engine 3.5 litres/tonne
Here is the list of vehicles not allowed:
Pre 2004 models (http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf/rdsafe/restrictedvehiclesoldermodelspre2004.pdf)
After 2004 (http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf/rdsafe/Jan05RestrictedVehicles.pdf)

In some states, you are restricted by a power to weight ratio, on a probationary licence (first couple of years of driving).

And here, after the past twenty minutes cutting and pasting and waiting for the shitey internet connection that I have over here (:( ) are THE relevant legislative provisions for VICTORIA:-
Road Safety (Drivers) Regulations 26/1999:-
Section 211. Vehicle power restrictions
(1) The holder of a probationary driver licence must
not drive a high powered motor vehicle on a
highway until the probationary period shown on
his or her licence has expired.
Penalty: 3 penalty units.
(2) Sub-regulation (1) does not apply to—
(a) a person who is driving the motor vehicle in
the course of his or her employment and at
the request of his or her employer; or
(b) a person exempted by the Corporation under
sub-regulation (3).
(3) The Corporation, by instrument in writing, may
exempt a person from the requirements of subregulation
(1) if the nature of the person's
employment or family circumstances is such that
compliance with the regulation would impose
undue hardship on the person or the person's
family having regard to the likely effect of the
exemption on safe, efficient and equitable road
use in Victoria.
From those Regulations, in the Definitions at Part 1, Section 104:-
"high powered motor vehicle" means a motor
vehicle (other than a motor cycle or motor
trike) which—
(a) has a power mass ratio which exceeds
125 kilowatts per tonne; or
(b) has an engine capacity which exceeds
3⋅5 litres per tonne of the unladen mass
of the motor vehicle;
Unfortunately, ANY LS1 powered vehicle falls into either of these two categories - there is no doubt about that point.
I would think that VS/VTs may be okay in general, if they are the 304 engine, due to the weight of the cars. You would need to look at the manufacturer's specifications to check.
Some people do take the risk driving the restricted vehicles, however, it is up to you to decide. I believe that it is a monetary penalty and maybe demerit points if you are booked for the offence of driving a high powered vehicle.
Of course, the exemption is also there, however, you would have to prove that you fall within that category.
Good luck in making your choice,
Macca

Yes, and it will probably will happen there eventually, but only after they take your guns away.
Weird how your drinking age is 21yo, do 18yo's go out drinking around the streets over there?

i'm from Tassie so and we don't have these over here... well not yet!
But if the limit is 125fwkw per tonne then you could have either
VT Series 1 SS
1697kg curb weight
so 125 x 1.697 = 212.125 kw for the VT
The SS only came out with 179kw so that should be fine.
VS Series 2 SS
1609kg curb weight
so 125 x 1.609 = 201.125
The VS SS came out with 168kw so that should also be fine.
---------------------------------------------
The question I have is
VS Club Sport
Curb Weight - 1573kg
Power - 185kw
Engine Size - 3.5 x 1.573 = 5.5055L
Power - 125 x 1.573 = 196.625kw
But I saw this on the ban list?
So in short, I have no idea. Best to call up Vic Transport and verify if you can or your insurance company (they may have some idea).
