Hi all
Looking for a bit of advice here folks. Im looking at updating my ride in the near future and buying either a used VZ Calais or SS under novated lease. I would probably be getting an edit and catback either way, so my question is - is it worth the jump to a 6 ltr or not? To complicate the issue, Im not sure whether the fleet mob would approve use of 95/98 fuel. Given this, is it worthwhile (or even possible) to get an edit done based on regular fuel, or
would it just defeat the purpose?
And for those lucky people steering an L76, have you noticed much of a loss in power while running on std or 95 ron ULP, as opposed to 98?
Thanks in advance.

Definately worth getting the L76, better heads and intake, bigger capacity and awesome with a cam swap.

I think both motors are tuned to run on low RON anyway (this is the whole point of the edit - to increase the advance to get extra power out of higher RON fuel).
If you're just talking about catback exhaust and no other mods then I don't think there will be a gobsmacking difference. It really comes down to the dollar value difference between the vehicles surely ? are you talking $1k ? 5k ? 10k ???

I'd definitely say go with the L76, VooDoo has pretty much covered every reason why.

Nope, SOME had the 320mm fronts and larger rears that came originally on the Monaro. There is no 330mm front on VZ's. Not all VZ's got them either.

And if you read the first thread closely, he will be having trouble getting his lease to OK 95/98 Juice so you can kiss the camshaft idea goodbye.
Dollars would play the biggest deciding factor as to what car to buy.
I don't see a major difference between 91/95/98, your always going to feel a minor boost in both acceleration/fuel economy with the higher octane fuels but nothing considerable.
I'm yet to try the new Sheel V-Power Racing 100 which I hear runs very well.

Mine pings it's arse off on 91 (obviously cause it's tuned for 95+) I wouldn't mind trying the new Shell V-Power stuff but I'm still not convinced that ethanol is good for my engine.

on a stock tuned car you wont see much advantage from running higher octane fuels. There just isn't enough timing in the stock tune to get the most out of it. For me at the moment i have 95 in the VT as I couldn't get any 98 when i went to fill up this week as the pump blew up. Its the first time i've run 95 since getting tuned, and I can notice the difference considerably. Fuel consumption is pretty much the same though.
