I don't get the reasons for Toyota bashing on this forum by some members.

Obviously another VE owner who likes to see others are also familiar with the recall process

Recalls are a GOOD thing. It means the manufacturers are being proactive and fixing things as they find them, not sweeping the issue under the carpets..\

Exactly.

Toyotas have always been a reliable car, I have no reason to bag them.

As long as humans put cars together, there will be recalls/campaigns - they are a fact of life, even with top-end cars.

From memory two.....................and the money spent was just over a billion dollars to create the VE cars and the zeta platform.

How many years and how much development has toyota had with the rav 4 and how many billions have they spent?....................they still cant get it right, so much for the toyota reliability and quality myth.

I think you'll find on a world scale, a billion dollars to design a car these days is a starting point !!!

A faulty engine warning light is hardly a break down, so I'd hardly say it is a reliability issue. If I recall correctly, the VS Acclaim my parents bought new in 1995 had exactly the same fault. Took 3 attempts over a period of six weeks to fix as well. There are heaps dodgier things with more prestige brands that require a recall.

Jeezzz, it's only a check engine light. What's the big deal, a small problem and poeple start bagging them over it. I wonder how many other manufactures would recall over a small glitch like that. My missus had a 01 rav 4 and apart from being gutless and heavy on the juice it was a very reliable car.
At least it was only a check light and not brakes failing etc...

True, but then your typical Toyota driver wouldn't either notice the light or know what it meant anyway :hide:

Toyota recalls about 54,000 passenger cars because of engine problems
TOKYO: Toyota Motor Corp. has recalled about 54,000 passenger cars because of engine problems that led to at least two fires in cars left parked with their engines running, Japan's Transport Ministry said Thursday…………..

Subject to recall are 54,217 vehicles in two models, including the Harrier (Lexus RX300) sport utility vehicle and Windom sedan. The vehicles have a defect that can cause the engine's computer control system to malfunction and possibly catch fire, Transport Ministry official Yasuyoshi Nakamura said…………….

There were two cases of fires in Japan, both in cars that had been left parked with their engines running. No injuries were reported, Nakamura said. A total of 26 complaints have been filed about the vehicles in Japan between 2003 and September 2006……….

Toyota has said the problem was caused by faulty wiring in the sensor that monitors the engine's internal combustion as well as a computer program glitch, Nakamura said…………………..

Ok this thread is pointless and its just going to turn into a Toyota Bashing Thread. Its a recall, wooop de doo, its good to see car makers being proactive. No reason to start a bashing thread over it
