Kind of...
My wife managed to soak my set...
Key did not originally work (had to unlock the car manually) - however left out to dry for a couple of days and seems to now work fine.

hmmm yea i need the buttons to work, the hsv car alarm thing still goes off if u use the key to manually unlock.

would anyone trust their hsv key in ...say... 10 layers of freezer bags, to keep it dry... while they are swimming at the beach....

???

Personally I would not trust it in the water. the key could still poke through. Maybe keep the spare hidden somewhere accessible in the car and no one can find. Then if it gets wet you can use the key to open the door and then quickly grab the spare and turn off the alarm... or is that just too stupid lol.

cheers,
Michael

We have a number of people through work that have done this. They get a blank VN key cut to take out in the water, and keep the remote one hidden just inside the car somewhere. Yes the alarm will go off, but a quick grab of the proper key fixes that.

They are meant to be water proof I think.
That's why the battery is not changable. Its a long life Lithium battey.

My son destroyed a VS key by spilling his drink (just water) on it. It was at the shopping centre carpark where I had no spare ! :demon:

I thought it may have started working again but it never has.

It's about as water proof as a $20 rolex. ;)

i know someone that forgot it in there pocket at the beach ... an hour or so later, alarm going off a few times and a visit from racv got them outta there ... key had to be pulled apart n dried to get the car started .. so i'd say no :)

The alarm will also stop if you turn your key in the ignition :)

another key cut probably your best option, have drenched 2 keys in past and left them out to dry and all ok.

bad thing though from VT onward the deadlock feature I have found only works by pressing lock on your key twice not turning the keylock the extra quarter turn, at end of the day smashing a window works well for scum.

strange ive put my key through the washing machine a few times in my pocket every time it comes out and works a treat....maybe your keys have tiny leaks in them

So, not only are they waterproof, but it seems water enhanced?

maybe age and degradation of the seals makes them less water resistant?

i put it in about 8 plastic bags and all was fine. i will get just the key part cut in the near future so i can use that instead.

or better yet guys....buy a water proof pouch from a dive store....and no not the the one with the zipper type......its the one that you fold a couple of times then velcro to close it.

i use it on my jetski for putting hsv keys in, wallet and mobile....have jumped in the water when leaving my ski anchored past the breaking waves with it hung around my neck with it deep in the water and not one drop of water!

the pouches are a brand called Akona.
