Well great start to the week. Just got fined $179 for travelling on a T2 lane.
Dont worry I fessed up and admit that I was in the wrong.
The issue I have is the location of the police car along Great Western Hwy (Prospect). Going eastbound the police vehicle was parked beside the exit ramp (shown red on the pic).
Are the police allowed to park here and wouldnt there be some safety issues, especially without any posted safety or warning signs.
On another note yay....finally figured out how to post/host pics :).
Cheers guys

Nearly.
Not sure, but yeah do agree that's not the safest spot for them to be parked.

I have always understood that if they parked in a dangerous position like that they should have their xmas lights on, but in this circumstance they dont so they blend in a bit so you dont see them. There are a few force members on here that might be able to shed some light on this (pardon the pun) :yup:

It was my understanding tht police are excempt from some road rules in an emergency (i think its under the Road Transport Act??).......................IMO this wouldnt be an emergency.
Another thing that annoyed me was being questioned by the police why I didnt stop ASAP. This would have ment that I stop on the T2 lane, during peak hour. What I done was signal left (as soon as I saw his lights) and park on a safe car park out of traffic flow.

Thats pritty stupid of them. You did the right thing in that regard, I don't understand how people just stop when then cops pull them over... You don't just stop on a highway!

As long as the police officer/s are in the lawful execution of their duties, they are normally exempt. Depends on the state as to how much free reign they are given, and this is normally covered in police regulations or orders etc.
I personally wouldn't have parked there, I like going home to my family at the end of the day too much.

I'm with you there!! i Hate it when police pull people over in the stupidest spots which holds up traffic!! Just escort the person to a side street for god sake!!!
You did the right thing mate...
I've seen police parked on the exact same spot on the M5 with a radar!! I agree this is really dangerous but they're police.. i doubt you'll be able to do anything about it.

I recall there being a bit of a whinge and moan in SA (must be about 12-18mths ago now) about police vehicle parking. But this was more to do with vehicles being parked in a no standing zone whilst Officer A & B ran into grab their lunch......big deal I would've thought for such a thing, just one of the perks of the job!
Have always wondered though with some of the speed camera locations they use, the areas which are usually no standing etc. Especially the freeway, you see the speed camera cars pulled up where its a bit tight on space wise on the side of the road up against the metal barriers - quite often right before an exit ramp....don't think I'd want to be pulling up there!!

Quite often the polic will park at my work on our grass area in a 40 zone, they will normally book 30 people in the first hour. However, since the grass area is part of the University our security officers have now warned the police if they continue to park their they will be issued with a parking ticket :)
I have noticed them now parking on the side of the road and they are much easier to see.
I have not been book as I enjoy the 40 zone, I don't really want to hit someone walking across the road who forgot to look. Even though I have been overtaken on the road and I was doing about 45!!!!
Bloody idiots.
Now looking at your photo, the police officer must be a temporary Australian if they keep parking in places like that... I see many tourists here in Tassie and some of them must not have a licence to use their brain let alone use a car :)
Anyway, that my 5 cents work.

Thanks for the smilies Glen made my day a little bit brighter :). Yes I have read that certain passage.
Did the officer take "reasonable care"? IMO NO...............what would have happened if another driver veered towards the officer, remember this busy highway with a posted limit of 80km/h. There were no witches hats, no flashing lights, and definately no warning signs.

I thought police officers were no longer allowed on highways/freeways after the death of an officer who got hit when he was outside his car with a radar gun.

Either 1) NSW police are slow and havent taken/heard of this or 2) they changed Great Western from a Highway into a Street overnight.

The M4 has it on the far right hand side......................
Great western has it on the far left..............People unaware of this i.e. interstate travellers or from other parts of sydney should take care. Keep left unless overtaking in this instance doesnt mean driving on the far left. Im sure this setup is quite common.

Fair question........................
A bit like an ACTer asking what a traffic light looks like :).
Anyway T2 needs to have at least 2 people in the car including driver.
