The cam would void the mechanical warranty (mainly the driveline) so engine, gearbox, clutch, diff, driveshafts, etc). Basically the engine isn't warranted to handle the extra power so if something breaks then Holden *could* use the cam as an excuse not to fix it. That being said, plenty of folk have had warranty work carried out with mods without dramas, it depends on the dealer.

At the very minimum changing the cam will void the warranty on the valve train in the engine, more likely though it will void the warranty on the whole motor. At the worst, it will void the warranty on the the whole engine and drive train, clutch, gear box, tail shaft, diff and drive shafts. It all comes down to how the guys at Holden feel on the day they check you claim out and what really occurred. It won't void the warranty on the rest of the car though, things like the interior, paint, panels etc will still be covered.

The same goes for the exhaust, though Holden is much more accommodating here. Holden of course won't cover the exhaust if you change it, but they will generally cover the rest of the car, as long as it has been used the way that Holden intended.

A cam would void warranty on the stock cam (although its no longer there no not an issue). Holden would have to prove the new cam specifially caused a problem. Getting lifters, valve springs or even head gaskets etc under warranty would be hard. If your starter motor etc failed than it cant be caused by a cam swap so you would be able to claim it. Ive seen ppl with cams get rebuilds for piston slap so its hardly an issue but does depend a LOT on the dealer.

I asked at Holden dealer about the effects of changing my exhaust. He told me it would void the transmission because it's not built to handle the extra power.

Cam definitely voids warranty, but as for the exhaust...

...I asked my service centre and they told me a cat-back was OK.

Cat bacvk eh? Whats does that do for sound? Also a vz thunder ute what would make it louder that holden can do that won't void my warranty?

rayrayla, a catback is an aftermarket exhaust system (usually bigger and louder) that is bolted on from the first flange(s) after the catilytic converter(s).This in most cases wont void your warranty. By the way have you actually got a Thunder ute yet or are we still pissing in the wind.

Cheers

Hahaha the extra few kw's from an exhaust will kill the transmission???

What piece of shite tranny's holden must built according to the dealer then!!!

Year 2206,

New Post,

Just had my LS1001 modified with Tuna's Twin Flux Capacitors, Dyno'd at 1.21 Giga Watts.

Ran it down the 1/4, went back in time 4 days, beat my PB by another 1/2 a day. :dancenana:
