View Full Version : Oil pressure indicator on VE SS-V

Picked up my SS-V yesterday, and drive the 500kms home this morning, and I've got a question for other SS-V owners...

How does your oil pressure guage behave? I've never had this type of guage on a car before, so not sure how it's supposed to react.

I didn't notice exactly what it was reading when I picked it up, but after 200kms, I thought it was dropping. I kept an eye on it and it dropped again (to below 3) I pulled into a servo, let it cool, then checked the oil level. Spot on, at the top line. Carried on driving, and it pretty much stayed just below the 3. Now I'm home, and I've done a couple of real quick local trips, I notice that it can drop down to 1, but when I give it a rev, it will move up to 3.

Is this normal, or something to worry about?

Sounds normal to me.. As your oil heats up, the oil becomes thinner, pressure changes... Diffrent types of oil will also change the oil pressure readings i.e. 10-50 etc

i agree, also different revs will change the gauge readout. depending on the following conditions mine can differ by 10psi - what speed you are driving at, what gear you are in (which effect revs), cold or warm engine. as long as the pressure doesn't drop right off i wouldn't worry.

Mine at hot idle is about 1 and when driving along on 3.

That whole cluster of guages is a P.O.S.

I wish someone would come up with a new display or something to bolt in front of it. It is so 1980's - I dont know what Holden were thinking...

Are the SSV same as the R8?

100% agree - total waste of space and never used. Trying to think what I can put in the space to cover it up - a moving gold fish scene comes to mind and would be of alot more use.

What does your Charge/Volts do??

Mine on occasions will drop to 12 and stay for a few minutes (all RPM) then back up to 13 and/or 14??

Is this what others are seeing?

The battery will sit at around 14.2V during its charge cycle, then drop to 13.8 as a nominal operating voltage... Practically, this will fall to around 12V under load... So your basically seeing the charge cycle of the battery

NVU are working on some VE Clubby type gauges which I gather would cover the original P.O.S. ones. See http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=65704

Agreed - if anyone out there is listening.. PLEASE make us some decent gauges to replace these dot matrix screens!

I'm pretty sure i read on a thread somewhere that Nick from NVU is working on a conversion to get the HSV gauges (3 Analogue) to fit into the SS-V.

I also read it's a digital signal being sent to those useless bar graphs from the computer so i don't think you can install standard gauges and use the existing wiring.

Well let see, instead of postin about those gauges bein crap,
how bout one of u guys with a VE try and make a kit urself
who knows u might be good enough to start a business u can
get all the advice off all theses V8 loves and brin kits to the
market that u all ready know u can sell. u just got to use abit
of brains and ask wot they want:shiner:
