Hello i have just got my self a 98 VT executive and have found out tonight (the first time drining at night) that the performance of the low beams are crap and you can hardly see a thing and the rain tonight made things even worse, there nothing worse then not being able to see at night in the rain in a car that you don't no much about but thats another story i would just like to know if any one has done a quick mod to the low beams or know of any mods that can be done to them to improve the performance. Thanks in advance
James

Just go and buy some Narva 30% or 50%+ replacement globes from a auto 1, repco, etc. They are about $30-$35 are worth every cent.

Check for good earths going to the headlights

Never had an issue with lights on my VR VS VT VX cars and I worked night shift for 20 years and used the lights ever night, I did blow quite a few globes on the VT though for some reason, probably the use they got. Maybe do as SPANKS suggests and check the earths.

ive never had a problem either, maybe try checking the earth although surely there would be more symptoms if this was the problem? check the battery power also, and if all is good just buy slightly brighter bulbs, not too bright or it may cause problems with heat.

ok thanks guys i'll look into it today if i find some time, also i don't know much about the lights but is it possible that they are pointed down because it seems that they only light up what is directly in front of the car.

Another globe option would be a Phillips BlueVision globe, available at Autobarn stores. Although the globes themselves have a blue colour to them they do in fact give off a bright white light, not necessarily any more distants but just clear and white. I have them myself and they work great. As the other guys have said a +30% or +50% globe do a good job too, just too much of a yellow looking light for my liking..

I just fitted the HID's from Gerald. I dont why it too me so long. Once you have had HID you will never go back to the old globes

A bit agricultural - but I used to use 100w/90w in my VTII - they have glass headlights - VX went to plastic - worked a treat for me.

The Xenon kits that many of us on here have used (from Gerald Mok) will basically fit anything. However, they are supposedly really only for projector style lenses which I don't believe any VS had. I believe that they work on normal reflector lights but because with them the beam is not as well controlled you may dazzle oncoming motorists and have them flashing at you.

Sounds like the lights might need aiming too.

:stupid:
Yep, what he said, I've found that most people who complain about poor lights have then badly aimed.

Check that FIRST. (May need a slight re-aim after fitting new lamps)

well i am going to look into the angle of the lights when i find time but i was just thinking my car is lowered and could that be the problem as the lights may be angled for the standard ride height.

simple way to find out, find a deserted road chuck the lights on at night and play around with the aim should find out pretty quickly if the aim is the problem...
