I am about to upgrade the audio on my 2004 monaro.
I'm just curious about whether replacing the factory head unit will have any impact on the audio for the parking sensors.
I did some searching and someone was saying the parking sensors have separate speakers, but im sure the audio is routed through the two rear side speakers - at least thats how it seemed when i checked them out this morning.
So are they separate from the factory audio? Will replacing the headunit cause any problems?
Thanks

If it was me, I would forget the factory sensors and go with a nice 6.5" TFT head unit with DVD, then also install a reversing camera as well!

The reverse sensors use a seperate speaker to the audio system. Sits under the parcel shelf.

Actually I am getting a reversing camera but I want the sensors to work as well.
Is the speaker in the parcel shelf in the Monaro? I put it into reverse and put my head right upto the speaker behind the drivers door and it definetly sounded louder there.

Okay - do an easy test...
Pull the radio fuse, make sure the radio doesn't work, then try the reverse sensors.
If you hear noise they are independent, if there is no noise, they are part of the system.
Warning - make sure you have the radio code - as it might need it after the loss of power :bawl:

After doing some more research I'm pretty sure they are independent.
They can be heard with the radio off and the volume of the stereo doesn't affect the volume of the sensor.
Will confirm with the installer tomorrow before the new head unit goes in.
Thanks Guys

Behind the right hand inner side trim from memory, next to the rear seat. That's why it sounds like it's coming from the side speakers.

That's correct, totally independant speaker. Can be found on driver side roughly between seatbelt fastner on floor and start of back seat. Changing complete stereo will not have any impact.

The reverse sensors are seperate to the radio.

Thanks for the responses.
I'm pretty excited about the new head unit thats going in.
Off Topic can anyone who has upgraded the factory system confirm if all the speakers still work ie the rear subs?
I'm getting the Eclipse AVN6000 for anyone that's curious.
For anyone curious new head unit was installed today.
Reversing sensors are a completely separate system as advised in the comments above.
Thanks
