I was driving home on the m2 today when a car in front of me ran over a piece of plywood would of been at least 2mtrs by 3mtrs, and when he ran over it the plywood lifted up and flew straight towards me.
I had no choice but to hit it, i braked and swerved but it was no use the piece was HUGE.
I smashed right through it :flamin: i pulled over and stopped to check my car.
I found chunks of timber in my intercooler and my front spoiler has seen better days.
I rang the m2 told them what happened and all they said was they won't pay for the damages because they didn't put the timber there. So i rang my insurance told them what happened they're going to see if they can get the m2 to pay for it.
I couldn't be stuffed trying to workout how to upload pics not in the mood :vpo: i'll try and get someone to do it for me.
Sorry for my rant :soap: but i had to get it off my chest.

I feel for you Nirvana. Very, Very, scary situation to be in. Glad you weren't hurt but it still sucks. I almost had the same thing happen to me on the Eastern FW here in Melb. Only the car in front ran over something the size of a football and threw it straight at the windscreen, in peak hour traffic. I braked but had no room to avoid so hit it fair square in the centre of the windscreen ( me dropping over to the center console to avoid stopping it with my head. Imagine my relief when it turned out to be a chunk of polystyrene !!!

Hope you repairs are quick and trouble free.

I believe the M2 has cameras and signs to warn people... also, the council may be someone to contact...

You can bet your a$$ that if the insurance company goes them all of a sudden the mob running the freeway will be looking into their video footage trying to track down the offending vehicle that lost the load.

Was a case over here probably 6mths ago now, a little hino type truck that had steel girders on it crashed and they went into a school bus...Was charged with a few things.

thats bullshit. mate sorry to hear hope some good comes out of this.

same thing happened to a relative, ran over a tyre re-tread damaged exhaust and ripped off a sideskirt. got a letter stating that the re-tread was not owned by M2 and therefore wasn't their responsibility and suggested he approached the truck operator/company.

I have been noticing lately that no matter what the road it seems they are rarely cleared of debris, esp- the toolways around Sydney.
Every time someone moves off the 'racing line' these days they seem to kick up a rock or some other bit of crap, once there was a time when roads were cleared on a regular basis, now they seem to only clear the big stuff, and they are not real good at that either!
I have a nice chip in my windscreen where a rock or something was kicked up by a truck that only just put a wheel or two over the white line, pissed off about that because I had the it replaced about 6 months ago from a similar incident.
Nirvana, hopefully your insurance co puts a rocket up Transurban, they are quite happy to charge you $4.40 to sit in a line of cars, so they should be shot for not keeping their crap road clean.

there was big chunks of timber lodged in my intercooler , i pulled them out.
i think its time and hit the scotch and not worry about it. :)
totaly agree holden driver.
the thing is if that ply didn't flip all the way around and i hit it on its side not front on it would of come through the windscreen and taken me and my mates head off.

"Duty of Care" means they have to do as much as practicable to make it safe for users. They can't control the other users but they can keep it clean and free of debris. If not then that's negligent. I'm sure your insurance company already knows this.

This really is a joke, who needs this sort of drama, esp. when you pay to ride their friggin freeways!Check out where you hit the ply next time, there is usually a camera around somewhere watching the traffic,if so I'd let the insurance know about it,might help.......
Hopefully not too much damage done there.
I too have noticed more & more crap & rubbish on the roads of late, something really should be done.

My old man had a similar thing happen to him when a truck in front ran over something and flicked it up - turned out to be made of steel!! Put a big dint in the roof just above and slightly to the left of his head. A foot or two lower and it could have killed him........

you made me feel better now!

I left Artarmon right on 4:00 yesterday and got caught on Epping Road. Onto the M4 and just as we hit the 100 sign bam, stopped to the point I could put the car in park, get out, grab my bag from the boot, get back in.

I sat there wondering how they could build an "expensiveway" that just stops at 4pm. It cleared up after the tools but then stopped again shortly after that.

Man I was mega pissed, but its no where near as bad as what you copped. And its bull shite they wont take responsibility, theyve got cameras and supposidly road crews to clean that sort of crap up. Even the new Lane Cove tunnel has "emergency response crews" getting around and it hasnt even opened, the M4 uses the RTA traffic response vans to clean up stuff like that, so whats their excuse, its not ours so we wont pay for it?

but i had nowere to stop to move it mate your better off NOT moving it, especially with traffic coming at you at supposidly 90/100kph (more like 130kph). One hit and your gone, even if you come out alive its still yoru fault because you shouldnt stop and walk on a motorway. Unfortunately you try to do the right thing for others and if something goes wrong its your fault.

Sorry to hear that mate. I would investigate legally whether they are liable or not, for the simple fact that you pay a fee for the use of the road, hence it is their responsibility to keep it maintained

I think you'll find that this sort of clean-up work is sometimes contracted out to companies like Daracon,Theiss etc. to name a few, can't remember the others right now.

Easy to blame the fruckers for not having cleaned it, except it could have come of who evers load it was on only 30 secs before.
