My cuzin's mate knew a bloke who fitted 24 inch rims in his VX Berlina no probs after he rolled his guards. They looked real sick mate and then we went to McDonalds carpark and hung out. They look great cos he spray painted his brakes red without hardly getting any red paint on the brake discs.

He's gettin' a VZ HSV bodykit on it this week and a 4 inch exhaust tip. Should look mad.

I dont understand why everyone thinks this, I just brough a set of 4 22inch Hankcook tyres 285/35/22 for $330 per tyre. Is that really THAT much considering the profile. Me dont think so, a decent set of 19's will cost you close to that much.

I was only perusing a VU S spac ute with a set of 22's on it last weekend.
With a set of coilovers on the front, some serious guard rolling/cutting and some 245 section tyres. They fitted.

Looked like absolute SHIT because they were so big, but they fitted.

if you can get hold of a 22x8 or 8.5 wheel you might stand a chance, then again you will need a 235-30-22 tyre.(hard to find)

verde alloys makes 3 designs in 22x8.5

http://superbuytires.com/Verde/Madonna/
http://superbuytires.com/Verde/Helix/
http://superbuytires.com/Verde/Dimension/

theres also the gestalt virouge gv-2
http://www.paylesstyres.com/products_closeup.asp?part=22%27+WHEELS&part_no=189

you will need coil overs on the front and your rear guards will have to be flared out

keep in mind that a 22 inch tyre doesnt have the correct load index or OD needed to be legal.

i personally wouldnt recommend it, but it can be done with a little persistance.

price wise, dont expect to pay anything under $4000 -$4500 for the wheels and tyres only.

hope ive helped,
jeff

p.s it would look much better slammed on 20's

285-35-22 is one of the more common sizes in 22 inch,

for a vx you will need 235-30-22, $500 plus depending on brand, and thats if you can find any.

last thing you'd want is to puncture a tyre and have to wait 3 months for a new one

you'd need to lip your guards or roll em 4 sure and maybe a 3 profile tyre wouldnt it need spacers though?

Not sure if this is relevant to the original poster but there's a mean looking VY ute on 20s and 22s on another forum (http://forum.streetcommodores.com.au/showthread.php?t=8489244) (airbags)

like most have said, why bother? a nice set of 20s and slammed does the trick.

Seen a couple of XR BAs with 22s, and i must say it looks out of place. I dare say the commodore would look out of place too.

$330 for 22s doesn't seem right? then again, i haven't shopped around for them. But i know from pricing 19s that for an average tyre you're up for $300+ per tyre. Cheap tyres around $250... and decent stuff anywhere from $500-800. So i can only imagine the quality of a $330 22 inch tyre :hmmm:

perhaps payless tyres might be able to help us out a little more with the pricing vs quality thing??

I know there's already a dedicated tyre thread, so perhaps a best bang for buck quality vs price comparison from them could be helpful?

$330 a tyre is a damn good price I know because I hunted hard for that price.
Hankooks arnt the best tyre out, but certainly not the worst, the previous set of tyres i had were pirelli's which are considered high end tyres, at $640each for a 305 width tyre they where expensive. Great tyre in wet and dry, nice feel, and I felt they improved breaking in wet where ABS would normally kick in it wouldnt which is great. But there is always one they had the worst lifespan EVER, I pushed to get 16000KM out of the set before they where just above the wear limit bars. Thus the change of brand for me, if these hankooks give me the same KM's and a little less performance them Im happy.

i wouldnt think its that silly

Heres a pic of a VX Berlina wagon which has been transformed into a VZ HSV Avalanche and the rims are 22 x 9s front and 22 x 10s on the back .. to me its gets the nod of approval i think more so because they arnt chrome.

You will enjoy them more then 22". Now all you need is some big brakes to feel them in a little.

Quite right, if your going this size rim, then you need a nice set of discs to back them up. Even if you just get oversized discs and have someone like harrop slot them. They look good if your one a budget

You'd need a 400mm+ plus rotor behind a set of 22's. Anything less would look dwarfed.

Yeah go to Repco and ask them for some big discs.

Actually you'd probably be better off getting those fake disk rotors that come slotted and cross drilled. Just bolt em on behind the wheel. They'd suit 22" wheels perfectly!!

Honestly not sure, you may be able to get bigger discs off a clubby if they fit up to your car. I have stock size discs but they are quite large at 380mm all round. When I was due for new discs I just picked up a set and took them to Ken at Harrop and had him cross hatch/slot them. Fitted them up look a treat. While everything was apart, I just got some high temp matt black paint and some wet/dry sand paper sanded down the inside hub of the discs and brake rotors and sprayed them black.

Another option and certainly cheaper is to get your existing discs slotted.

Also Im sure there are aftermarket upgrade brake packages avaliable, try a search I remember reading about this stuff a while back
PBR upgraded kit rings a bell Harrop are the best in the business though and their price reflects.

Timmy you sure you mean 380mm?
290mm is standard size for front of VT- VY commodore.

maybe im just really young compaired to some of you boys but i have 22s on my vt gts and i have cops / people all the time stoping me to check them out and they love them i have not had 1 person come upto me in person and say "there shit or there to big" best $6k i have spent on the out side of the car.

as for brakes i had the 343mm hsv/harrop brakes they where a little small but i had to sell them either way as i converted my car to AWD and the old brakes didnt fit so now have ordered some Alcon 6 pistons.

Had 20s on the wagonwith stock fe2, wankers told me it wouldnt need rolled if I didnt lower it, they were right, if I drove with noone else in the car. 1 passenger and it scrubbed over bumps and corners. I cracked it and went back, they lipped the guards and it helped but with 4 in the car it still scraped, even touching the spoiler at the back. I ended up buyin 19inch gts wheels, holden or holden copies have the correct offset. I dont like the rolling machine, it can pull the guard outward. To lip it they were just using a hammer with a weight on the other side of the guard.( Technology from caveman times, but it worked, small cracks in the paint underneath even with heat gun)
There are some mean looking cars out there dumped with 20s and bigger but personally I dont want to sacrafice the ride for looks. Can any of the cars with 20s and bigger drive normally?( Not having a go, just curious) Everytime I see anything other than a ute with big rims they slow to an idle around corners.I love the look of em dumped but cant be stuffed with the hassles. Even with no passengers, sedans and wagons have IRS kicking it in the guts could make it scrape too couldnt it? My wagon has stock fe2 and came with 18s, now its got 19s so its ever so slightly higher but I still have to be careful on driveways and kerbs etc.

Nice, can you drive normally with a few in the car?
