Hey guys,

In the local rag (southside news) I saw a beat up about Holden abandoning the Sivyer Holden dealership in Brisbane...Had a thing about how it was Holden costing dealers their jobs!

This sounds a bit sus to me - aren't dealerships totally separate to Holden? The article said Sivyer had the 3rd higest sales in QLD.

Which would make it sound like they were doing something quite dodgy for Holden to stop supplying them with vehicles?

Anybody got ideas as to why they have done this?

There were some rumours not so long ago they had $$$ probs, but they were allowed to trade out of trouble - I also heard they had a couple of headaches with employees taking them to court with personal issues.

They close Dec 30th - I've been told Wooloongabba and Mt Gravatt are doing the Toyota jump with happiness :dancenana:

You know there are other mechanical workshops that are more than capable of servicing your Holden than a Dealer.

Pick up the phone book or ask around for a reputable mechanic.

i have to get it done at zupps/holden for warranty . otherwise i would :( and those guys at mt gravatt are just up the road :)

i have a mechanic who i have used for years and would trust him with anything, but even he said to service it at holden just incase anything goes wrong.

Small correction motionSS. You have to get your WARRANTY work done there, you dont need to go there to keep your warranty. There is a BIG differance.

Holden cannot reject a warranty claim because it wasnt serviced through Holden service centre! So long as the mechanic doing the work is licenced.

I have never had any of my holdens servced by the dealer and never had an issue with warranty.

My suggestion is that unless its under some pre-paid service plan, take it to someone you trust. Any licenced motor mechanic.

That's a bugger. Not something you would ever think you'd have to think about is it?

The only thing I guess you could do is contact the Service Manager and see what he says. He should have been advised by higher management of the correct information to offer their customers. They'll probably tell you to take it to one of the other Zupps dealers.

Is it a Harrier warranty?

SS :)

I'd talk to Sivyer management about who's upholding their Network Q/Harrier warranties - failing that, I'd ring Harrier themselves.

Zupps at Mt Gravatt are ok - ask for Dev (2IC) or Jason (HSV advisor).

Yeh when I was having gearbox issues a month or so ago, I went to book back in with Sivyer (where I bought it). The guy wanted to help and was very disappointed and appologetic but he had been told "that day" to under no circumstances take any more mechanical bookings.

Zupps were too busy and coludn't get me in for a week, so I went to Armstrong at Woolloongabba and was amazed how they assessed the potential and got me in the next day and provided exceptional and personalised customer service with followup (warranty work). Since that time all has been good!! I take it back to Armstrong in about 500k for its 3000.

"Maybe" thats why I got such a good deal on the Calais V at Sivyer Holden - trying to trade out of trouble (but who knows). I was happy though.

i was told that i HAVE to get the services done at zupps or holden to retain my warranty .... i dont want to do that, but i know that the day i get the car serviced elsewhere something will go wrong and the warranty will be void.

oh and i dont know what company provieds the warranty, ill have to chase that up.

Yeah talking to the head mech the other day, Holden withdrew their dealership license and 90 people out of a job. He said there was talk about Motorama taking it over.
Forgot to ask the reason, but heard a while ago that they were told by Holden to put in a new showroom, to meet standards, but they didn't, and Holden took theor dealership licence

Ring the Automobile Chamber of Commerce. They'll tell you exactly what Voodoo and I have both told you.

MotionSS Did you buy your car new or used?

Some after market Warranties require you to service with the selling dealer for a couple reasons... You should have a Zupps extended warranty booklet in your glove box .. read the conditions in that.

I work for Zupps so if you get stuck PM me and I will look into it for you...

Anyone who issues an aftermarket warranty could surely put any conditions they like on it...

Factory warranty is a whole other ball park... as Voodoo said you can service anywhere and get the dealer to do the warranty work

A couple years ago dealers in Brisbane offered a Free 6year warranty with all new cars... First three years Factory second three years aftermarket, this was free to keep the servicing in house ... this was a win win, win for the customer with 6years of warranty ... win for the dealer retaining service customers.

Please note the second three years had completly different conditions to the first ...

If you bought a commodore via Sivyers over the past few years and wanted some mods done I was the one who did it.I heard that holden refused to renew thier franchise due to internal problems,ALEGEDLY.John Sivyer is now in his Eighties and was in the yard a few weeks ago totally devistated,ALEGEDLY.
It doesnt pay to have kids run your life long dream if they dont give a shit,ALEGEDLY.
Aparently the realestate is worth a fortune,ALEGEDLY,say no more.

From what I understand with my earlier posts, you are pretty much on the mark.

Same happened to an old well-known and sorely missed Holden dealer in the inner north west of Brisbane that had a very loyal older clientele...I keep saying...it's employees and customers - not managers and dollars - that keep dealerships running profitably. As long as they ignore this, the people in this forum and the general public will have no respect for them.

I do work for a dealer but I don't pretend to be an expert...

Having said that I imagine that your clutch would not be covered by warranty as no wear & tear items are... Someone feel free to tell me I'm wrong but I do think I'm spot on.

Glad to hear that the car is perfect thus far... Zupps normally wouldn't retail a car if it wasn't perfect... all though cars will always slip through the gaps

Hey Brad, not being disrespectful or taking the seriousness out of your post but I'm just curious - is John Zupp still alive - he was old when I was young. I am now old enough, as I am sure some others are to remember the jingle "Any old iron, any old iron. Any, any old iron, bring it in, trade it in, you'll leave with a grin, just come and see John Zupp at John Zupps" It was my intro to Brisbane when I emigrated from NSW many years ago.

I guessed it would be something like this. I thought it was a bit unfair the newspaper was trying to paint some big 'Holden destroys dealers livelihoods' picture. What do you expect from a newspaper though.

Yep, I bought a car recently from Zupps, balance of factory warranty and then 3 year/100,000 used car warranty. I was told that it must be serviced at zupps to retain the warranty...getting sick of paying top $$ for servicing when I can take it to my local and trusted licenced mechanic.

As indicated in other posts, I didn't think they could do that. Your Warranty is certainly good but geese you would be paying through the nose for servicing and parts. My neighbour does this and some of the costs on his Sahara landcruiser are horrendous.
