Hi,
I have just installed some dials i got from NVU. They are meant to be the Genuine HSV dials but i am not real happy with the look of them. I have a VY HSV and it doesn't suit the rest of the dials. If anyone else has a VY/VZ please post some pics of your gauges.
I don't wanna put a bad name on NVU as i think they are great and they have a lot of good to offer but i am worried, just maybe they gave me the wrong ones.............:rolleyes:
Here the are in the car:
http://www.cuzdesign.com.au/ls1/dialsALL.jpg
Just the dials:
The needles don't light up and the colour is different to the actual speedo cluster. It's an off white. The globe has this cheap ass blue cover over it to try to make it more white.

A pic i got off Google of what they should look like:

Please help. THANKS

Is a bit dodgy. I'll take a better one tomorrow but surely the dial should light up and looking at the first bit the colour is just all wrong.

The google picture ia a VZ and the one NVU supplied is a VY type ( would have to see a better picture to know for sure ).

Crap pictures but as far as I can tell they look just like my VYII R8 dashtop gauges.
My needles do not "light" up.
Don't know what the Google pic is of but certainly not VY series HSV. No red section like VY series. Shape of binnacle is wrong for VY series which are in a single flat top binnacle.
Why not ask NVU rather than cast doubt on them in a public forum? You trust a random Google search over NVU?

if you have an issue with the product them maybe your first call should be to NVU instead of casting aspersions whether intentional or not

VY needles don't light up. The ones in your last shoot are VZ and don't fit in a VY

I am not trying to give a bad name to NVU.
Nick @ NVU rigged up the VY dials into the VZ pod for me and gave me fantastic instructions. I couldn't be happier with their service. I had sent an email and spoke to Nick from NVU told me to post something here to check it out.
I just wanted to make sure thats all.
The reason i wanted the HSV dials not an aftermarket was because i was told they light up white to match the rest of the dials and if you look at the first pic they don't. I know i am being picky but i really want it to be spot on.
Does anyone maybe have a solution??? Can i use a different globe or cover or.......? What globes are used in the VZ dials to get that white glow rather than an off white glow??

Yes that is one of NVU modified VZ binnale housings for non-climte A/c with VY HSV gauges in it.

Looks great during the day, really it is just the colour it lights up that give me the shits. I am a bit of a perfectionist and like things to be right.

Holden changed the shape of the plastic surrounds In VZs with climate control.
You have a VZ non-climate binnacle with VY HSV gauges in it.

A couple of HSV owners on here have also mentioned that they don't like the way the needles don't light up.

Do you know if any found a solution??? Seems HSV is to blame for the colour it lights up.

Yeah, I woulda gone for VZ gauges for that reason, but they probably wouldn't match the rest of your dash.

Initially that is what i wanted to do but the VZ have a digital signal to the gauges where as the VY has an analogue signal so you can't install the VZ gauges to a VY.
Information i recieved thanks to NVU.

Okay so not fakes which i was hoping they weren't.
But now to the issue of the light colour. Are there any globes that light up a pure white colour rather than a off white down light colour???? I remember someone talking about about LED globes somewhere??
Here are what the globes in the back look like.
http://www.cuzdesign.com.au/ls1/globe1.jpg
http://www.cuzdesign.com.au/ls1/globe2.jpg
Globe is pretty standard and you can see the blue cover over it to make it seem a bit more white. Which is kinda strange........
Is there anything i could try to get them looking more like the HSV speedo dial colour???
Would something like this work????

I have the same genuine binnacles in my car. To get around the lighting issue I have installed led white globes and they certainly glow brighter at night and you can see the needles better too.
Hope this helps.

stukes - if you get the gauges in the right angle you should be able to see the HSV Helmet/Lion logo embossed in the white of the gauges, that will tell you if they are genuine but from the pics they look pretty much exactly like mine.

They are the same size and shape as the original ones and they just glow a lot brighter than the ones you get with the gauges. I got mine from coventrys but i'm sure any automotive store would stock them just ask if you can't find them.

I have just seen this thread and im alittle dissapointed to be honest. We at NVU dont sell anything thats not non genuine HSV or GMH or HBD .
We have some items that are modified however i can assure you nothing we sell is non genuine or fake.
What we did to assist you is supply a brand new genuine VY HSV Kit But as your using a VZ Monaro facia the factory VY HSV pod wont fit.So we supplied a genuine VZ Monaro pod with a custom bracket to fit the VY gauges into this pod. Apart from this modification the kit is supplied how we get the kits in directly from HSV.
The colour or how bright the colour is completely out of our control however if you feel this is factory fault or error im happy to change over this unit for you.

Stukes - I have a Senator which has the OE pod that you are complaining about and it has all the faults that you mention.....I've written to HSV about it but that's how they are....Pretty poor I agree...but that's how they are... NVU only supply the real deal.

Yeah sorry Nick. If i could change the title i would. But i don't say anywhere in the thread that they were not genuine i was just asking as i thought it was strange that HSV gauges don't match. Clearly not your fault but HSVs fault. If a moderator could change the title to 'Gauge Lighting Help' that would be great.
Sorry Nick your service was fantastic and i would recomend NVU to anyone. Bad title choice thats all.

DK are you saying that there is a VZ style binnicle gauge pod (with the two humps) that will fit a VY? :bounce:
If so, do you have a part number and RRP at all?

OK, so it's only the VZ that has the glowing needles.
The VY will not fit the VZ type.

Not officially. However, NVU sell a VZ style binnacle which has been modified to fit VYs and non-climate VZs. Give them a call.
