions posted to me within a couple of days.....
End result was, despite many calls, and a few stop ins, the car was sold a few years later with the 'enzo' caps on. They didn't want to know about the scrubbing, after all I had selected the wheels......
I know that this is fairly petty, but to a young bloke, who had scrimped and saved for a several months to get the wheels that he wanted, it sucked big time.
I Won't name the place, because it sold years ago, but this is the type of crap that shonks continue to do.

This reminds me of my ducted aircon .. the outside box looks like it was loose in delivery and such they install the unit even thought it was dented.
Having paid and been told it would be fixed and on numerous phone calls i'm still being told theyre still wating on parts , some 2 years later, i still have a dented ouside aircon box, while it doesnt seem to affect its performance its :flipoff:
A weekend soon , im going to stand outside their main sales room and inform people that are browsing their goods that im still waiting for their "Total Satisfaction Guarentee" to work some 2 years later.
Should be a fun day.

In non automotive related products, I waited 2 years to a have a dented garage door fixed (it still NEVER was fixed properly). It is one of the timber look-a-like one's, and the visual appeal is a very big part of it. They tried to tell me that I had dented it myself (on the day that it was installed) even though every panel on the door was dented in the same spot, then they took away 3 of the 4 panels, leaving the 4th accross my garage opening but still attached for 6 weeks.....
Then they fitted it out of level.....
Then.....
Anyway, it was from a garage door mob on the Gold Coast, PM me if you want to know who.

Nope, I didn't know that, and I'll bet the guy that fitted them didn't know it either. And I'll bet you stood there and watched them be fitted.
They got it wrong and agreed to fix it. Count yourself lucky, and I don't believe the Co in question have done anything to deserve your comments.
PS I don't know the Co in question and have never dealt with them, though I do know some people that regard them highly.

I think this is a little harsh. For the price you paid there is probably less margin. Yes a mistake was made and the offered to rectify it.
A good mentor of mine once stated, Great product, Great price, Great service. Pick any two. It's amazing how true those words have turned out over the years.
I think in this world today we are all too quick to jump all over people.
Whats worse. Them making the error or a person booking a professional workshops time and just not turning up. Without even the courtesy of a phone call? :hmmm:

Good customer service is certainly hard to come by these days...
If they are genuine wheels for $1500 you have done well. I would suggest that those wheels are almost certainly not genuine for that price with tyres.

I'll offer the same warning as last time a thread was started similar to this.
If you post up the name of a business in a negative light, make sure what you say is completely factual to the point you would be willing to swear on it in court .... as that's where you may end up.

Forums are really hard like that... where its hard to say something good about a place, because that can get you into a tuner war, and if you say something bad you can end up in court!
Well all i have to say is, if you are getting an exhaust installed, in the croydon area of melbourne, PM me first and i'll tell you where not to go...
I had some pacies fitted to my car and i had to take it back to the place seven times, and twice to a holden dealer to diagnose the problem... The problem was the workshop breaking the coolant temp sensor when they were doing the install and fixing it themselves with glue... the same glue the used on the headers... (idiots) Anyway after taking it back a couple of times and still having the problems i was having, which was the car shutting down completely while driving.... i took it to holden who quickly found the problem. Called the shop and told them the issue, and they denied that they would ever do something so dodgy... Took it back and the owner of the business was all of a sudden very apologetic when he saw the sensor, and the photos i took of it. They then replaced it, and screwed something up in the process then, so i called them to get them to fix it again, took it in.. they said nothing was wrong, again. This continued on for some time. Eventually got it fixed at holden.
My advice is if you want something done take it to a sponsor. i took it there because it was about $200 cheaper than most places, and close to where i worked... but i ended up spending a lot more than $200 extra and it was a massive hassle.
The End.

PRE LS1.com.au:confused: When i just got my last car, VS SS, i took it to an exhaust shop in the Dandy area to get the exhaust done. When i picked it up in the arvo the guy who owns the shop started it up, gave her a few revs and i must admit she sounded ok. Looked under and noticed there was no rear muffler. Asked if this was legal, the reply "yep should even give you another 1-2kw". It was all painted black with a Redback front muffler and the big oval crome tip at the back. Payed about $250 fitted. About 3yrs later decided to get some Pacemaker headers fitted from a place in Carrum Downs. Found that the guy who done the exhaust had just cut out the front muffler and put the Redback one straight in, and same with the straight through pipe!:toetap: Ended up getting a full Redback "off the shelf" system. Then sold the car 4 months later........

oh no ... you should have just let me be
Yeah, I do work there. Here's how we saw it.
Some random buys a cheap set of rims off us from our ebay arm.
(Buyer beware dude ... you left the premises)
The ad you agreed to states "CHROME NUTS AND LOCKNUTS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE." nothing mentioned about centre caps.
The fact you received them is a bonus at all, and we can always argue that you should return them.
One of the young guy puts on the rims, then grabs a 4 pack of centre covers, and gets the VY SS ones (Part Number 92085477), rather than Part Number 92121783 (The cost of the CV8 ones is a bank breaking $ 13.10 btw)
He was easily mistaken, as the "machined face" you're carrying on about, isn't really "chrome" now is it?
http://www.oz8.org/gallery/albums/Seedyrom/CV8r.jpg
I mean come on, the CV8-z rims have more of a gleam to them. The CV8-r ones to me look more silver than anything.
So you pay up and leave ... then start picking fault.
You then give an abusive phonecall, demand money for petrol (!) and carry on like a whinning bitch.
You then strut around telling staff how to do their job. Then come online to have a cry ... telling everyone on the net how you should have "thumped" everyone
You're cool!
You seem upset that the owner wasn't there to discuss the problem ... maybe he doesn't have time for idiots
Thanks for the free advertising!

thanks to the person that made me aware of this thread.
first of all,
those wheels are 100% genuine and i will challenge anyone to prove otherwise and before you jump on the net and bad mouth me and my business get your facts right.
those centrecaps were those ones supplied to us by holden for those wheels.
wrong caps ill agree, but i wasnt here to notice it and the boys that fitted them assumed they were supplied by holden so they must be the correct ones,
our mistake, my apologies.
our policy is any customer complaints must be rectified in store,
and you were advised on the phone that bring the car back and we will be more than happy to swap the caps over for the caps of your choice.
we carry chrome, black, gunmetal and silver commodore centre caps.
we are one of the leading holden genuine wheel resellers in the country.
ask any of the 1000's of people from australia, new zealand, USA, and even the UK that have purchased genuine holden wheels from us if they ever had a problem.
you paid $1590 for a product that noone else will sell for less that $1900
I read your thread carefully and 90% of it were just over exagerated lies!
if your going to bad mouth us atleast be honest about it.
your a trouble maker that wanted something for nothing because of a mix up with a centrecap.
next time please take your business somewhere else,

well i will add my own Wheel problem story
Brought a Set of Wheels and tyres from Precession tyres in Clontarf last year in august when i was Quoted i said do you have interest free to which he nodded as i pulled my GE buyers edge card out.
so Saturday morning in i went with card in hand, car was too be lowered with Springs on all 4's after around 2 hours of waiting i asked if i could get a lift home, he lent me his Ute and loaded my old wheels and tyres in.
got home dropped them off and then headed back to the shop ( nearing on 4PM) car was ready and looked shit hot:woot:
when i handed over my Card he said " oh no we don't use Buyers Edge GE we only use Creditline GE.. i was like WTF i said well this is the only card i have ??
so i filled out the application for Creditline knowing i would be accepted But being 4Pm he said it wouldn't clear that day, so i agreed to pay on my Credit card and he would Cancel the credit payment later after my application was accepted.. so i went home happy..
after a 3 days i of ringing to find out if i he had canceled it.. i couldn't get hold of him.. Every time i rang he wasn't there, went in and same story...
i ended up just paying it on the Credit card and getting over it...
about 2 months ago i was buying a few things from Super A mart and after applying for my Creditline interest free, i was informed that i had an application pending and i had to do the Run around ring the tyre mob and get it canceld... Point is... Never trust anyone

Can relate to something similar, just somewhat pricier! Gearbox in a truck was serviced. I have been dealing with payless tyres for years now as they are up the road from me,i have bought tyres for my own vehicles and for customers vehicles, all wheels have been genuine and customer service was great, though my own wheels i bought werent genuine but they made me aware of that clearly before the sale, they have been great, actually not so long ago i had wheels fitted up for forum members car and he wanted specific wheels for his car which again were genuine wheels, wen i went there i forgot which wheels he wanted and asked them to fit the wrong wheels, after thinking bout it as i was waiting for them,i realised i chose the wrong wheels and they had already fitted the tyres and balanced them, being embarrased and feeling real bad as they had already fitted the wheels, wen i told the gal behind the counter i made a mistake, she went out in the workshop and had a word to the boys and came bak saying no worries we will get the correct rims its no hassle, now thats customer service !!! they didnt even get angry :D payless gets the thumbs up fro me :woot:

Good to see the truth revealed too - I don't see what they did wrong - they made a small mistake and offered to rectify it but you wanted money for petrol and your time? Sorry this is the real world...

I live about 20km away, I said who is gonna fix me up for my time and petrol,
If you are worried about a splash of fuel, maybe u shouldn't have got a set of wheels in the first place?
sounds like a mistake that they offered to help fix but u didnt want to play ball?
They say that criticism often tells you more about the person giving it than the person it is directed at...... (I think this is a perfect example of it).

This thread has given Payless a tick in the box from me, a customer had a problem and they promptly addressed and corrected it. What more can a customer ask?
Well done Payless I think I can see a set of VZ CV-8 wheels may be required soon and I hope you become a sponser of this site.

thanks to the person that made me aware of this thread.
first of all,
those wheels are 100% genuine and i will challenge anyone to prove otherwise and before you jump on the net and bad mouth me and my business get your facts right.
those centrecaps were those ones supplied to us by holden for those wheels.
wrong caps ill agree, but i wasnt here to notice it and the boys that fitted them assumed they were supplied by holden so they must be the correct ones,
our mistake, my apologies.
our policy is any customer complaints must be rectified in store,
and you were advised on the phone that bring the car back and we will be more than happy to swap the caps over for the caps of your choice.
we carry chrome, black, gunmetal and silver commodore centre caps.
we are one of the leading holden genuine wheel resellers in the country.
ask any of the 1000's of people from australia, new zealand, USA, and even the UK that have purchased genuine holden wheels from us if they ever had a problem.
you paid $1590 for a product that noone else will sell for less that $1900
I read your thread carefully and 90% of it were just over exagerated lies!
if your going to bad mouth us atleast be honest about it.
your a trouble maker that wanted something for nothing because of a mix up with a centrecap.
next time please take your business somewhere else,
we dont want it.
Good on ya Payless, you have the right to defend your business.
I've read of hundreds of people all satisfied with your service, so I don't see how this thread will sway anyone else away from dealing with you. I'll be coming to you blokes a year from now for some 20's :yup:

Just goes to show that there are always two sides to a story.:box:
Too true, at least both camps can agree to disagree.
Genuine GM wheels always have a part number on the inside for those of you who are unsure. If they dont, its a copy.
If you are buying wheels, ask if there are matching nuts, nut caps and centre caps.

Noone has said that them responding to criticism borders on advertising? ... it's posting website addresses, phone numbers, street addresses, username as the name of the business against forum rules, and discussing potential deals that hit the advertising redflags.
If they wish to sponsor they need to act quickly, as the username will be forcibly changed if no contact is made within 48hrs of joining.

It's a shame that payless tyres only joined up to reply to this thread, only when someone bitches about someone else they all of a sudden jumped on register and after their rant they gone ppffttt..
they probably didn't even know about this site before this. not every business or person knows of its exsistence. they only found out after someone from here called them.
glad to see a tyre place may join up anyway.
tempe T gets lots of comments but have not joined, they know about this site. and they have had negative comments about the cheap tyres they sell. no warrantee etc.

The point is that there would be no motivation for our current sponsors to ciontinue to support the site if other businesses can just happily post details/deals etc.

We aren't privvy to the financials of the site and to be honest couldn't really give a shit where the money goes. We were Mods before the sponsors became involved, and we have continued to do the same job afterwards - and I'd do them same job if there were no sponsors (if the site was still running)
All that's changed is that we were given a new set of rules to enforce - which is what we do .... enforce the rules and cop shit from people about enforcing those rules.

i agree with with you on the miracle customers,
sometimes you get customers that go out of there way to find something to whinge about, thats part of dealing with the general public i guess, you just gotta be patient sometimes.
to be honest, if i knew this gentleman was goin to cause such a fuss over a centrecap i wouldnt have sold him the wheels in the first place.
as anyone is business would know, there are times where things go wrong,
wrong items are delivered, parts dont arrive on time, shipping company loses/damages wheels in transit etc etc. if you were to post a essay on the net bad mouthing people everytime something went wrong , you would have a lot of enemies.
anyways, atleast something good came out of it,
hopefully my sponsorship will be up and running soon

I'll offer the same warning as last time a thread was started similar to this.
If you post up the name of a business in a negative light, make sure what you say is completely factual to the point you would be willing to swear on it in court .... as that's where you may end up.
Why is that..I didn't think a car Forum is liable for any slander or bad or negative feedback on any company....
there is no law stating that someone can't discuss their experience if it's true, I can't see where someone can to be put in a position of a court threat
over a bad experience through a dealer or a purchase gone wrong...that means half the talk back radio stations would spend more time in court than on air.
If these clowns wouldn't stuff people about they would have any bad feed back.

Even in regards to an individual person stating the own personal experience, there is little to no chance of a company going so fare to take a comment to court, every business is going to have Happy & unhappy customers...thats business...except for Sonny's work..all good I hear...
If a company or business is going to dwell on poor feedback on an issue they contributed too...they might as well slose shop or improve on their service.
And my point was ..you stated that any one should be cautious when posting comments on bad experiences...or they could be liable to a possible court action...why...
Ok "I Hate Fords because they rust " & " WRX's because they over rated" and any car that has more than factory placed stickers...and the list goes on...

Yes I realise that....So where does it say That I said or wrote there's a difference
Even in regards to an individual person stating the own personal experience, there is little to no chance of a company going so fare to take a comment to court, every business is going to have Happy & unhappy customers...thats business...except for Sonny's work..all good I hear...

You have a very basic understanding of the law EliteSS
In law, defamation is a right of action for communicating statements that may harm an individual's reputation or character. The common law origins of defamation lie in the torts of slander (harmful statement in a transitory form, especially speech) and libel (harmful statement in a fixed medium, especially writing but also a picture, sign, or electronic broadcast), each of which gives a common law right of action.
"Defamation" is the general term used internationally, and is used in this article where it is not necessary to distinguish between "slander" and "libel". Libel and slander both require publication. The fundamental distinction between libel and slander lies solely in the form in which the defamatory matter is published. If the offending material is published in some fleeting form, as by spoken words or sounds, sign language, gestures and the like, then this is slander. If it is published in more durable form, for example in written words, film, compact disc and the like, then it is considered libel.

Australia doesnt have any "free Speech" laws. You have been watching too much US TV and Movies.
Web sites in AU have been sued for allowing the publication of statements made by its members. Even though the statements were true didnt stop the web site having to spend many $1000's to defend itself against something the members said.
If the owner and moderators of a web site want to remove ANY post for any reason they are quite within their rights to do so. If thats to protect its members from themselves or the site as a whole then they need to do it and the members should be thankful.
BTW, many radio stations DO spend more time in court than on air.
In the end, the good guys won, bad guys didnt, nobody lost an eye and we were entertained for a while... now where is that "couldnt run on a Dyno" thread :lmao:

So welcome PAYLESSTYRES you have found the right site we LS1 boys tend to go through more tyres than a mormans bicycle.
You revheads might but most of us get 60k out of each set of tyres :woot:
Nah only kiddin in my ute I tore up 1 set in under 6k :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:
So Mr Payless I reckon if you did a pole and found the most popular brand of tyres for the guys on here and did a good deal on them you would sell heaps of them.

Yo Jeff,
Will you be at work at 8:40am tomorrow morning ?
yo seedy,
yes mate, ill be there
I was on my way by 8:45 :D
Thanks very much Jeff. Prompt, cheap, efficient, friendly service
Now .... I have the final conclusion (nail in the coffin?) to this thread.
Please excuse the low quality pics. The one with the evidence is a little hard to see, but I will do my best to describe it.
We have all heard the claim yes ?
Well whilst I waited for Payless to open, I looked at the display window that faces the road.
http://www.oz8.org/gallery/albums/Seedyrom/cover_chrome.jpg
There you can see the "chrome" covers that VT GEN3 was after.
But when you look at the wheels he actually bought, clearly, on display are the following covers
http://www.oz8.org/gallery/albums/Seedyrom/cover_silver.jpg
The silver versions!!!!
Some might say that this thread is totally useless.
Some might say that there was nothing wrong at all
Some might say that the fact that Payless tyres swapped them to the covers he later decided he wanted was totally above and beyond the call of good business
Some might say requesting $5 in petrol for your own error is rediculous
All I'll say is that I reckon they've done a pretty good job, LS1.com.au has benefitted from them joining, and I encourage other members to use their services.
I'd never been there until this morning, and was thoroughly impressed with what I found.
Cheers,

but aren't you going above the call of duty to proove the thread starter wrong and promote the tyre mob. we do need a tyre sponsor to answer questions etc about time and hope they stay a while. but the thread starter has already been prooven incorrect in his expectations. not that your wrong in any way, but i think he's been beaten over the head enough to learn something already.

But seriously, I think you SHOULD be paid for your time. I'd be a bit peeved if I was putting so much time into making the forum a good place to be AND making the owner money without some compensation. Good on you for donating your time for free.
I am really getting sick and tired of all this BS .. let me break it down for you ..
1. The forums are provided FREE for all users, without sponsors this would not be the case.
2. The forums generate (serve) on average around 10GB/day of traffic.
3. The new web server hardware alone was just shy of $20k to purchase. This does not include the other servers that look after the domain and mail etc.
4. The Forums are NON-PROFIT which means all revenue MUST by law be put back into the running of the forums.
5. The Moderators do a fantastic job and have in the past received gifts of gratitude for their efforts. They have not received any lately as there has been considerable investment in the infrastructure to support the volume of users.
Best that you as a user simply enjoy the fact you have this resource provided to you completely free of charge, on a very fast server which is hardly ever down.
The forums are classified legally as a Publisher and has similar responsibilities to those of other publishing media. This thread is a potential minefield of civil action as the line between fact and libel is not easy to determine. In the past our policy has been to can anything emotive as far as negative posting goes. If posts are rational, structured and ordered stating a recurrence of the events as they happened then they are usually left up unless directed to have them removed by a court.

you should get your own section soon then.
start up a thread in it with rims etc
also a list of what are the best performance tyres for price and list in say under $200, under $300 and over $300. overall best value for money tyres.
tried a couple of under $160 ones in 18's last two times. nankang ns2 grip was good, handling was good, noisy on mine. ECSTA SPT KU31 grip good, handling good, not noisy. bugger all rain really to test that.

We don't condone any illegal activity and posts about burnouts or the like on here are just posts/text. Without actual proof or conviction by the law it is just one person's ramblings as far as we are concerned. How that person is judged by the greater forum community however is a different story :)
If there is material posted or linked to that is obviously illegal it is removed as soon as it discovered or reported. This is one of the main reasons we do not allow attachments only links, we would then be hosting such material if someone chose to attach it to a post.
