...and they turned out pretty sweet! The paint on my original hinges was looking terrible (someone must have opened the tailgate when the paint was still wet, and it was all flaking off and shocking) so I got some new hinges, and had them chrome plated.

They took me about an hour to install, all it took was a 12mm socket, a ratchet, and a small Phillips-head screwdriver (for the little bumperette things, and the tubliner on the tailgate) and also, I put a mattress under the tailgate when I lowered it, so I wouldn't scratch it.

I know chrome isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I think it suits my VZ SS, as there is a lot of chrome on them in the first place (badges, quarter indicators etc.) and it just sets it off nicely. My car is filthy in these pics, I was just fairly excited, and wanted to take a couple of pictures! These pics may suck a little, as they were taken as stillshots with my video camera.

If anyone is interested in some chrome hinges, PM me!

When I read the thread headline, I thought it'd be pretty crappy, but now having seen the photos, it looks great! They should come from the factory like that...

Good choice, they look great. I was a little worried when I first read the thread topic also but after seeing the pictures I might even consider getting a set for my ute. How much did you pay for them?

My thoughts exactly, hence the shinyness these days...haha

If you'd like a set, I could do them for about $200 for a pair, posted to anywhere in Australia. Hooray!

Gee they aren't cheap are they..?

You'll have to take a few pictures during the day from a further distance to get a better overall picture.

No, they definitely wouldn't be the cheapest, but the electroplating cost me quite a bit. The first pair I bought and got plated, they turned out terrible. All the chrome was rather erratic, wasn't neat, and was all flaking off by the time I picked them up! I went back to the original guy who did a bunch of electroplating for me a while ago, and the ones that he did turned out excellent. Only problem is, I have a one-hour drive each way to see him! haha

I'll do them for $190 including post if anyone wants them, let me know if any of you guys are interested!
