Holden are about to release the Astra SRi, which was unveiled for the first time at the AIMS in October. It's packs a punchy 2.2-litre direct injection four-banger worth 110 kW and 215 Nm.
The engine is the first Astra engine to offer variable high-pressure direct fuel injection, enhancing its efficiency compared with multi-point fuel injection systems.
Features include a standard six-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels, sports chassis pack, semi automatic climate control, leather heated seats and a lower sports body kit.
These features are complemented by advanced safety features such as driver, front passenger, front side impact and curtain airbags. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control and the acclaimed crash avoidance system Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) are also standard.

Any ideas on price. Looks to be similar in spec to the Mazda SP23.

I'd be guessing high twenties, same as the last N/A SRi, especially since the Turbo is priced mid thirties.

They (Holden) might have a winner on their hands if they can price it below the Mazda SP23 which has sold extremely well.

110 Kw for a 2.2 with Direct Injection considering Mazda get 108Kw out of its 2 Litre.

It depends on the way Holden market it. The CDXi is already up in the high-20s, so they could chop into their profits a bit and really show up their rivals. Ignore my last post, I was thinking of the SRi Turbo which is $34,990. If they flogged it for $29,990 they could brag about it being in the sub-$30k segment. Very low 30's maybe.
Can anyone remember the price difference between the TS-model CDX and the 2.2 SRi? (or if there was one)

Mazda do get 115kw from the 2.3L that they put in the SP23 or 195kw from the same engine with a turbo stuck to it in the 3 MPS.
Still pretty good for fours. The old VL 6 cyl put out 112kw !!

TS CDX was $29,990 I think and SRi was $28,990. (TS CDX is a bloody nice car too, my in laws have one. I'd be inclined to get a two year old one of those over a new CD).
Worth noting too that the Astra CDXi is on the way out - I think the range is now CD, CDX, CDTi, SRi and then Turbo.

as an ah sri owner, i'd prefer the cdit to the non turbo variant, i think it represents excellent value for the money given the specs, economy AND more power.

Hmmmm, never heard off semi automatic climate control......
Semi Auto Climate control only controls the Air Temp, not the air flow positions like fully auto climate control.
Prices:
$29990 Five Door Manual
$30490 Coupe Manual
Add $2000 Auto and $360 for Metallic
Great Value for money, epecially since it has Leather heated seats as Standard, when just leather alone is an option in the SP23.
Should sell well :D

Funnily enough, the new SRi hatch looks just like my CDTi! Mine has the body kit plus 18" alloys etc. The diesel is more powerful, no doubt smoother to drive and better economy. I'm happy with my decision. Only thing it lacks from the new SRi is the leather seats, but that's no biggy to me. :bravo:

you'll find with direct injection the 2.2 will use less fuel, depending on the weight of the mazda ofcourse

I think it is a really nice looking car, the coupe would be pretty nice. Don't get me wrong, its no LS1, but for a daily driver feel free to give me one!
