engine check please help

hi guys a couple of weeks ago engine check symbol illuminated on my trip computer so i took it to holden and they said it might be caused by a battery problem and wanted to charge me 160 dollars for the battery to be changed well i didnt let them but now driving home today its was again present so i was wondering if you guys can shed some light on this problem thanks in advance.
btw the car is a VY2 SS

Hey mate. Well there is a number of reasons why the check engine/powertrain light comes on. I've had a prob with the check engine light and sonny @ marrano's helped me out. To give u a few idea's on what it could be check my thread out.
