Hi Guys,
Are any of you are a member of the HSV Owners Club? My mate is interested in joining and asked me to join as well.
Just wanted to know if any of you think (who currently are or WAS an existing member) it's worth the yearly membership fee (around $100 I think)? Do the benefits outweigh the cost of membership, or is it just the prestigiousness of being part of the club?
Cheers.

I joined the NSW HSVOC back when i had my GTS, went along to a few meetings. Apart from them being CAMS affiliated, and a few minor perks like being invited to be involved in the drivers parade at Bathurst, there was not that much else. They did a few good Show & Shines, however they seem to be more about talking about their cars than driving them

I am a current Qld member, i go to some of the shows,i especially attend the V8 Supercars meet at Willowbank, we get to drive our vehicles into the race track grounds.
I also went to a historical race day, and got to drive on the track in the Grand Parade that was a buzz.
I guess its what you want to get out of it, the $70.00 its a cheap expense to make new friends and show off your beloved HSV.
Cheers

It depends on the type of person you are. I'm a member and go out on Driver training days on the skidpans at EC for little bucks, Oran Park Competition skills training, we have drag days at WSID (Once a year only) Sunday drives, Show and Shines, and week ends away at some nice locations. At the monthly meetings we generally have guest speakers from places like Armour All, DBA Castrol and last year has Skaife and T Kelly at a club meet.
What you find is that there is a core group who particpate in many activities and then you have the whingers who don't realise what going on or are too apathetic to participate and just complain about things.
If RYZZ was a member of our club he certainly didn't take time to find out about the driving part of the club because there is a strong motor racing/track work element within the club.:burnout:

That and the lack of support i got from the HSV Car club in spreading the word about the theft of my car when it was stolen.
Maybe we i can afford a new HSV i can discover this hidden motorsport section

Sorry to hear about the car been stolen!!
Just out of interest a lot of the regular Motorsport guys just do up a VK or VH and race that - the HSV's are not insured running around a track so it's a lot of money being put at risk by those who do run their everyday car.

You dont remember it getting stolen, this time last year?? Thread Here (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=47488&highlight=GTS+Stolen). When it was stolen i email the Club President and asked him to send a message out about it. I send the email 3 times and never got a response but saw lots of emails from him about cars for sale, etc.

The HSV clubs motorsport program is far from hidden. Its is very comprehensive. It has a multitude of
supersprints also linking to other clubs
Skid pan days
driver training days for young people such as p platers
Race training days with competent instructors
All this is done as part of the minimal fee of memberships. There days are generally alot cheaper than any private days that are run and are a great way of learning car control. There are always a couple of maniacs out there on track days, but they always group us maniacs together:burnout:
One of the best things is they have a lot of contacts with other clubs, therefore they get plenty of info when other track days are on and email it out to the members so there is always plenty of motorsport events with or without the club. I admit I am not hugely active with meeting etc but love the info from the motorsport section. They also do some great same day and weekend cruises as well as family stuff
BTW Ryan. When your car was stolen it got around the club very quickly. I heard it on LS1.com but I heard it also through other HSV club members. Most of the guys in the club are real enthusiasts. Most are more anal with their cars than you are, which is saying something. They are proud of the HSV logo and what it represents.

I'm a current member of the Vic HSV club (been secretary for the past year) and have been a member for over 6 years. At the end of the day you only get out of the club what you put in.
HSVOC of Vic is $100 and if you don't get along to events its a bit high for a month magazine but if you do come along to events you have the option to participate in:
- motor sprint days (Sandown, Winton and Phillip Island_
- show and shine events (all holden day, historics, Sandown and Phillip Island tour car round - usually free entry and HSV Nationals)
- social events - dinners, mystery drives and weekends away)
- events - skid pan days, airport runs and hill climbs
- presenattions from current and past drivers (Skaife and R Kelly in the past year)
- loads of information and contacts (very helpful when modifying / motor sport etc)
- friendship of like minded people.
So if you don't want to USE your HSV in a safe environment with fellow like minded people it might not be for you but if you do have a desire to show your baby off or punt it around the curcuit with other like minded owners its great fun

Thanks guys for all that info. Has given me quite a bit to think about. Guess you're all right though - at the end of the day you only get out of the club what you put in.
Am not sure how 'active' I'd be in all those events, however there were a few items you listed Big Wig that sounded pretty appealing.
So... I've come to the conclusion that I'll sign up for a year and test it all out. If I find that I'm not getting involved enough then I'll cancel going forward. So for $100, it seems it's worth having the membership simply to be presented with all those opportunities. Cheers once again.

Hey Stu, I'm contemplating joining the HSVOC of Victoria next year, and was wondering if you knew much about their track day policies? I own a HSV, but I do sprint days in my 180sx. Is it fine for me to run this car at your sprint days even though it's not a HSV/Holden??
Cheers

That'll be fine Dane provided you have the HSV to qualify for membership you can run whatever car you want on the sprint day.

Do it...
A great bunch of people in the club.
Not everyone gets involved in every event, only what interests them, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Motorsport events are very well organised if that's your cup of tea.
P.S. membership is $90 after first year.
Might be indicative why the Club President was voted out last month...Wow, hopefully it will be better now.
Yeah you can buy those type of race cars ready to go from about 5Kto 9KThx, will add to my every going "want to have" shopping list!!!

Was a member for a year or 2. went on 1 mystery cruise. Which turned out to be a "keep up if you can, & by the way we arent telling u where we are going " Just dont have time to get out to enjoy the membership. Hence why i have been on here so long & still havnt got off my arse to get validated. Too many hobbies too many toys , not enough hours in the day.

I'm a life member of the HSVOC (Vic)-been a member for 20 years. Like all clubs, we have our ups & downs, but overall it's a sensational club, through which I've learnt a lot about the various cars I've owned, but more importantly, I've met some excellent people, & made some lifelong friends. The Victorian Club meets at Tom's Cafe in the HSV complex, where some members have a meal before the meeting, & where we are provided with complimentary supper afterwards.
As others have said, you get out of any club what you put in.-If you make an effort to talk to people, & get involved, you'll have a great time.
Our club has a very strong motor sport contingent, including forum member "HSV105", & attending club motor sport meetings gives one the opportunity to get "up close & personal" with some of his "weapons", & lots of other interesting cars.
Monthly meetings, HSV factory tours, club runs, motorsport events, social nights, Go Kart events, guest speakers -(P.B.,Lowndes,Skaife,Rick Kelly,John Harvey, Allan Moffat, Norm Beechey Harry Firth etc etc have all been our guests) are just some of the things we do!. And, as I've said, we do, I think, 6 motorsport events a year.
It's a great club-if you join, & you don't get your money's worth, it certainly won't be the club's fault!
PM me if you want any more info.
Cheers, Pickles.

Dave, join up and enjoy, i've been a member for the last 2 years and hopefully renewing my mebership in the coming weeks. The first year i was fairly active in the display days and attending the monthly meetings etc. This year however i've been unable to attend most events and spectating at the motorsport day due to the house, and i've certainly missed not attending.
Even if you can't attend the meetings there's still a lot on offer through out the year to more than satisfy your interests. But as Pickles and big wig have said the more you put in the more you get out of it. You can't get better value for $100.
Call me later, i still haven't seen your car yet.
Forgot to mention, your more than welcome to attend a meeting and see what you think, i went a along to a couple of monthly meetings before i joined to see what its like.
