Hi All,

I am on the market for another LSx vehicle and I have my eye on a 2004 SV8 A4, its done 28454km and the dealer is asking $32k for it.

I checked out Redbook.com.au and :

VZ SV8 Sedan 4dr Auto 4sp 5.7i
Prices based on km 30,000 - 50,000
Trade in price guide* $17,300 - $19,700 (bit rough on the trade-in :demon: )
National average price - private sale* $21,300 - $24,900
Price when new (RRP) $41,990

Has anyone bought a SV8 second hand? If so how much?

I was thinking of talking them down to 27k?

Is that a realistic amount?

thanks guys and gals

hmm, i bought my 03 VY SS for $28500 with 65000 on the clock, $32000 sounds OK considering the relativly low k's but id be looking to neg on that for sure.

PS mine has leather interior and HAD 18's until i went 19's

Thats top dollar (low k's) but top dollar I would think you could get a decent SS for that.

A mate of mine picked up a redhot VYII SS M6 with red leather, roof mounted DVD and strut brace for $32k last week... certified holden used car with balance of factory warranty and 3 year holden warranty on top of that...

For the price theres lots of nice cars around

32K is way too much!! I just sold my 2005 VZ SS with only 12,500km, leather and a few mods for not a heck of a lot more than that.

My 05 model SV8 impulse blue was traded (early this year) at 9 months and 18,000km for $28K

It was then retailed in Brisbane at $33K and sat there for about 3 months before it sold

I notice redbook has recently marked down prices on VYII and VZ by around $1000 taking into account the new year coming up

I would try to get the dealer below $27K now, especially as it is an 04 model, and there was a signifigant update to SV8 in 05 (full body kit, better wheels, hero colours available, rear power windows etc)

The 05 SV8 is getting pretty close to the 04 SS except for the following:
17" rims instead of 18"
front seats arent as bolstered as SS
steering wheel isn't contoured
boot spoiler is smaller SV6 type
no fender vents

05 SS went to leather and climate control standard

Mate i wouldnt walk i would run from that dealer.

Realitically its a buyers market and you would be silly not to take advantage of that.

Ive seen quite a few VZ Calais V8s for well under 30k recently.

Then add some larger rims and brakes and the normal bolt ons it would be a lovely vehicle shoot Markone2 a pm he will point you in the right direction

if i were you i wouldn't bother with an SV8, go the SS for that kinda money.

Maybe wait till next year and you may have more bargaining power as 05 models will be 2 years old instead of 1

good luck either way

Actually the plan is that the mrs will have this car in 12 months or so

then it off to get something even better.

oh and for info my finance consultant is actually my FINANCE CONSULTANT and not the Mrs. :)

As long as she can go shopping (for shoes) on the weekend, she has no probs in me getting this car :)

That is a good deal....

I bought my 05 VZSV8 with leather and 19,000km for $29k 3 months ago in Perth. It was first registered in Feb 06, so it was basically a 6 month old car when purchased. The price included the 20,000km service, 2 1/2 year factory warranty plus another 3 yr 175,000km Holden Cerified warranty.

You should do better than this considering your on the East Coast where everything is cheaper.....

For $32K I wouldn't consider anything less than an 06 model with 6 litre.

Goodluck.

andrewdisco
06-12-2006, 07:04 PM
I think you should buy it because it's easier than having to pile all your money up and then pour petrol on it in order to make it burn :D

Seriously, why would you buy it when you know you are going to lose over a third of it's value straight away ? that's worse than a new car :p

If anything the redbook values are too high for the v8's at the moment...

Redbook said private sale value for the SS Ute VU with an average of 100,000 to 150,000kms was $20,000 to $24,000. I ended up getting one with 58,000 for $22,000. I spoke to a guy that sold his for $16500 that had 100,000 on the clock.

Even Ex Cop VZ SS's are only $22k at auction...

Go private, for that price you could probably get an SS that's still under warranty... why go dealer ?

SCiFiRE
06-12-2006, 07:57 PM
yeah Id be looking private, and for $35k id be looking at SS's aswell, Ive got $29k on my 05 VZ SV8 with leather, and i probably shouldnt say post it for my own sake, but i havent been getting many bites.

I like the bodyshape and the front end :)

Yes that dealer is asking way too much!

FYI - I just bought an 05 SV8 (1st reg Nov 05), auto, 30,000km, leather, Certified ex Holden driven, 2 year factory warranty + 4 year extended for $29k on the tarmac.

Probably could have got a better price, but needed a replacement car, so didnt work the dealer too hard.

In considering the SV8 over the SS, I like the stealth of an SV8, looks like any other company thrasher, but performs the same as SS. The optional leather interior makes the cockpit a nice place to be too.

Good to shop around.

I met a bloke at a car show I did last weekend, he was selling his

06 VZ SS with 7000 kms on it for $33 000. Hardly even run in yet!

He changes his car every year, as he works at Holdens here in SA.

Imagine being able to change your car every year?

Heaven.

Oh and by the way, he's changing it for a WM.

Good to see some people come to their senses, and end up with a Barge.:D

Why not PM Markone2 and get him to source one for you from the auctions. You can bet he will get it FAR cheaper and it will be mechanically checked over as well. Even if you have to throw it on a truck to get to you the $1000's you save will cover it. Either that or you can buy the barge of me :stick:

1. 05 Black 5.7 VZ Calais, A4 5.7 all mod, cons. Options include Country Pack, Holden Assist, Leather Upholstery, Power Sunroof, Sports Suspension.

2. 06 Blue VZ 6.0 SS, A4, options include Holden Assist, Leather Upholstery, Metallic Paint, Parking Distance Control, Power Sunroof.

SS has less K's than the Calais.

Calais, Luxury plus and stealthy (great sleeper option:D )

SS 6.0 motor, sporty :woot:

Your call, which do you like more ?

I've had a couple of calais and I really love them. BUT, I just can't get over the flatish seats in them. I love the wrap around bolstering in the sports models.

The SS with climate is close enough for me to a luxury car :D

Calais suspension is geared more toward comfort than luxury and can roll around a bit more as well.

But it does have a killer stereo system from memory ?

Oh, one other thing. AWFUL depreciation with the calais. They are generally a fleet car and very few Joe public are in the market for them - hence why they can go low 20's at the auctions after just 2 years with low kms on them.

That said however, if you buy one from the auctions it shouldn't be so bad :D

Also don't take the private advertised prices for calais as a indicator for 2nd hand prices.

Fyre, what's your range again?? those vehicles in Syd? As for the drop in value on a 2 yr old Calais, try looking at the values of a Caprice or Statesman, now that is scary!. As for the stereo yes it is a pretty dam fine piece of gear for stock :D.

Gday All,

Just and update,

I recieved a few calls from dealers regarding what I wanted.

There was 2 Black VZ Calais in NSW Both under 15k and Both Asking over 40k for them.

I told them that "my business is yours if you can get the price on the cars down to 35k."

Both said "sorry can't come down less than 38k".

One of the Dealers even said "......contrary to what people believe we don't make much on used cars.."

There was won VZ SS Black 6.0 I was very keen on it, Priced at 41k...but again he could meet my asking price.

So I am still looking.......... I don't mind the vesper blue colour.... there are a couple of 05 SS's and 05 Calais in Drive and Car Sales.... gonna Check them out hopefully on Saturday.

Being close to the very "Silly Season" I guess there won't be very much additions on the Car web Sales sites....

Looking at both options mate.

There's good and bad on both sides of the fence. At the end of the day I don't really care where i get it from as longs as it's price well and I like it.

I got a phone call today from a Dealer, He has an 06 6.0 SS A4 with approx 26000k's on the clock asking around 36k. Melb

It will be in his yard early Jan 07.

I am also Looking at 2 Black Calais tommorow VZ 05 Build's. (Dealers)

Ones asking $38750 with 20k km's on the clock (told me i can have it for $36950 on the phone).

The other one has done 36k km asking for $37750 neg.

My question: Is $36k ish a good price for and 06 VZ SS 6.0 A4 Black with Charcoal Leather?

I WANT the SS but I need to consider the other costs such as Stamp Duty, Rego transfer etc.... so It may come to approx $38k for me. Plus I have to Drive it back to Sydney.

Any Advise is greatly appreciated.
