Hey guys i have just had the genie short extractors fitted properly and just driving around normally they sound very nice but under load and even downgearing i can hear an audible tinny type noise comminf from under the car, doesnt sound like its hitting anything, its not random, its sounds like its just louder tinnier firing of cylinders.. Can this be a leaky system or anything like that? is it common? the installer thinkis it normal, but its pretty pronounced, at WOT up high in rev rang it sounds more like a squeal?

Sounds like the cats aren't sealed on the steel gaskets.

Not a major problem mate. I fitted Pacemakers to my ute and ALOT more noises from the engine are audible now. Ticking etc. Its just that the walls of the extractor's pipes are not as thick or "insulated" as the stock cast iron holden headers. I had it at two exhaust places looking for a leak or gasket problem but both of them said that its just the thinner pipe walls not dampening all engine noises.
Just check that your steering knuckle isn't hitting any pipe either as when the engine moves around a little, anything attached to it (headers or cat pipe) may come into contact with other components.

Cheers,
Adam

Chev its does sort of sound like that, i will get it checked out again, other then that they are fantastic, so much of a change, heaps of mid range and low down torque and feels much more free'er... revs out much better too.

If they are tri-y design ... quite common. I've previously had pacemaker tri-ys and now have have H&M tri-ys and they both exhibit the same noise you've described.

I've had it explained to me as noise from the collectors ... ... sounds plausible I suppose.

I even had the gaskets replaced as I'd convinced myself it was a flange leak and it made no difference.

Even my TX-3 with tri-ys and has the same tinny noise.

Given that you've only just had them fitted ... take it back to the installer and ask if they could re-check for flange leaks at all the joins. What harm can it do.

Ive got SS Xforce 4 - 1's and there's a distinct tinny tick. You'll get used to it.

But i also have a crappy tinny noise that i get when ever i change gears (when the revs drop) or i down shift.

Sounds like a real crappy version of Bullitt (anyone into cars remembers that)
Ive been told its the cheap mercury boxes that the guy fitted. And the fact that he didn't put a cross over in
