just checked on the results for the second race and i see rick kelly finished in 28th spot, just wonderin if someone can shed some light on what happened.
Its gunna be tight for the championship now.
The number of people at the race reminds me of the "2 Litre SuperTourers" at lakeside in the nineties.....

The number of people at the race reminds me of the "2 Litre SuperTourers" at lakeside in the nineties.....
Yeah, very sparse crowd. I actually ended up going to bed, what an absolutely boring track. No crowd, piles of sand. I feel sorry for the drivers.

Yeah was a pretty boring weekend of racing really even though I watched the whole thing on Bigpond on fri & sat. R Kelly made a good recovery in race 3 and only 7 points between Lowndesie & Kelly going into PI. I think Kelly was lucky to get out of the Courtney incident without a penalty IMO.
GT jumped the start and cost himself the round win. Congratualions to Jason Bright and FPR on their round win. FPR have come leaps and bounds this year. Great to see!

With all the people in Australia that support V8 racing, why take the race to Bahrain where obviously no one is interested in this race. There is hardly anyone in the stands watching. They would have got a full house here in Australia where it belongs.:yup:

Its a business to Mr Cochrane. The Promoter of the Bahrain circuit would have paid AVESCO lots of $$$$$.

Just wonderin on other peoples opinions on drive thru penalties.
I know that tander did the wrong thing in race 3 and had to be dealt with, but for him to get a drive thru that cost him 50 seconds to complete is a pretty harsh penalty.
Escpecially if you were to get a drive thru at a track like tasmania or somewhere that the pit lane is alot shorter and you may only lose 30 seconds it seems to me that it isnt a fair penalty at all the tracks we compete at.
MAybe we should have a set penalty that is added to the race time, because tander was clearly the quickest in bahrain and he may have been able to get a big enough gap to still win.

Yeah, very sparse crowd. I actually ended up going to bed, what an absolutely boring track. No crowd, piles of sand. I feel sorry for the drivers.
All the media had talked the track up big time, sure it might have lavish facilities, but it doesn't mean much if the racing isn't good to watch.
I admit that I can't put my finger on why I didn't like it, but I was channel surfing during the second race...and fell to sleep during the third!

I dont think its so much the track its more the series that is boring IMO. With the exception of bathurst the racing and spectacle isnt that great.

Re the drive thru penalties, I feel the penalty should fit the crime.
Most drive thru penalties are way out of balance to crime.
Tanders case is extreme.
Did he break the rules----Yes.
Did he gain any benefit----No.
Did he hinder anyone -----No.
So why wreck his race for a minor dissgression.
The rules are meant to be flexible.
Perhaps a 10 sec penalty would have been more appropriate.

Bahrain...more like Bah-oring.
I think I can put my finger on why, notwithstanding no crowds so no atmosphere at the track.
The problem as I see it is the track is just too wide. Watching on tv you can't really see anything to indicate where on the track they are, as it is just car and road. Also being so wide it makes the cars look really slow. Just my opinion but did nothing for me.
Also think the drive through penalties are wrong. Like said above, it equates to different penalties depending on the track. Needs something along lines of a bay not in the pit complex, where a penalised driver can pull in at speed, stop for the desinated penalty time, and then take off at speed. What do you guys think.

I like that Idea... Skaife's drive through knocked him down around 10 places because of the pit straight length.

Totally agree about the special bay for penalties, there is a major difference im penalties depending on which track you are at.

I'm not 100% sure what motivated the series (I don't want to cast aspersions as to dodgy dealings) to go to Bahrain where the crowd was disgustingly small.
"Blah blah blah V8 Supercars is a major international series coz we race at international tracks..." cough cough bullshit. Such a huuuuuge international event that 12 people and 3 camels turned up to watch it.
I'd like to know - what has racing there done for the series?
Mind you, the track was a bit of alright with multiple lines seeing a lot of overtaking compared to previous rounds and even some biff-n-barge racing like the early V8 series (circa '93-'95) I enjoyed the racing coz it was a bit different, but I didn't pay to go watch it.

IMHO.......and I am V8 Supercar tragic.........deadset the most BORING / CRAP / racing I have ever seen....may as well be WWF V8 Supercars ............and the channel 10 coverage is getting worse....... :flipoff: :flipoff: ...... obviously the "care factor" is getting smaller too..........
If each round was like that I wouldnt bother watching or following the series ever again................:toetap: :toetap:
Any way lets hope Kelly beats Lowndes...........and if Lowndes wins the idiots that made the BS jumped start at Adelaide on Rick should be sacked:soap:
......... I just wonder who would be leading the championship if he hadnt been seconded to HRT for Sandown and Bathurst................... its not just the odd round that got away on Tander, it was the championship................:bawl: ......

I reckon you are entirely wrong - do you like safety cars? Bathurst was one of the worst rounds of the year - the cars are too fast for that place and it is getting dangerous for them to run there.
At Bahrain we saw passing than repassing, three cars abreast going down the straights, different lines for the corners (also two three abreast) and because the run off was solid, we saw very little of the safety car.
Easily the best race on the calendar - I don't give a stuff about crowds as to me, unless the race is in NSW I'll watch it on TV - couldn't really care how many attended the meeting.
